Abstract

Abstract We introduce a theoretical model to describe the dynamics of an electrically pumped single quantum dot interacting with a microcavity. Within our framework, it is possible to study the full photon statistics of the quantum light emission for different pump rates and to include semiconductor specific Pauli‐ blocking effects in the polarization dynamics. In the single photon limit, we find that, compared to comparable atomic systems, two photon events are suppressed stronger by the carrier reservoir of the quantum dot. Entangled‐photon generation from a quantum dot in cavity QED

Hiroshi Ajiki, Hajime Ishihara

Abstract We theoretically study polarization‐entangled photon generation from a single quantum dot in a microcavity. Entangled‐photon pairs with singlet or triplet Bell states are generated in the resonant‐hyperparametric scattering via dressed states in the cavity QED. Although co‐polarized non‐entangled photons are also generated, the generation is dramatically suppressed in the strong‐coupling limit owing to the photon blockade effect. Finite binding energy of biexciton is also important for the generation of photon pairs with high degree of entanglement. (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Second‐order correlation function of entangled photons from a quantum dot in microcavity

Hiroshi Ajiki, Hajime Ishihara

Abstract We theoretically study cross‐polarized entangled photon generation from a single quantum dot in microcavity. Generation of co‐polarized non‐entangled photons is suppressed in the strong‐coupling limit due to the photon blockade effect. Normalized second‐order correlation function shows quantum beat resulting from interference between two kinds of entangled photons. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Multiplets in the optical emission spectra of Dicke states of quantum dots excitons coupled to microcavity photons

Fabrice P. Laussy, Михаил Михайлович Глазов, Alexey Vitalievich Kavokin +1 more

We present an overview of the model we developed (F. P. Laussy et al., cond-mat/0505728 [1]) to describe strong coupling of light with excitons hosted by large quantum dots, where the number of excitons is eventually limited by Pauli blocking of the underlying electron-hole structure. We apply it to a limiting case not investigated before, where excitations are created in states analogous of Dicke states describing non-interacting distinguishable fermionic excitations coupled through the radiation field. The multiplet structures in the optical emission spectra which we obtain show, by comparison with our previous results, that they remain essentially the same independently of the model for small saturation numbers, while they acquire specificities of their own when the number of allowed excitons becomes large. Theoretical analysis of light emission from a coupled system of a photonic nanocavity and a quantum dot

Makoto Yamaguchi, Takashi Asano, Masayuki Fujita +1 more

Abstract This report quantum mechanically analyses a system composed of a two‐level system, a single mode cavity, and free space photon modes, which are coupled to each other. The analytical solution in the intermediate regime between the strong and weak coupling regimes is successfully obtained. It is found that the emission rate reaches its maximum when the cavity photon lifetime τcav satisfy 1/τcav = 4|g |, where 2|g | is the vacuum Rabi frequency. Also, Fano resonance is shown to occur under certain conditions. These results can be useful for high‐speed single photon sources and for fundamental understanding of the interaction between a quantum dot and a cavity mode. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Emission Properties And Photon Statistics Of A Single Quantum-Dot Laser

Christopher Gies, P. Gärtner, S. Ritter +3 more

We study the light‐matter interaction of a single semiconductor quantum dot in a microcavity. Excitation‐dependent effects, like dephasing and Coulomb screening lead to a transition from excitonic emission to contributions from multi‐exciton states as the pump is increased. During this transition, the system passes from strong to weak coupling, the photon‐emission changes from sub‐poissonian to coherent emission via bunching, and the output intensity follows an s‐shaped curve typically seen in many‐emitter systems. These effects have also been observed experimentally and explained in terms of an atomic model that also accounts for a background contribution of other emitter. Here we give an alternative interpretation based on the semiconductor nature of the single quantum‐dot emitter.

Emission properties and photon statistics of a single quantum dot laser

S. Ritter, P. Gärtner, Christopher Gies +1 more

A theoretical description for a single quantum-dot emitter in a microcavity is developed. We analyze for increasing steady-state pump rate the transition from the strong-coupling regime with photon antibunching to the weak-coupling regime with coherent emission. It is demonstrated how Coulomb interaction of excited carriers and excitation-induced dephasing can strongly modify the emission properties. Our theoretical investigations are based on a direct solution of the Liouville-von Neumann equation for the coupled carrier-photon system. We include multiple carrier excitations in the quantum dot, their Coulomb interaction, as well as excitation-induced dephasing and screening. Similarities and differences to atomic systems are discussed and results in the regime of recent experiments are interpreted.
