Abstract

In this paper, we investigate a security transmission scheme at the physical layer for cooperative wireless relay networks in the presence of a passive eavesdropper. While the security scheme has been previously investigated with perfect channel state information(CSI) in the presence of a passive eavesdropper, this paper focuses on researching the robust cooperative relay beamforming mechanism for wireless relay networks which makes use of artificial noise (AN) to confuse the eavesdropper and increase its uncertainty about the source message. The transmit power used for AN is maximized to degrade the signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) level at the eavesdropper, while satisfying the individual power constraint of each relay node and worst-case SINR constraint at the desired receiver under a bounded spherical region for the norm of the CSI error vector from the relays to the destination.Cooperative beamforming weight vector in the security scheme can be obtained by using S-Procedure and rank relaxation techniques. The benefit of the proposed scheme is showed in simulation results.

Robust security transmission design for multi-user peer-to-peer wireless relay networks

Yang Dong-mei, Hongjun Li, Baoquan Ren +1 more

In this article, we studied the robust security transmission design for multi-user peer-to-peer relay networks, where all users demand secure communication and the eavesdropper is passive. Although the previous researches have designed the physical-layer security schemes under perfect channel state information, this study focuses on investigating the robust transmission design in the presence of a passive eavesdropper. Our goal is to maximize the artificial noise power to confuse the passive eavesdropper and subject to the worst-case signal-to-interference-noise-ratio constraints for all users under a bounded spherical region for the norm of the channel state information error vector from the relays to the destinations and the individual power constraints of all relay nodes. Mathematically, the original robust problem is difficult to solve due to its non-linearity and non-convexity. We propose to adopt S-Procedure and rank relaxation techniques to convert it to a semidefinite programming convex problem. The numerical results show the advantage of the proposed robust method.

Robust Beamforming Design for Secrecy in Multiuser Peer-to-Peer Wireless Relay Networks

Xiangwu Gong, Hao Yin, Feihong Dong +2 more

In this paper, physical layer security is studied for multiuser peer-to-peer (MUP2P) relay networks using amplify-and-forward (AF) protocol, where a secure user and other unclassified users coexist with an eavesdropper. Though the beamforming design has been previously investigated with perfect channel state information (CSI) in the presence of an eavesdropper, this paper focuses on researching the robust relay beamforming mechanism for MUP2P relay networks. The worst-case secrecy rate is maximized, while subject to the worst-case signal-to-interference-noise ratio constraint at each user and the total power constraint at relays under a bounded spherical region for the norm of the CSI error vector from the relays to the destination. Mathematically, the optimization problem is nonlinear and nonconvex. We propose an iterative algorithm to obtain an efficient solution of the nonconvex problem by employing S-Procedure and rank relaxation techniques. The convergence of the proposed robust algorithm is proved and its complexity is analyzed. Simulations show that the proposed design can significantly improve the performance of secure wireless communications.

Joint Cooperative Beamforming and Jamming to Secure AF Relay Systems With Individual Power Constraint and No Eavesdropper's CSI

Hui‐Ming Wang, Miao Luo, Xiang‐Gen Xia +1 more

Cooperative beamforming and jamming are two efficient schemes to improve the physical-layer security of a wireless relay system in the presence of passive eavesdroppers. However, in most works these two techniques are adopted separately. In this letter, we propose a joint cooperative beamforming and jamming scheme to enhance the security of a cooperative relay network, where a part of intermediate nodes adopt distributed beamforming while others jam the eavesdropper, simultaneously. Since the instantaneous channel state information (CSI) of the eavesdropper may not be known, we propose a cooperative artificial noise transmission based secrecy strategy, subjected to the individual power constraint of each node. The beamformer weights and power allocation can be obtained by solving a second-order convex cone programming (SOCP) together with a linear programming problem. Simulations show the joint scheme greatly improves the security.

Robust joint beamforming and artificial noise design for secure AF relay networks

Chao Wang, Hui‐Ming Wang

This letter studies the secure cooperative transmission for an amplify-and-forward (AF) relay network in the presence of multiple multi-antenna eavesdroppers. Since the perfect channel state information (CSI) of the eavesdroppers are not available, we propose a robust joint distributed beamforming and artificial noise scheme to maximize the worst-case secrecy rate of the network, under the total power constraint of all the relay nodes. With the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) technique, the design can be solved by a one-dimension search which involves a sequence of semidefinite programming (SDP). Simulation results demonstrate the validity of the proposed strategy.

Robust secure transmission for wireless relay networks with direct links and bounded channel uncertainties

Nanmiao Wu, Shaodan Ma

This paper investigates the problem of joint design of cooperative beamforming and artificial noise to achieve robust secure transmission in an amplify and forward (AF) relay network in the presence of multiple eavesdroppers. Specifically, the joint design is targeting to minimize the total relay transmission power while guaranteeing the quality of service at the legitimate receiver and preventing the eavesdroppers from interception. Different from prior designs, direct links between the source and the legitimate receiver/eavesdroppers are considered and no perfect channel state information is assumed. Considering bounded channel uncertainties in all links, the worst cases of the total relay transmission power, quality of service (i.e., the received signal-to-noise ratio) and security are first identified. Then an iterative algorithm is proposed to jointly design the relay beamforming and artificial noises for robust secure transmission. It is demonstrated by computer simulations that the proposed robust secure design is effective and practical when compared with the prior designs.

Secure Beamforming for Cooperative Wireless-Powered Networks With Partial CSI

Haiyan Guo, Zhen Yang, Yulong Zou +3 more

In this paper, we investigate the physical layer security (PLS) of cooperative wireless-powered networks where a source transmits confidential information to a destination with the aid of wireless-powered intermediate nodes equipped with multiple antennas in the presence of a passive eavesdropper. We consider two generalized joint relay and jammer selection (GJRJS) frameworks based on the power splitting (PS) and time switching (TS) techniques, respectively. Specifically, the intermediate nodes which cannot decode the source signal successfully are selected to act as friendly jammers to transmit artificial noise, and the remaining nodes are exploited as relays to simultaneously forward the source signal through cooperative beamforming. We further propose two cooperative secure beamforming (CSB) schemes for the PS-based GJRJS (PS-GJRJS) and TS-based GJRJS (TS-GJRJS) frameworks, respectively. To be specific, we investigate the optimization of the beamforming vector of our selected relays for maximizing the secrecy rate of the source–destination transmission. A closed-form solution is derived under the assumption of available instantaneous channel state information (CSI) of the main link and statistical CSI of the wiretap link. In addition, we also illustrate that the pure relay selection (PRS) scheme is a special case of our GJRJS framework at high signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). The numerical results show that the proposed CSB scheme achieves a higher secrecy rate than the traditional maximal ratio transmission (MRT) method for both the PS-GJRJS and TS-GJRJS frameworks. Additionally, the GJRJS framework outperforms the PRS as well as the joint best relay and jammer selection (JBRJS) methods in terms of secrecy rate.
