Abstract

To solve the problem of untrusted relays, we propose a physical layer security transmission mechanism in relay system. We get the joint channel characteristics by combining the two channels, source node to relay and relay to destination node, into one. Based on this, we construct artificial noise and add it to the transmission signal, in order to make the internal and external wire-tappers get none of the information. The optimal signal transmission power is calculated subsequently. Simulation results show that when the artificial noise lies in the null space of the legitimate receiver's channel, secrecy capacity of the cooperative relay system can be improved and the bit-error rate of the legitimate receiver is much smaller than wire-tappers.

A joint random weighting method for physical layer security in wireless relay system

Suxia Guo, Xinsheng Ji, Keming Ma +1 more

In the wireless cooperative relay system, the private information can be intercepted by the untrusted relays. The traditional method of artificial noise based on physical layer security consumed much more power to protect the security of private information. To solve this problem, this paper combines amplify-and-forward coefficient of the relays with the joint channel state information (JCSI), and constructs the joint channel between the sender and the receiver. According to the joint channel characteristics the sender designs randomized weighting vector for its antenna, which is constant by multiplied with the joint channel characteristics. This method can make the equivalent channel be constant between the sender and the legitimate receiver while the equivalent channels change fast between the sender and the relays. Simulation results show that the bit error rate (BER) of Relays is almost 0.5 constantly and the BER of receiver is 10-3simultaneously when the received SNR is 10dB. Compared with the method based on artificial noise, 1.6dB power can be saved in the proposed method.

A Distributed Implementation Algorithm for Physical Layer Security Based on Untrusted Relay Cooperation and Artificial Noise

Xiangyu Li, Xueming Wang, Xiangyang Xu +1 more

In this letter, we consider a cooperation system with multiple untrusted relays (URs). To keep the transmitted information confidential, we obtain joint channel characteristics (JCCs) through combining the channels from the source to the destination. Then, in the null space of the JCCs, jammers construct artificial noise to confuse URs when the source node broadcasts its data. Through a distributed implementation algorithm, the weight of each node can be obtained from its own channel state information. Simulation results show that high-level security of the system can be achieved when internal and external eavesdroppers coexist.

Cooperative Jamming and Relay Beamforming Design for Physical Layer Secure Two-Way Relaying

Zonghao Ma, Yanhui Lu, Lingfeng Shen +2 more

In this work, physical layer secure transmission of a cooperative wireless communication system over a three-phase amplify-and-forward (AF) two-way relaying channels is studied. A cooperative jamming and multi-antenna relay beamforming scheme that improves physical layer security of the system is proposed. Specifically, it is suggested that in the first and second timeslots when the legitimate users transmit alternatively, a jamming signal can be transmitted by the legitimate party that is not transmitting information-bearing signals This scheme, compared with the approach using a dedicated jammer, achieves a similar jamming effect with reduced complexity. In the third time slot of the protocol, the relay uses two beamforming matrices to process the bidirectional information signals. The jamming signal components at the relay are projected onto the null space of the legitimate relay-destination channels such that they do not affect legitimate communications. Through joint optimization, the sum throughput of the legitimate communication is maximized. In the numerical examples, the proposed scheme is shown to improve the system's secrecy transmission performance.

Physical layer security transmission mechanism of relay network based on artificial noise

Xiangyu Li, Liang Jin, Kaizhi Huang

Untrusted relay in self-organizing wireless network will lead to serious security threats. This paper proposed a physi-cal-layer security mechanism based on interference nodes. The transmission was divided into two phases: first, sent signal with artificial noise from the sender and interference nodes to relay, second, restored the original information by receiver with the help of interference nodes. As the signal received by the relay and the eavesdropper were always accompanied with severe interference, security of the system was well guaranteed.Simulation results show that, when the eavesdropper and interference nodes are in different locations, the system always has a large secure-transmission rate.

Improving Physical Layer Security of AF Relay Networks via Beam-Forming and Jamming

Abdelhamid Salem, Khairi Ashour Hamdi

In this paper the cooperation of beam-forming and artificial noise (AN) in two-hop amplify-and- forward (AF) relaying system is proposed to enhance the security. we consider a half duplex AF relaying network with a multi-antenna source node and a destination in the presence of a passive eavesdropper.Since channel state information (CSI) of the eavesdropper is unknown, the AN transmitted by the source in the first phase and by the relays in the second phase is in all directions except the legitimate node one. As such two scenarios are considered here,: i) when all the relays amplify and forward the information source signal ii) when only the best relay is selected to amplify and forward the information source signal. The beam-former weights and the power allocation are obtained by solving an optimization problem. Results reveal that the proposed system can provide considerable improvements in terms of secrecy rate. It is also found that increasing the AN power, relative to the information signal power, will further improve the secrecy rate.

Performance evaluation of the physical layer security using artificial noise and relay station

Kabeya Junichi, Osamu Takyu, Tomoaki Otsuki Ohtsuki +2 more

In the physical layer security (PLS), the beam forming with multiple antennas enhances the received signal power at the legitimate user but suppresses it at the other users. The other users hardly demodulate the information without the bit error. However, if the channel state between the legitimate user and the other one is highly correlated, it is possible for the other users to demodulate the information signal. This paper proposes the novel secure communication system with utilizing the artificial noise and the relay station. When the legitimate user emits the artificial noise, the relay station receives the information bearing signal and the artificial noise. The other users cannot demodulate the information due to the interference of artificial noise. After the relay forwards the combined signal between the information bearing signal and the artificial noise to the legitimate user, the artificial noise is removed from the forwarded signal by the legitimate user. As a result, the legitimate user can demodulate the information. Therefore, the secure wireless communication can be constructed. This paper evaluates the secure capacity for the various location of eavesdropper and clarifies the validity of proposed system.
