Abstract

Untrusted relay in self-organizing wireless network will lead to serious security threats. This paper proposed a physi-cal-layer security mechanism based on interference nodes. The transmission was divided into two phases: first, sent signal with artificial noise from the sender and interference nodes to relay, second, restored the original information by receiver with the help of interference nodes. As the signal received by the relay and the eavesdropper were always accompanied with severe interference, security of the system was well guaranteed.Simulation results show that, when the eavesdropper and interference nodes are in different locations, the system always has a large secure-transmission rate.

A physical layer security transmission mechanism based on joint channel characteristics in relay system

Xiangyu Li, Liang Jin, Kaizhi Huang

To solve the problem of untrusted relays, we propose a physical layer security transmission mechanism in relay system. We get the joint channel characteristics by combining the two channels, source node to relay and relay to destination node, into one. Based on this, we construct artificial noise and add it to the transmission signal, in order to make the internal and external wire-tappers get none of the information. The optimal signal transmission power is calculated subsequently. Simulation results show that when the artificial noise lies in the null space of the legitimate receiver's channel, secrecy capacity of the cooperative relay system can be improved and the bit-error rate of the legitimate receiver is much smaller than wire-tappers.

Research on physical layer security based on cooperative interference

Haiyan Huang, Yuxin Ai, Linlin Liang

Because of the openness of the wireless relay channel, the confidential information transmitted in the channel is very easy to be eavesdropped on by malicious eavesdroppers and cause information leakage. In specifically, a friendly jammer will transmit a jamming signal to confound an eavesdropper attempting to listen in on a relay transmission. For wireless relay networks using the Rayleigh fading channel model, this research proposes a physical layer security technique based on cooperative interference. In the system, we design two-time stages to realize the transmission of the source to the user. During the initial phase, the signal source transmits a composite signal to both the user and the relay. In the second phase, the confidential information is relayed and artificial noise is generated by friendly jammers to confuse eavesdroppers. Through our proposed method, we derive precise analytical expressions for the intercept probability (IP) and outage probability (OP). The correctness of the theoretical derivation is verified by numerical results and theoretical simulation.

Robust Cooperative Relay Beamforming Design for Security

Xiangwu Gong, Feihong Dong, Hongjun Li +1 more

In this paper, we investigate a security transmission scheme at the physical layer for cooperative wireless relay networks in the presence of a passive eavesdropper. While the security scheme has been previously investigated with perfect channel state information(CSI) in the presence of a passive eavesdropper, this paper focuses on researching the robust cooperative relay beamforming mechanism for wireless relay networks which makes use of artificial noise (AN) to confuse the eavesdropper and increase its uncertainty about the source message. The transmit power used for AN is maximized to degrade the signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) level at the eavesdropper, while satisfying the individual power constraint of each relay node and worst-case SINR constraint at the desired receiver under a bounded spherical region for the norm of the CSI error vector from the relays to the destination.Cooperative beamforming weight vector in the security scheme can be obtained by using S-Procedure and rank relaxation techniques. The benefit of the proposed scheme is showed in simulation results.

Relaying and physical layer security

Raef Bassily, Şennur Ulukuş

In this chapter, we investigate the problem of physical-layer security in wireless networks with cooperative relays. In Sections 11.2 and 11.3, we study the notion of deaf cooperation to reinforce security of transmission in wireless relay networks. We distinguish between two main approaches to deaf cooperation, namely, the cooperative jamming (CJ) approach and the noise forwarding (NF) approach. In a CJ scheme, a helping interferer transmits Gaussian noise when it can hurt the eavesdropper more than it can hurt the legitimate receiver, and hence improves the achievable secure information rate. The idea of introducing artificial noise in a Gaussian wiretap channel by a helper node was introduced in References 5-7. In relay networks with secrecy constraints, the role of CJ was further investigated, e.g., in References 8-10. References 11-13 proposed CJ strategies for multiple-antenna relay networks. On the other hand, in the NF scheme which was introduced in Reference 14, the relay node sends a dummy (context-free) codeword drawn at random from a codebook that is known to both the legitimate receiver and the eavesdropper to introduce helpful interference that would hurt the eavesdropper more than the legitimate receiver.

Anti-eavesdropping Scheme on Physical Layer for Full-duplex Relay System Based on SWIPT

Haoyuan Zhou, Weijia Lei

A secure transmission scheme of anti-eavesdropping on the physical layer in simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) is proposed. Each node in the system is a single-antenna node. There are direct links between eavesdropping node and the source or relay node. The relay work in a full-duplex mode, which uses the amplify-and-forward method to forward the signal. Between the source and relay node is SWIPT mode. The relay collects energy from the received radio frequency (RF) signal and uses it for forwarding. The destination node is also a full-duplex node, sends artificial noise to perform cooperative interference while receiving information to intercept the eavesdropping node. Aiming at maximizing the secrecy rate of the system, the power splitting factor, signal and artificial noise power distribution factor are optimized when the relay adopts the power splitting method. Simulation results suggest that the use of power splitting way and cooperative interference scheme at destination can significantly improve the performance of system.
