Abstract

We present a theoretical treatment for the repeatedly dressed FWM processes in N5B five-level atomic system. Based on our previous work, the evolution of Autler-Townes splitting in a multi-dressed FWM spectrum is expounded using the characteristic method of Independence effect. Under condition that the coupling and probe fields which induced the FWM are strong, we further demonstrate the suppression and enhancement of FWM signal intensity. The results indicate that one cpupling field can dresse the atom twice and produce the donbly dressed state and triply dressed states. Many applications of multi-dressed FWM spectrum can benefit from the investigation on the atomic energy level and the nonlinear processes of mutiwave mixing(MWM).

Observation of dressed odd-order multi-wave mixing in five-level atomic medium

Ning Li, Zhengyang Zhao, Haixia Chen +6 more

By selectively blocking specific laser beams, we investigate coexisting seven distinguishable dressed odd-order multi-wave mixing (MWM) signals in a K-type five-level atomic system. We demonstrate that the enhancement and suppression of dressed four-wave mixing (FWM) signal can be directly detected by scanning the dressing field instead of the probe field. We also study the temporal and spatial interference between two FWM signals. Surprisingly, the pure-suppression of six-wave mixing signal has been shifted far away from resonance by atomic velocity component. Moreover, the interactions among six MWM signals have been studied.

Enhancement and suppression of spatial splitting four-wave mixing in atomic medium

Yuming Zhuang, Suling Sang, Peiying Li +6 more

We experimentally report on the evolution from singly-dressed to doubly-dressed four-wave mixing (FWM) process by controlling the powers of the probe, the pump and the dressing fields respectively. The differences in the enhancement and the suppression of FWM signal between the two-level and cascade three-level atomic systems are observed and explained by the multi-dressed effect theoretically. Both the x direction and the y direction spatial splittings of the degenerate-FWM (DWFM) beams are obtained. We also investigate the switch between the enhancement and the suppression of the DWFM signals and between its spatial splittings in x direction and y direction. The spatial splittings in x direction and y direction can be controlled by the relative position and the intensity of the involved laser beams. Such a study can be useful for optimizing the efficiency of the FWM process and providing potential applications in spatial signal processing.

Coherent control of dressing interaction of sequential-doubly-dressed four-wave mixing

Ma Xiaoyu, Sang Suling

Abstract We investigate the coherent control of dressing interaction in four-wave mixing (FWM) in a Y-type four-level atomic system based on the dressed states theory. We study the density matrix equation acted by two dressing fields simultaneously governing FWM signal intensity and the eigenvalues under the dressed state formalism. It is shown that the peak position and intensity of Autler–Townes splitting both originate from the dressing interaction as the detuning of the probe field is scanned. Moreover, it is observed that the interaction could be controlled by the dressing fields. Such flexibly controlled nonlinear signal has potential applications in optical communication and quantum information processing.

Interplay among multidressed four-wave mixing processes

Huaibin Zheng, Yanpeng Zhang, Zhiqiang Nie +4 more

We report our experimental studies of interplays between four-wave mixing (FWM) processes in multidressed two- and three-level atomic systems. The Autler–Townes splitting of the FWM signal within the electromagnetically induced transparency window has been experimentally observed. Under the same experimental conditions in different energy-level systems, the dressing effects strongly depend on the dipole moments of the transitions, which can provide an easy and qualitative way to determine the orders of magnitude of the effective dipole moments for different transitions by comparing the FWM suppressing effects.

Observation of Autler-Townes splitting in six-wave mixing

Yanpeng Zhang, Peiying Li, Huaibin Zheng +5 more

We report an observation of the self- and external-dressed Autler-Townes (AT) splitting in six-wave mixing (SWM) within an electromagnetically induce transparency window, which demonstrates the interaction between two coexisting SWM processes. The multi-dressed states induced by the nested interactions between many dressing fields and the five-level atomic system lead to the primary, secondary and triple AT splittings in the experiment. Such controlled multi-channel splitting of nonlinear optical signals can be used in a range of applications, e.g. the wavelength-demultiplexer in optical communication and quantum information processing.

Intensity dependence suppression and enhancement of four-wave mixing in a micrometric thin vapour

Ying Li, Luozhen Li, Yi Zhang

We theoretically investigate dressed-four-wave mixing (dressed-FWM) spectroscopy of rubidium atoms in a micrometric thin vapour. It is found that Dike-narrowing type Autler–Townes (AT) spectroscopy with high resolution can be achieved in a reverse Y-type four-level atomic system due to the phase-conjugated configuration of laser beams and the transient effects of atom–wall collision in the thin vapour. We also show that controllable suppression and enhancement of the dressed-FWM signal due to the evolution of atomic coherence can be obtained by selecting different coupling field intensities at the proper detuning of the probe and the coupling fields. This control of FWM processes can be interpreted by dressed state analysis and probably used in the design of optical switch and the enhancement of FWM processes for frequency conversion.
