Exact isolated solutions for the two-photon Rabi Hamiltonian

Abstract

The two-photon Rabi Hamiltonian is a simple model describing the interaction of light with matter, with the interaction being mediated by the exchange of two photons. Although this model is exactly soluble in the rotating-wave approximation, we work with the full Hamiltonian, maintaining the non-integrability of the model. We demonstrate that, despite this non-integrability, there exist isolated, exact solutions for this model analogous to the so-called Juddian solutions found for the single-photon Rabi Hamiltonian. In so doing we use a Bogoliubov transformation of the field mode, as described by the present authors in an earlier publication.

Bogoliubov transformations and exact isolated solutions for simple nonadiabatic Hamiltonians

Clive Emary, R. F. Bishop

We present a new method for finding isolated exact solutions of a class of nonadiabatic Hamiltonians of relevance to quantum optics and allied areas. Central to our approach is the use of Bogoliubov transformations of the bosonic fields in the models. We demonstrate the simplicity and efficiency of this method by applying it to the Rabi Hamiltonian.

Exact solvability of the quantum Rabi model using Bogoliubov operators

Qing‐Hu Chen, Chen Wang, Shu He +2 more

Within extended coherent states, a recent exact solution to the quantum Rabi model (QRM) [D. Braak, Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 100401 (2011)] can be recovered in an alternative simpler and more physical way, without use of any extra conditions. In the same framework, the two-photon QRM is solved exactly by treating extended squeezed states on an equal footing. Concise transcendental functions responsible for the exact solutions are derived. The isolated Juddian solutions are also analytically obtained in terms of degeneracy. Both the extended coherent states and squeezed states employed here are essentially Fock states in the space of the corresponding Bogoliubov operators, which result in free-particle number operators. The present approach can be summarized concisely in a unified way and easily extended to various spin-boson systems with multiple levels, even multiple modes.

A Class of Quasi-exact Solutions of Rabi Hamiltonian

Feng Pan, Yao You-Kun, Mingxia Xie +2 more

A class of quasi-exact solutions of the Rabi Hamiltonian, which describes a two-level atom interacting with a single-mode radiation field via a dipole interaction without the rotating-wave approximation, are obtained by using a wavefunction ansatz. Exact solutions for part of the spectrum are obtained when the atom-field coupling strength and the field frequency satisfy certain relations. As an example, the lowest exact energy level and the corresponding atom-field entanglement at the quasi-exactly solvable point are calculated and compared to results from the Jaynes–Cummings and counter-rotating cases of the Rabi Hamiltonian.

Generalized quantum Rabi model with both one- and two-photon terms: A concise analytical study

You-Fei Xie, Liwei Duan, Qing‐Hu Chen

A generalized quantum Rabi Hamiltonian with both one- and two-photon terms has emerged in the circuit quantum electrodynamics system for a decade. The usual parity symmetry is broken naturally in the simultaneous presence of both couplings, which complicates analytical treatments, even in the rotating-wave approximations. In this paper, we propose an adiabatic approximation to this generic model by using Bogoliubov operators and obtain a very concise analytical solution for both eigenvalues and eigenstates. Although the adiabatic approximation is only exact in the vanishing limit of the qubit frequency, the results for some physical observables nevertheless agree well with the numerical ones in a wide parameter regime. In the rotating-wave approximations, we also derive an analytical eigensolution. Two dominant Rabi frequencies are found in the Rabi oscillations of this generalized model. We also apply the present analytical theory to the vacuum Rabi splitting. It is found that some different phenomena emerge just because of the presence of the additional two-photon coupling term.

Symmetries in the Quantum Rabi Model

Daniel Braak

The quantum Rabi model is the simplest and most important theoretical description of light–matter interaction for all experimentally accessible coupling regimes. It can be solved exactly and is even integrable due to a discrete symmetry, the Z 2 or parity symmetry. All qualitative properties of its spectrum, especially the differences to the Jaynes–Cummings model, which possesses a larger, continuous symmetry, can be understood in terms of the so-called “G-functions” whose zeroes yield the exact eigenvalues of the Rabi Hamiltonian. The special type of integrability appearing in systems with discrete degrees of freedom is responsible for the absence of Poissonian level statistics in the spectrum while its well-known “Juddian” solutions are a natural consequence of the structure of the G-functions. The poles of these functions are known in closed form, which allows drawing conclusions about the global spectrum.

Exactly solvable approximating models for Rabi Hamiltonian dynamics

Andrey Pereverzev, Eric R. Bittner

The interaction between an atom and a one mode external driving field is an ubiquitous problem in many branches of physics and is often modeled using the Rabi Hamiltonian. In this paper we present a series of analytically solvable Hamiltonians that approximate the Rabi Hamiltonian and compare our results to the Jaynes-Cummings model which neglects the so-called counter-rotating term in the Rabi Hamiltonian. Through a unitary transformation that diagonalizes the Jaynes-Cummings model, we transform the counter-rotating term into separate terms representing several different physical processes. By keeping only certain terms, we can achieve an excellent approximation to the exact dynamics within specified parameter ranges.
