Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate that HG 01 (Hermit—Gauss) and HG 10 squeezed states can be generated simultaneously in an optical parametric amplifier. The HG 01 mode is a bright squeezed state and the HG 10 mode is a vacuum squeezed state. The squeezing of the HG 01 mode is −2.8 dB, and the squeezing of the HG 10 mode is −1.6 dB. We also demonstrate that the output field is also continuous-variable entanglement with orbital angular momentum.

Compact squeezed light source for higher-order Hermite–Gaussian modes

Jiaming Li, Juntao He, Hongbo Liu +3 more

Squeezed light is a fundamental nonclassical resource in quantum optics, and considerable progress has been made in its generation and manipulation. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a compact higher-order spatial modes squeezed light source, achieved by integrating second-harmonic generation and optical parametric oscillation within a single doubly resonant cavity. The HG 2 m ,2 n pump field, which is essential for the generation of HG m , n mode squeezed states, is produced via internal second-harmonic generation, substantially enhancing both the conversion efficiency and mode purity. With this configuration, we successfully generated squeezed vacuum states in the HG 0,0 , HG 1,0 , and HG 2,0 modes, achieving squeezing levels of −4.53 ± 0.26 dB, −3.68 ± 0.19 dB, and −2.58 ± 0.08 dB, respectively. This platform provides a viable pathway for scalable, multimode quantum state generation, with broad potential in quantum metrology and quantum communication.

Realization of multi-transverse-mode squeezed optical frequency combs with Gouy phase compensation

Peng Liu, Juan Li, Xinghua Li +7 more

Multimode quantum light fields significantly enhance quantum state manipulation and communication capabilities by expanding the dimensionality of the Hilbert space. In this work, we elaborately design a non-horizontal cavity suitable for a Gouy phase-compensated synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillator. By injecting an optical frequency comb in HG 10 mode into the cavity as the seed, we demonstrate the simultaneous generation of a bright squeezed optical frequency comb in HG 10 mode and a vacuum squeezed optical frequency comb in HG 01 mode. The coexistence of amplitude quadrature squeezed fields in these two orthogonal first-order Hermite-Gaussian transverse modes also suggest the presence of quadrature entanglement between the two first-order Laguerre-Gaussian modes, LG 0 + 1 and LG 0 - 1 . This research underscores the capability of one-step generation of multi-transverse-mode squeezed optical frequency combs using a single cavity, marking a significant stride in the realm of quantum optics.

Manipulation of continuous variable orbital angular momentum squeezing and entanglement by pump shaping

Zhi Li, Xulian Guo, Hengxin Sun +2 more

Spatially structured quantum states, such as orbital angular momentum (OAM) squeezing and entanglement, is currently a popular topic in quantum optics. The method of generating and manipulating spatial quantum states on demand needs to be explored. In this paper, we generated OAM mode squeezed states of −5.4 dB for the L G 0 + 1 mode and −5.3 dB for the L G 0 − 1 mode directly by an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) for the first time. Additionally, we demonstrated that the OAM mode squeezed and entangled states were respectively generated by manipulating the nonlinear process of the OPO by controlling the relative phase of two beams of different modes, thus making two different spatial multimode pump beams. We characterized the Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) entangled states by indirectly measuring the squeezing for the H G 10 ( 45 ∘ ) mode and H G 10 ( 135 ∘ ) mode, and directly measuring the entanglement between the L G 0 + 1 and L G 0 − 1 modes. The effective manipulation of the OAM quantum state provides a novel insight into the continuous variable quantum state generation and construction on demand for high-dimensional quantum information and quantum metrology.

Continuous Variable Entanglement and Squeezing of Orbital Angular Momentum States

Mikael Lassen, Gerd Leuchs, Ulrik L. Andersen

We report the first experimental characterization of the first-order continuous variable orbital angular momentum states. Using a spatially nondegenerate optical parametric oscillator (OPO) we produce quadrature entanglement between the two first-order Laguerre-Gauss modes. The family of orbital angular momentum modes is mapped on an orbital Poincaré sphere, where the mode's position on the sphere is spanned by the three orbital parameters. Using a nondegenerate OPO we produce squeezing of these parameters, and as an illustration, we reconstruct the "cigar-shaped" uncertainty volume on the orbital Poincaré sphere.

Generation of multi-mode squeezed vacuum using pulse pumped fiber optical parametric amplifiers

Nannan Liu, Yuhong Liu, Jiamin Li +2 more

Multimode squeezed states are essential resources in quantum information processing and quantum metrology with continuous variables. Here we present the experimental generation of squeezed vacuum via the degenerate four wave mixing realized by pumping a piece of dispersion shifted fiber with mode-locked ultrafast pulse trains. The noise fluctuation is lower than the shot noise limit by 1.1 ± 0.08 dB (1.95 ± 0.17 dB after correction for detection losses). The detailed investigation illustrates that the results can be further improved by suppressing Raman scattering and by reshaping the spectrum of the local oscillator to achieve the required mode-matching of the homodyne detection system. Our study is useful for developing a compact fiber source of multi-mode squeezed vacuum.

Simultaneous measurement of multimode squeezing

Ismail Barakat, Mahmoud Kalash, D. Scharwald +3 more

Multimode squeezed light is an increasingly popular tool in photonic quantum technologies, including sensing, imaging, and computation. Meanwhile, the existing methods of its characterization are technically complicated, and in the best case, deal with a single mode at a time. Here, we demonstrate experimentally how the squeezing can be measured in multiple spatial modes simultaneously, using optical parametric amplification and direct detection followed by modal decomposition based on spatial intensity correlations. We apply this method to a multimode squeezed vacuum generated via high-gain parametric down-conversion. We measure the degrees of squeezing and anti-squeezing for eight strongest spatial modes, obtaining highest squeezing and anti-squeezing values of $-5.2 \pm 0.2$ dB and $8.6 \pm 0.3$ dB, respectively.
