Abstract

A theoretical investigation of 52Cr atomic beam in optical traps was reported, the Doppler and sub-Doppler laser cooling forces were discussed and some characteristics of these forces were shown based on the semi-classical theory. The simulative results indicate that the atomic beam can be collimated by these laser cooling forces, especially by sub-Doppler laser cooling force.

Xianming Xiong, Yanqun Li, Wentao Zhang

Based on two-level atomic theory and Doppler Effect, the laser collimation of Cr atoms with 3-D simulation analysis has been studied in this paper. By analyzing the 3-D force on chromium atom, a theoretical 3-D model is built and the accurate 3-D trajectory of chromium atoms in laser cooling field has been achieved. The final 3-D distribution of atoms with different parameters has also been described.

Doppler laser cooling of chromium atom beam

Wentao Zhang, Tongbao Li

We have laser collimated a chromium atomic beam in one dimension using the Doppler laser cooling technique. The experimental setup was given,in which, the laser was tuned 5MHz below the chromium transition by an AOM,the laser was generated by a frequency-doubled single-mode Ti:Sapphire laser. We also modulated the results of cooling.By calculating, the angular divergence of the atomic beam was reduced from 4.5mrad to 0.9mrad.

Laser Collimation of a Chromium Beam Using Doppler Force

Wentao Zhang, Baohua Zhu, Baowu Zhang +1 more

We report on the collimation of a chromium atomic beam by one-dimensional transverse Doppler laser cooling. Operated on the cycling 7S3→7P(superscript 0 subscript 4) transition at 425.55 nm, the optical molasses laser power was 60 mW, which was detuned 2.5 MHz below the resonant frequency. The angular divergence of the atomic beam was reduced from 4.5 mrad to 0.48 mrad, corresponding to a transverse velocity of ±0.46 m/s, and the relevant transverse temperature is 265 μK.

Laser Manipulation of Atoms and Atom Optics

Yuzhu Wang, Liang Liu

In this paper experiments on laser cooling, collimation and manipulation of a sodium atomic beam, such as the transverse collimation and decollimation of an atomic beam by a standing wave or a misaligned standing wave, longitudinal cooling of an atomic beam by a diffuse light field, sub-Doppler cooling in a blue detuned standing wave, are reported. The basic concept on atom optics is developed. An experiment on a method for the injection of atoms into an atomic cavity is also discussed.

In this paper,a size detecting system based on Laser induced fluorescence(LIF)is designed to measure the Cr atomic beam divergence of laser collimation by using one-dimensional transverse Doppler cooling scheme.Under the parameters of cooling laser power of 45mW,interaction distance of 24mm and detuning of-0.5Γ,we observe the angular distribution of Cr atoms(50%quantile) on the beam axis is from 1.07±0.10mrad to 0.46±0.10mrad by laser collimation.we also present detailed measurements of collimation angles over different laser powers and compare and analysis our results with numerical calculation based on the semiclassical model.
