Quantum Error Correction Codes for Distributed Storage
Jincheng Zhang
Abstract
This paper explores the application of quantum error correction (QEC) codes to enhance the reliability and security of distributed storage systems. Traditional storage methods are susceptible to various forms of data loss due to hardware failures, environmental factors, and malicious attacks. Utilizing the inherent redundancy and error-correcting capabilities of QEC codes offers a novel approach to mitigate these risks. The core claim is that leveraging QEC codes for distributed storage significantly improves its robustness. This work details a framework for implementing such a system, outlining the key mechanisms involved in data redundancy and error correction. The proposed approach represents a new paradigm in data protection, particularly relevant in scenarios demanding high data integrity, such as long-term archival and secure communication. We examine the theoretical foundations of QEC and their adaptation to the distributed storage context, emphasizing the potential for increased storage capacity and improved fault tolerance. The core mechanism relies on encoding data using QEC codes to create redundant copies, enabling the detection and correction of errors without directly observing the underlying quantum states. ---
