Abstract

By selectively blocking specific laser beams, we investigate coexisting seven distinguishable dressed odd-order multi-wave mixing (MWM) signals in a K-type five-level atomic system. We demonstrate that the enhancement and suppression of dressed four-wave mixing (FWM) signal can be directly detected by scanning the dressing field instead of the probe field. We also study the temporal and spatial interference between two FWM signals. Surprisingly, the pure-suppression of six-wave mixing signal has been shifted far away from resonance by atomic velocity component. Moreover, the interactions among six MWM signals have been studied.

Seven Odd-Order Multi-Wave Mixing Spectra in a Five-Level Atomic System

In a K-type five-level atomic system, seven odd-order multi-wave mixing (MWM) processes are considered. We can distinguish the MWM signals by selectively blocking different laser beams and changing frequency detuning. We study the interaction in seven odd-order MWM processes in a five-level atomic system and demonstrate the existence of mutual suppression of seven odd-order MWM processes by setting dual electromagnetically induced transparency windows as separated or merged.

Enhancement and suppression of spatial splitting four-wave mixing in atomic medium

Yuming Zhuang, Suling Sang, Peiying Li +6 more

We experimentally report on the evolution from singly-dressed to doubly-dressed four-wave mixing (FWM) process by controlling the powers of the probe, the pump and the dressing fields respectively. The differences in the enhancement and the suppression of FWM signal between the two-level and cascade three-level atomic systems are observed and explained by the multi-dressed effect theoretically. Both the x direction and the y direction spatial splittings of the degenerate-FWM (DWFM) beams are obtained. We also investigate the switch between the enhancement and the suppression of the DWFM signals and between its spatial splittings in x direction and y direction. The spatial splittings in x direction and y direction can be controlled by the relative position and the intensity of the involved laser beams. Such a study can be useful for optimizing the efficiency of the FWM process and providing potential applications in spatial signal processing.

Dual-dressed four-wave mixing and dressed six-wave mixing in a five-level atomic system

We study the co-existing four-wave mixing (FWM) process with two dressing fields and the six-wave mixing (SWM) process with one dressing field in a five-level system with carefully arranged laser beams. We also show two kinds of doubly dressing mechanisms in the FWM process.FWM and SWM signals propagating along the same direction compete with each other. With the properly controlled dressing fields, the FWM signals can be suppressed, while the SWM signals have been enhanced.

Co-existence of multi-wave mixing in an opening five-level atomic system

Shen Lei-Jian, Yigang Du, Chuangshe Li +6 more

We study the co-existence of multi-wave mixing processes in an open five-level atomic system affected by strong coupling fields. Competition among four-wave mixing (FWM) with two dressing fields, the six-wave mixing (SWM) with one dressing field as well as the eight-wave mixing (EWM) propagating along the same direction can be evoked by adjusting laser beams because these multi-wave mixing signals are induced by atomic coherence between common levels. With the dressing fields properly controlled, the FWM and SWM signals can be suppressed while the EWM signals enhanced in the beam. We also amply analyze the difference between the parallel-cascade and sequentical-cascade doubly dressing mechanisms in doubly-dressed four-wave mixing (DDFWM) processes.

Multidressing interaction of four-wave mixing image in three-level atomic system

Suling Sang, Huaibin Zheng, Zhiguo Wang +5 more

We demonstrate different dressed processes of four-wave mixing (FWM), as changing the powers of the probe, pump, and dressing fields, respectively, in ladder-type three-level system. It is demonstrated that scanning detuning of the dressing field can lead to the direct detection of the dressing effects and the interaction between the dressing fields, compared with scanning that of the probe field. Moreover, by respectively controlling the powers of the dressing, pump, and probe fields, the enhancement and suppression of FWM signals can be switched sensitively. Meanwhile, the spatial splitting in y direction of FWM signal due to the cross-phase modulation and electromagnetically induced gratings is observed, respectively. Such nonlinear signal with switchable enhancement has potential applications in optical switching, optical communication, and quantum information processing.

Interplay of Coexisting Odd-Order Wave Mixings in a Five-Level Atomic System

Yue Li Song, Shu-Li Huo, Peiying Li +3 more

We experimentally investigate the interplay between two coexisting six-wave mixing (SWM) signals and the interference between coexisting four-wave mixing (FWM) and SWM signals in a five-level atomic system of 85 Rb. When two electromagnetically induced transparency windows gradually overlap in frequency, the competition between these two SWM signals arises. Moreover, we report the experimental result which shows that the temporal interference with femtosecond time scales between FWM and SWM signals.
