Abstract

The nonlinear theory of formation of entangled polaritons of probe field in the case of Raman interaction scheme in Y2SiO5 crystal doped by 59Pr atoms is developed. The model of polariton waveguide with doped medium inside based on Fabry-Prot interferometer is suggested. The opportunity of dynamic amplification of entangled polaritons in such a system is shown.

Dynamic amplification and generation of entangled polaritons in doped media

Alexei V. Prokhorov, Igor O. Barinov, Sergei M Arakelyan

We have developed a theory that describes the formation of probe-field polaritons under the conditions of strong coupling in the Raman Λ-scheme interaction in a Y 2 SiO 5 crystal doped with 59 Pr atoms. The threshold optical pump power for efficient amplification of the probe-field polaritons in a medium consisting of three-level atoms is determined. The onset of strong nonclassical correlations (entanglement) between the light- and dark-state polaritons at the near-threshold pump power is established.

Generation of entangled polaritons in doped media

Igor O. Barinov, Alexei V. Prokhorov, Sergei M Arakelyan

We developed a semiclassical theory of polariton excitations for the Λ-scheme of interaction realized in an yttrium orthosilicate crystal doped with Pr 59 atoms. The threshold optical pump power for efficient amplification of the probefield polaritons in a medium consisting of three-level atoms is determined. At the near-threshold conditions in the system the appearance of strong non-classical correlations (entanglement) between light and dark polaritons, similar to generation of biphotons in optics is predicted.

Generation of Raman polaritons in three-level atomic media

Igor O. Barinov, Alexei V. Prokhorov, A. P. Alodjants +1 more

A theory of formation of Stokes field (Raman) polaritons, which arise due to the coherent stimulated Raman scattering of light in an ensemble of three-level atoms placed in a Fabry-Perot cavity in the case of a strong coupling regime, is developed. The dispersion and absorption properties of Raman polaritons are investigated and the conditions for polariton amplification are found. It is shown that for certain pump power values, nonclassical correlations (entanglement) between light and dark polaritons are observed in the system.

Coherent Polariton Radiation and Light Localization

Vyacheslav I. Yukalov

A system of resonance atoms is placed in a medium with developed polariton effect. In the spectrum of polariton states there can exist a band gap. If an atom with a resonance frequency inside the polariton gap is incorporated into the medium, the atomic spontaneous emission can be strongly suppressed. This is what is called the localization of light. Nevertheless, an ensemble of resonance atoms inside the polariton gap can radiate if their coherent interaction is sufficiently strong. Conditions when coherent polariton radiation can appear and the properties of this coherent polariton emission are studied.

A theory of nonlinear susceptibility in polaritonic band‐gap materials doped with multi‐level atoms

Debashish Mukherji, Mahi R. Singh

We have studied the nonlinear susceptibility in dispersive polaritonic band-gap (DPBG) materials in the presence of five-level impurity atoms. Initially, the atom is prepared in a coherent superposition of two levels |b〉 and |c〉. The levels |b〉 and |c〉 are coupled to the upper level |a〉 with a coherent laser field. The nonlinear susceptibility has been calculated corresponding to transitions |a〉 → |c〉 and |a〉 → |b〉 using the equation of motion for the density matrix. The atomic system is interacting with the polariton reservoir. The effect of atom-polariton reservoir coupling on the imaginary part of the nonlinear susceptibility has been studied when the resonance energy lies in lower band of the polariton spectrum. It is found that by shifting the resonance energy away from the band edge, the system goes to the probe gain state. It is also found that by changing the intensity of the coherent laser field, the system switches from gain to loss state and vice-versa. (© 2005 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Generation of polarization-squeezed light in doped resonant media

G. A. Burmakin, Mikhail Yu. Gubin, Alexei V. Prokhorov +1 more

The cross-interaction effects for a two-mode light pulse in an optical matrix doped with atoms that are resonant with the light in the presence of two control optical pump pulses (M scheme) have been analyzed. The fundamental possibility of effective generation of polarization-squeezed light in this system at a simultaneous nonlinear amplification of the probe field is shown. The optimal conditions for generating polarization-squeezed light in a doped optical fiber are found for different problem parameters.
