Abstract

Különböző sokrészecskés rendszerek (kvantum spinláncok, létrák és réteges rendszerek; klasszikusspinrendszerek és sztochasztikus folyamatok, stb.) kooperatív viselkedését vizsgáltuk rendezetlenségjelenlétében. Speciális renormálási csoport eljárást használva megállapítottuk, hogy számos vizsgáltproblémánánál a rendezetlenségi fluktuációk domináns szerepet játszanak a determinisztikus (termikus, kvantum, sztochasztikus) fluktuációkkal szemben. A kvantum spinláncoknál ismert végtelenül rendezetlenés erősen rendezetlen fixpont fogalmát kiterjesztettük klasszikus rendszerekre és sztochasztikusfolyamatokra is. Több egydimenziós probléma esetén (rendezetlen kvantum Ising modell, rendezetlen kontakt folyamat, rendezetlen aszimmetrikus kizárási folyamat, stb.) aszinguláris tulajdonságokat aszimptotikusan egzaktul meghatároztuk, mind a kritikus pontban, mind azon kívül az un. Griffiths fázisban. Vizsgáltuk a rendezetlenség erősségénekváltozásakor tapasztalható átmeneteket is. | We have studied the cooperative behaviour of different manyparticle systems (quantum spin chains, laddersand layered systems; classical spin systems and stochastic processes, etc.) in the presence of quencheddisorder. Using a special renormalization group procedure we have found that for several studied problemsthe disorder fluctuations play a dominant role over deterministic (thermal, quantum or stochastic) fluctuations. The concept of infinite disorder and strong disorder fixed points, known for random quantum spin chains hasbeen extended to classical systems and stochastic processes, too. For several one-dimensional problems(random quantum Ising model, random contact process, random asymmetric exclusion process, etc.) thesingular properties are asymptotically exactly determined, both at the critical point and outside thecritical point, in the so called Griffiths phase. We have also studied the cross-overs by varying thestrength of the disorder.

A pályázat keretében nagy szabadsági fokú fizikai rendszerek kooperatív viselkedését vizsgáltuk rendezetlenség jelenlétében. | Within the project the cooperative behavior of physical systems with large degree of freedom is studied in the presence of disorder. We have determined the properties of singularities (phase transitions, Griffiths effects) and studied both equilibrium and nonequilibrium processes. For disordered quantum systems we have continued our studies on the use of the strong disorder renormalization group method to obtain the phase diagram and low energy excitations of different one- and two-dimensional systems. We have also obtained new results about entanglement of quantum systems and the related von Neumann entropy. For nonequilibrium systems we have studied ageing during nonequilibrium critical relaxation, as well as driven lattice gas systems in the presence of disorder. Finally, in the third field of disorder dominated classical systems we have studied phase transitions and the related geometrical problems of clusters. Our results obtained during this project have been published in 29 papers in international journals and for these we have already obtained more than 130 citations. During the project 1 PhD dissertation has been succesfully defended and two others are submitted for defence.

Kvantumos fázisátalakulások alacsony dimenziós mágneses és fermionrendszerekben = Quantum phase transitions in low-dimensional magnetic and fermionic systems

Jenő Sólyom, Gergely Barcza, K. Buchta +4 more

A magas spinű rendszerekben újfajta, egzotikus szuperfolyékony fázisok megjelenésére mutattunk rá mágnesesen polarizáció jelenlétében, és javaslatot tettünk annak kísérleti megfigyelhetőségére ultrahideg atomok rendszerében. A vezetési elektronok közötti korrelációkat is tartalmazó periodikus Anderson-Hubbard-modell esetén a Hubbard-fizika (Mott-átalakulás) és a Kondo-fizika (nehézfermionos viselkedés) versengésében határoztuk meg a kölcsönhatások szerepét. A Bethe-feltevéssel egzaktul megoldható rendszerekre analitikusan levezettük a szabadenergiához adódó vezető korrekciókat. | The physics of low-dimensional magnetic and fermionic systems is in the forefront of research in solid state physics. During the course of this project, we studied the physical properties of such systems both analytically and numerically, investing a lot of effort in the algorithmic development of the density-matrix renormalization-group (DMRG) method, using the concepts of quantum information theory. This allowed us, by combining DMRG with Wilson's numerical RG procedure, to extend the method to impurity problems. Following our research plan, we determined the phase diagram of various models, such as spin ladders, generalized Hubbard models and SU(n) symmetric models, and studied the quantum phase transitions in these systems. We have pointed out the possibility of exotic superfluid phases in magnetically polarized high-spin systems, and proposed experiments for their observation in ultracold atomic gases. We have studied the competition of Hubbard physics (Mott transition) and Kondo physics (heavy-fermion behavior) in extended periodic Anderson-Hubbard models, where correlations between conduction electrons and the interaction between conduction and localized electrons are taken into account. We have also determined the leading corrections to the free energy of exactly integrable systems.

Erősen korrelált alacsony dimenziós rendszerek elméleti vizsgálata = Theoretical study of strongly correlated low-dimensional systems

Jenő Sólyom, Gábor Fáth, Örs Legeza +1 more

| We have studied the properties of low-dimensional strongly correlated systems analytically, using the renormalization group approach and the Bethe hypothesis as well as numerically with the density-matrix renormalization-group algorithm. We have shown that the quantum information entropy is a good quantity to study when the location of a quantum critical point or the properties of the phases have to be determined. The entropy of neighboring sites exhibits a jump or discontinuity at the transition, while oscillations in the length dependence of the entropy of finite segments indicate soft modes or the inhomogeneity of the phase. We have constructed a general model to describe the neutral-ionic transition in charge-transfer salts, and pointed out that the transition is either of first order or takes place in two steps, with an intermediate dimerized phase. We have studied the metal-insulator transition in the SU(n) symmetric generalization of the Hubbard model. We have shown that this system behaves similarly to the half-filled usual Hubbard chain if the band is 1/n-filled. The half-filled models behave differently, they are dimerized for n>2 due to the coupling of the charge and spin modes, which all become gapped. For generic fillings, Luttinger liquid behavior is found. When such chains are coupled together, Luttinger liquid behavior is still possible for appropriate choices of the couplings, but such a state cannot exist if the chains are Hubbard like.

