Abstract

Abstract In our theoretical study, we explore the dynamic behavior and entanglement properties of a hybrid optomechanical system containing double quantum dots (QDs). The system is driven by a laser with amplitude modulation and we consider the modulation of the resonance frequency of the two QDs. Through the application of modulation techniques, we can achieve the targeted mean field value and effectively control the entanglement between various degrees of freedom. This innovative approach shows great potential for the development of efficient quantum memories suitable for continuous variable quantum information processing.

Enhancement of tripartite entanglement via periodically modulated fields with an atom-assisted optomechanical system

Jiaxin Wen, Yi Lu, Zhenghong Li +1 more

Abstract We propose a model for controlling and enhancing the entanglement between the two cavity fields and mirror with a hybrid optomechanical system consisting of Λ-type three-level 85Rb atomic ensembles driven by two externally modulated laser fields. When one (another) cavity mode is driven at the red (blue) mechanical sideband and both cavity modes are blue-detuned by the mechanical frequency to the respective atomic resonant transitions, the dynamic coupling control of the cavity field and mirror can be realized by periodically modulating the amplitudes of the two incident laser fields. Compared to the unmodulated case, the periodic modulation of the laser fields in a cavity-optomechanical system embedded with a small number of atoms has the capability to enhance the entanglement between the two cavity fields and mirror. This scheme provides a new approach to the generation and control of entanglement in cavity-optomechanical systems.

Entanglement beating in a cavity optomechanical system under two-field driving

Chang‐Sheng Hu, Zhiqiang Liu, Ye Liu +3 more

An optomechanical cavity driven by a periodically amplitude-modulated laser can generate steady light-mechanical entanglement with time periodicity. Similar results can be alternatively obtained by pumping an especially tuned optical degenerate parametric amplifier (DPA) inside the cavity. While the two laser beams are simultaneously applied, the optomechanical entanglement can exhibit constructive and destructive interference patterns, depending on their cooperative phase, which further gives rise to beating in entanglement dynamics if the two modulation frequencies are slightly different, followed by a beating frequency-dependent dynamical behavior in the energy exchange between light and a mechanical oscillator. The optimal dynamical entanglement goes beyond what is attainable by the scenario with two superimposed cavity drivings, as a result of the specially DPA-modulated quantum dynamics. Moreover, we calculate correlation spectra between the cavity and mechanical modes, and we find correspondence between the light-oscillator entanglement and the correlation spectra under the cooperative effect. The cooperation-enhanced optomechanical entanglement is robust against the thermal temperature, and is potentially useful for continuous variable quantum information processing.

Optical response properties and bipartite entanglement in a hybrid optomechanical system assisted by Kerr-nonlinearity and amplitude modulated drive field

Surabhi Yadav, Vijay Bhatt, Aranya B. Bhattacherjee +1 more

Abstract We theoretically investigate the optomechanical interaction between an optical field and a mechanical mode mediated by a Kerr nonlinear medium inside an optical cavity and simultaneously driven by an external amplitude-modulated pump field and a probe field. We show that switching between bistability and multistability is influenced by the rocking parameter and Kerr nonlinearity. Further, we study the quantum fluctuation dynamics of the system, which shows the quantum coherence and interference effects resulting in the transmission of the probe field from opacity to amplification. We also find that the rocking parameter, Kerr nonlinearity, and the optomechanical coupling influence the transmission spectrum. In addition, we also show that the rocking parameter significantly enhances the optomechanical coupling, which can be a new handle to control the entanglement between the optical and mechanical modes. The results show that such a hybrid optomechanical system has potential application in designing and optimizing all-optical switching and optical sensors.

Optical bistability and absorption characteristic of an optomechanical system embedded with double quantum dot and nonlinear medium

Surabhi Yadav, Vijay Bhatt, Aranya B. Bhattacherjee +2 more

Abstract Objective: This paper theoretically studies a hybrid optomechanical system embedded with two coupled quantum dots (CQDs) and a third-order Kerr nonlinear medium inside the cavity. The optical bistability and absorption spectrum are analyzed for the proposed system. Methods: From the Hamiltonian which describes the proposed system, a set of quantum Langevin equations are derived. Using these equations of motion, the steady-state mean field analysis is done which gives the phenomena of optical bistability. The performance of the optical switch is also analyzed in terms of gain and switching ratio. Further, the absorption spectrum of the system is derived and analyzed from the fluctuation dynamics. Results: The optical bistability has the potential to design tunable all-optical switches. The absorption spectra display peculiar characteristics of negative absorption (transparency dip). The transparency dips are found to be strongly dependent on the frequency of the mechanical resonator. The results of our investigation reveal that the proposed system can be used as an optical switch and has numerous other applications in quantum communication systems.

Controllable bistable optical switch and normal mode splitting in hybrid optomechanical semiconductor microcavity containing single quantum dot driven by amplitude modulated field

Vijay Bhatt, Sabur A. Barbhuiya, Pradip K. Jha +1 more

Abstract We theoretically explore optical bistability for the possible signature of all-optical switching and their performance in a hybrid quantum optomechanical system comprising of two semiconductor microcavities coupled optically. One of the cavity is driven by an external amplitude-modulated pump laser while the second cavity, which contains a quantum dot (QD), is indirectly driven by light transmitted from the first cavity and a transverse optical field. The generated bistable behavior due to optomechanical nonlinearity shows a typical optical switching behavior and it can be controlled by changing the laser power, QD cavity coupling, modulating amplitude/frequency and the optomechanical coupling. A clear signature of energy exchange between the mechanical and optical modes is visible from the mechanical displacement spectrum. These results suggest that the present system can be used in sensitive optical switches and optical sensors.

Enhancement of entanglement in distant mechanical vibrations via modulation in a coupled optomechanical system

Rongxin Chen, Li-Tuo Shen, Zhen‐Biao Yang +2 more

We consider a coupled cavity optomechanical setup driven by a periodically modulated pump. We investigate the asymptotic behaviors of Heisenberg operator mean values and mechanical entanglement. It is shown that the system will acquire the same period of the modulation in the long time limit and, compared to the no modulation case, the mechanical entanglement can be significantly enhanced by periodic driving with more conservative system parameters and a higher permitted bath temperature. The mechanism of entanglement generation is discussed and an approximate optimal modulation frequency for small effective coupling is derived.
