Abstract

We present a model which treats non-perturbatively the effects of both the dipolar coupling and reservoir fluctuations on the interband optical response of a 3-level single quantum dot. We are able to study the transition to a Rabi-like situation with increasing excitation power. Our three level system allows us to simulate both PL and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) experiments. The PL spectrum displays one or a few lines depending on the excitation intensity, relaxation efficiency and reservoir fluctuation rates. Non-perturbative optical response of a single quantum dot in a fluctuating environment

Aleksandar Janković, R. Ferreira, G. Bastard

We present a model which treats non-perturbatively the effects of both dipolar coupling and reservoir fluctuations on the interband optical response of a single quantum dot. We are able to study the transition to a Rabi-like situation with increasing excitation power. The incorporation of an energy relaxation process (for instance, due to polaron relaxation among the dot polaron levels) in a three-level system allows us to simulate both photoluminescence (PL) and photoluminescence excitation experiments. The PL spectrum displays one or a few lines depending on the excitation intensity, relaxation efficiency and reservoir fluctuation rates.

Macroscopic response of Rabi oscillations in a quantum dot ensemble

S. Mitsutake, Mamiko Kujiraoka, Junko Ishi‐Hayase +4 more

Abstract We numerically investigated optical Rabi oscillations of excitonic polarization in a quantum dot ensemble, taking into consideration the spatial distribution of both the excitation electric field and the coherent signal field. We show that the spatial distributions of the signal fields change drastically by increasing the pulse area for excitation pulses with a Gaussian spatial distribution. We found that the ensemble average of the signal intensity is affected by the size of the aperture located in front of the detector, depending on the spatial distribution of the signals on the detector. Non‐linear optics on an exciton state in a single quantum dot

Romain Melet, R. Grousson, V. Voliotis +1 more

Abstract We report on non‐linear effects on the exciton ground state in a single quantum dot, driven by a strong resonant optical field. The resonant excitation is achieved by embedding the quantum dots in a waveguiding structure. Thus, the light–matter coupling is enhanced, allowing the observation of Rabi oscillations up to three periods. With increasing pulse area, a decrease of the exciton lifetime is observed leading to a very rapid damping of the oscillations amplitude. Resonant coherent control experiments show that the coherence time of the ground exciton state in a single quantum dot is fast, of the order of a few tens of picoseconds. Strong light‐matter coupling in a quantum dot: local field effects

Gregory Ya. Slepyan, A. Magyarov, С. А. Максименко +2 more

Manifestation of local fields in excitonic Rabi oscillations in an isolated arbitrary shaped quantum dot (QD) has been theoretically investigated. Interaction of QD with harmonic electromagnetic field as well as with ultrashort optical pulse has been considered. Bifurcation and anharmonism in the Rabi oscillations in a QD are predicted. Step-like transitions of the inversion as a function of peak pulse strength are demonstrated to be observable in a QD exposed to a Gaussian pulse. (© 2005 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Photon statistics of a single quantum dot in a microcavity

Yumian Su, Marten Richter, Andreas Knorr +2 more

Abstract We introduce a theoretical model to describe the dynamics of an electrically pumped single quantum dot interacting with a microcavity. Within our framework, it is possible to study the full photon statistics of the quantum light emission for different pump rates and to include semiconductor specific Pauli‐ blocking effects in the polarization dynamics. In the single photon limit, we find that, compared to comparable atomic systems, two photon events are suppressed stronger by the carrier reservoir of the quantum dot. Coherent control of the biexciton in a single quantum dot

Timur Flissikowski, Alexander Betke, Ilya A. Akimov +1 more

Abstract We report on coherent control of the two‐photon transition between the ground state and the biexciton state on a single quantum dot level. The population of the biexciton is monitored by the cascaded spontaneous emission of the biexciton complex via the exciton states. The signal shows interference pattern at the double laser frequency and its contrast decays non‐exponentially at the time scale of 10 ps. The contrast decrease is attributed to a dynamical inhomogeneous broadening of the energy levels due to long‐term fluctuations in the dot environment. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