Kutatásaink 13 megjelent referált cikket eredményeztek. Válogatott eredményeink, négy egymással összefüggő területről a következők. \n1) Kvantum-rendszerek időben folytonos monitorozása, nanoelektronikai töltésdetektálás \nElemeztük egy kvantumpötty (kvantum-dot) töltésállapotának monitorozását egy csúcsérzékenységű árammérő folyamatos leolvasásával, tekintettel a kvantum-Zénon-effektusnak a kísérleti megfigyelésére [22]. \n2) A kvantumos-klasszikus átmenet mechanizmusai - a gravitáció lehetséges szerepe \nNumerikusan meghatároztuk a "súrlódásos" Newton-Schrödinger egyenlet szoliton-megoldását [25]. Megvizsgáltuk a gravitációs önkölcsönhatás megjelenésének lehetőségét egy nanomechanikai oszcillátor mérhető rezgési spektrumában [20]. \n3) Kvantum opto-mechanikai kísérletek elméleti háttere Rámutattunk a jelenleg több laborban fejlesztés alatt álló nano-tükrös kísérletek korlátaira, egyfelől a vártnál nagyobb (mikro-kelvines) hűtési elvárásra [6], másfelől a lézeres hűtést korlátozó fáziszajra [24]. \n4) Kvantuminformáció \nA Springer kiadónál tankönyvet jelentettünk meg [16]. Bevezettük az ú.n. kvantumkesztyű fogalmát a kiralitás "kvantum-gazdaságos" kódolására [1], ezt a kutatást a Nature és a Magyar Tudomány is szemlézte. | Our research led to publication of 13 refereed papers. A selection of our results in four interrelated area follows. \n1) Time-continuous monitoring of quantum systems, charge detection with nanoelectronics \nWe have analysed the monitoring of a quantum dot by continuous reading out an ammeter of cutting edge sensitivity, to consider the experimental test of the quantum Zenon effect [22]. \n2) Mechanisms of the quantum-classical transition - possible role of gravity \nWe have numerically determined the solitonic solution of the "frictional" Newton-Schrödinger equation [25]. We have investigated the possibility that the appearence of a gravitational self-interaction can be identified in the measurable vibrational spectrum of a nanomechanical oscillator [20]. \n3) Theoretical background of quantum opto-mechanical experiments \nWe have pointed out limitations of experiments with nano-mirrors that are under current development in various laboratories. There is an unexpected strong request of (micro-kelvin) cooling [6], as well as a limitation of laser cooling due to the phase noise [24]. \n4) Quantum information \nSpringer published a textbook of ours [16]. Kvantumoptikai rendszerek és kvantuminformatikai alkalmazásaik = Quantum optical systems and their applications in quantum information science

József Janszky, Петер Адам, János K. Asbóth +8 more

Kiterjesztettük a stimulált Raman adiabatikus átmenetet egy háromszintű, degenerált energianívójú atomra. Eljárásunkkal a teljes Hilbert-teret le lehet fedni a gerjesztő impulzusok paramétereinek változtatásával. Általánosítottuk a Pólya-féle számot kvantumos bolyongásokra. A hiperkockán történő keresést optimalizáltuk és a kvantumoptikai megvalósításnál fellépő zajt elemeztük. Javasoltuk az 1D kvantumbolyongás megvalósítását félvezető struktúrákban. Összefonódáson alapuló kvantumkommunikációs sémákat találtunk diszkrét és folytonos változós kvantumállapotok minimális klasszikus kommunikáció árán való távoli előállítására. Összefonódottság detektálására dolgoztunk ki új módszereket. Feles spinű részecskékből álló sokrészecskés rendszerekre megadtuk a kollektív mennyiségek mérésén alapuló összefonódottsági kritériumok teljes halmazát. Kis számú, egyenként is elérhető spinre is megadtunk optimális kritériumokat. | We extended the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage method to a degenerate three-level atom. Our scheme covers the full target Hilbert space by varying the exciting laser pulse parameters. We generalized the Pólya number for quantum walks. We optimized the search algorithm on a hypercube and analyzed the effect of noise in a quantum optical setting. We proposed the implementation of the 1D quantum walk in semiconductor structures. We found entanglement based quantum communication schemes that enable the remote preparation of a family of discrete and continuous variable quantum states at minimal classical communication cost. We developed new methods for detecting quantum entanglement. In systems with very many particles, where only collective quantities can be measured, we determined the full set of entanglement conditions for the case of spin-half particles. We also gave optimal criteria for a system of few, individually addressable spins. We developed new cooling schemes for the manipulation of motion of neutral atoms with far detuned laser fields, in which the hyperfine states carrying quantum bit information are not influenced. We considered various effects due to radiative atom-atom interaction in far detuned laser fields. We developed a procedure more efficient than other known numeric methods for calculating the time-evolution operator in open systems. We applied it for calculating the fidelity of a CNOT gate realized by atoms in a cavity.

We have introduced the notion of the so-called quantum gloves, to the economic quantum encoding the chirality [1]. Both Nature and Magyar Tudomany have reviewed this result.
