Entangled‐photon generation from a quantum dot in cavity QED

Abstract

Abstract We theoretically study polarization‐entangled photon generation from a single quantum dot in a microcavity. Entangled‐photon pairs with singlet or triplet Bell states are generated in the resonant‐hyperparametric scattering via dressed states in the cavity QED. Although co‐polarized non‐entangled photons are also generated, the generation is dramatically suppressed in the strong‐coupling limit owing to the photon blockade effect. Finite binding energy of biexciton is also important for the generation of photon pairs with high degree of entanglement. (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Degree of entanglement of photon pairs generated from V‐type system in microcavity

Hiroshi Ajiki, Hajime Ishihara

Abstract We propose polarization‐entangled photon generation via resonant hyper‐parametric scattering of a V‐type system in microcavity. Although a bare V‐type system cannot generate entangled photon pairs, microcavity makes the generation possible because of the formation of dressed states. In the strong‐coupling limit, generation of non‐entangled co‐polarized photons is considerably suppressed due to the photon blockade effect. Furthermore, some entangled photons have different frequencies from those of the input fields, and thus, we can utilize spectral filtering in order to extract entangled photons. Second‐order correlation function of entangled photons from a quantum dot in microcavity

Hiroshi Ajiki, Hajime Ishihara

Abstract We theoretically study cross‐polarized entangled photon generation from a single quantum dot in microcavity. Generation of co‐polarized non‐entangled photons is suppressed in the strong‐coupling limit due to the photon blockade effect. Normalized second‐order correlation function shows quantum beat resulting from interference between two kinds of entangled photons. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Entangled Photon Generation from a Quantum Dot in Microcavity in a Strong Coupling Regime

Hiroshi Ajiki

Theoretical study on entangled photon generation from a quantum dot (QD) embedded in microcavity is briefly reviewed within a strong coupling regime. In this system, entangled photon pairs can be generated through the cascade photon emission via dressed states in the cavity quantum electrodynamics (CQED). Excitation levels of a QD are modeled by a V-type three-level system and four-level system including a biexciton. In contrast to the entangled-photon generation until now, all four Bell states can be generated from an identical cavity system by simply selecting applied-field polarizations and frequencies as characteristic features of the CQED. The CQED effects play a crucial role in providing a high degree of entanglement: (i) spectral fi ltering can be used to extract entangled photons due to the vacuum Rabi splitting and (ii) non-entangled co-polarized photons are strongly suppressed due to the photon blockade effect.

Enhanced generation of entangled‐photon pairs from a cavity system

Hiroshi Ajiki, Hajime Ishihara

Abstract We have theoretically studied efficiency of entangled‐photon generation from a quantum well embedded in a microcavity, and have found considerable enhancement of the efficiency. We have determined an optimal condition for achieving the strong enhancement, which is qualitatively understood from a characteristic feature of the cavity QED. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Effects of unbound two‐exciton states on entangled photons generated from a cavity biexciton

Hisaki Oka, Hajime Ishihara

Abstract We theoretically investigate entangled‐photon generation via biexciton in a planar microcavity. When the exciton‐photon coupling is comparable to the biexciton binding energy, the biexciton can be stably coupled with the cavity photons (referred to as a cavity biexciton). Entangled photons are generated by the cascade decay of the cavity biexciton. We show that high‐efficient generation of entangled photons can be achieved when the superposition state of a cavity biexciton and two cavity polaritons formed by unbound two‐exciton states is realized. Photon statistics of a single quantum dot in a microcavity

Yumian Su, Marten Richter, Andreas Knorr +2 more

Abstract We introduce a theoretical model to describe the dynamics of an electrically pumped single quantum dot interacting with a microcavity. Within our framework, it is possible to study the full photon statistics of the quantum light emission for different pump rates and to include semiconductor specific Pauli‐ blocking effects in the polarization dynamics. In the single photon limit, we find that, compared to comparable atomic systems, two photon events are suppressed stronger by the carrier reservoir of the quantum dot.
