Abstract

We present an overview of the model we developed (F. P. Laussy et al., cond-mat/0505728 [1]) to describe strong coupling of light with excitons hosted by large quantum dots, where the number of excitons is eventually limited by Pauli blocking of the underlying electron-hole structure. We apply it to a limiting case not investigated before, where excitations are created in states analogous of Dicke states describing non-interacting distinguishable fermionic excitations coupled through the radiation field. The multiplet structures in the optical emission spectra which we obtain show, by comparison with our previous results, that they remain essentially the same independently of the model for small saturation numbers, while they acquire specificities of their own when the number of allowed excitons becomes large. Photon statistics of a single quantum dot in a microcavity

Yumian Su, Marten Richter, Andreas Knorr +2 more

Abstract We introduce a theoretical model to describe the dynamics of an electrically pumped single quantum dot interacting with a microcavity. Within our framework, it is possible to study the full photon statistics of the quantum light emission for different pump rates and to include semiconductor specific Pauli‐ blocking effects in the polarization dynamics. In the single photon limit, we find that, compared to comparable atomic systems, two photon events are suppressed stronger by the carrier reservoir of the quantum dot. Spontaneous emission from an exciton in a quantum dot embedded in a microcavity

Jun‐ichi Inoue, Tetsuyuki Ochiai, Kazuaki Sakoda

Abstract Spontaneous emission properties of a quantum dot embedded in a semiconductor microcavity are theoretically investigated. High Q value of the cavity yields both weak and strong coupling states, the former of which is mainly focused. There, spontaneous emission spectrum has doublet shape, which is caused by a quantum interference. This interference is robust against detuning between the excitation of the quantum dot and cavity mode. The time domain analysis is performed for further characterization of the high Q weak coupling state. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Statistics of excitons in quantum dots and their effect on the optical emission spectra of microcavities

Fabrice P. Laussy, Михаил Михайлович Глазов, Alexey Vitalievich Kavokin +2 more

A theoretical investigation is presented of the statistics of excitons in quantum dots (QDs) of different sizes. A formalism is developed to build the exciton creation operator in a dot from the single exciton wave function and it is shown how this operator evolves from purely fermionic, in the case of a small QD, to purely bosonic, in the case of large QDs. Nonlinear optical emission spectra of semiconductor microcavities containing single QDs are found to exhibit a peculiar multiplet structure which reduces to Mollow triplet and Rabi doublet in fermionic and bosonic limits, respectively.

Single quantum dots in microcavities

Fabrice P. Laussy, Михаил Михайлович Глазов, Alexey Vitalievich Kavokin +1 more

In 2004 two groups have reported observation of the strong coupling regime in 3D microcavities with single quantum dots (QD). We present the quantum theory of non-linear emission of photons by such structures. We derive the exciton creation operator which coincides with a Fermi one for QDs smaller than the exciton Bohr radius and with Bose one for very large QDs. In intermediate size dots excitonic statistics is in between the Fermi and Bose ones. Consequently, the non-linear optical spectra change from the Mollow triplet in the fermionic case to the Rabi doublet in the bosonic case. We predict appearance of a characteristic multiplet structure of the non-linear emission in the intermediate regime.

Optical spectra of a quantum dot in a microcavity in the nonlinear regime

Elena del Valle, Fabrice P. Laussy, Fabricio Macedo de Souza +1 more

The optical emission spectrum of a quantum dot in strong coupling with the single mode of a microcavity is obtained in the nonlinear regime. We study how exciton-exciton interactions alter the emission spectrum of the system, bringing the linear Rabi doublet into a multiplet structure that is strongly dependent on the cavity-exciton energy detuning. We emphasize how nonlinearity can be used to evidence the genuine quantum nature of the coupling by producing satellites peaks of the Rabi doublet that originate from the quantized energy levels of the interactions.

Entangled‐photon generation from a quantum dot in cavity QED

Hiroshi Ajiki, Hajime Ishihara

Abstract We theoretically study polarization‐entangled photon generation from a single quantum dot in a microcavity. Entangled‐photon pairs with singlet or triplet Bell states are generated in the resonant‐hyperparametric scattering via dressed states in the cavity QED. Although co‐polarized non‐entangled photons are also generated, the generation is dramatically suppressed in the strong‐coupling limit owing to the photon blockade effect. Finite binding energy of biexciton is also important for the generation of photon pairs with high degree of entanglement. (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
