Anharmonic oscillator model for driven and vacuum-field Rabi oscillations

S. Rudin, T. L. Reinecke

The dynamics of electronic excitations coupled to photons in semiconductor microcavities is discussed using an anharmonic oscillator model to represent the electronic excitations. It is shown that this description, unlike the harmonic oscillator model, exhibits driven Rabi oscillations in addition to vacuum-field Rabi splitting, and the magnitude of the anharmonicity needed is discussed. In the limit of large anharmonicity, a two-level description of the electronic excitations is recovered. A picture of the anharmonicity arising from exciton-exciton interactions is discussed.

Dynamical Fano-Like Interference between Rabi Oscillations and Coherent Phonons in a Semiconductor Microcavity System

S. Yoshino, Goro Oohata, K. Mizoguchi

We report on dynamical interference between short-lived Rabi oscillations and long-lived coherent phonons in CuCl semiconductor microcavities resulting from the coupling between the two oscillations. The Fourier-transformed spectra of the time-domain signals obtained from semiconductor microcavities by using a pump-probe technique show that the intensity of the coherent longitudinal optical phonon of CuCl is enhanced by increasing that of the Rabi oscillation, which indicates that the coherent phonon is driven by the Rabi oscillation through the Fröhlich interaction. Moreover, as the Rabi oscillation frequency decreases upon crossing the phonon frequency, the spectral profile of the coherent phonon changes from a peak to a dip with an asymmetric structure. The continuous wavelet transformation reveals that these peak and dip structures originate from constructive and destructive interference between Rabi oscillations and coherent phonons, respectively. We demonstrate that the asymmetric spectral structures in relation to the frequency detuning are well reproduced by using a classical coupled oscillator model on the basis of dynamical Fano-like interference.

Optical bistability and Rabi oscillations in a driven two-level semiconductor quantum dot: Effect of dynamical Coulomb interaction between two electrons

İbrahim Karabulut

We theoretically investigate the influence of dynamic Coulomb interaction on optical bistability and Rabi oscillations in a driven two-level semiconductor quantum dot system under laser irradiation. Using density matrix equations derived from the Coulomb-interaction model proposed by Lu et al. [Phys. Rev. A 103, 043504 (2021)], we obtain analytical solutions for population inversion under the rotating wave approximation. Our analysis shows that the Coulomb interaction induces optical bistability, governed by a cubic equation. The thresholds and the shapes of the hysteresis loops are tunable and can be controlled by various parameters, including electron density, confinement potential, detuning, and dephasing. Additionally, our numerical simulations demonstrate the potential for achieving high-efficiency population inversion and predicting bifurcation and anharmonic regimes in Rabi oscillations under monochromatic excitation.
