Abstract

We consider a coupled cavity optomechanical setup driven by a periodically modulated pump. We investigate the asymptotic behaviors of Heisenberg operator mean values and mechanical entanglement. It is shown that the system will acquire the same period of the modulation in the long time limit and, compared to the no modulation case, the mechanical entanglement can be significantly enhanced by periodic driving with more conservative system parameters and a higher permitted bath temperature. The mechanism of entanglement generation is discussed and an approximate optimal modulation frequency for small effective coupling is derived.

Enhancement of steady-state bosonic squeezing and entanglement in a dissipative optomechanical system

Chang-Geng Liao, Hong Xie, Xiao Shang +2 more

We systematically study the influence of amplitude modulation on the steady-state bosonic squeezing and entanglement in a dissipative three-mode optomechanical system, where a vibrational mode of the membrane is coupled to the left and right cavity modes via the radiation pressure. Numerical simulation results show that the steady-state bosonic squeezing and entanglement can be significantly enhanced by periodically modulated external laser driving either or both ends of the cavity. Remarkably, the fact that as long as one periodically modulated external laser driving either end of the cavities is sufficient to enhance the squeezing and entanglement is convenient for actual experiment, whose cost is that required modulation period number for achieving system stability is more. In addition, we numerically confirm the analytical prediction for optimal modulation frequency and discuss the corresponding physical mechanism.

Entanglement beating in a cavity optomechanical system under two-field driving

Chang‐Sheng Hu, Zhiqiang Liu, Ye Liu +3 more

An optomechanical cavity driven by a periodically amplitude-modulated laser can generate steady light-mechanical entanglement with time periodicity. Similar results can be alternatively obtained by pumping an especially tuned optical degenerate parametric amplifier (DPA) inside the cavity. While the two laser beams are simultaneously applied, the optomechanical entanglement can exhibit constructive and destructive interference patterns, depending on their cooperative phase, which further gives rise to beating in entanglement dynamics if the two modulation frequencies are slightly different, followed by a beating frequency-dependent dynamical behavior in the energy exchange between light and a mechanical oscillator. The optimal dynamical entanglement goes beyond what is attainable by the scenario with two superimposed cavity drivings, as a result of the specially DPA-modulated quantum dynamics. Moreover, we calculate correlation spectra between the cavity and mechanical modes, and we find correspondence between the light-oscillator entanglement and the correlation spectra under the cooperative effect. The cooperation-enhanced optomechanical entanglement is robust against the thermal temperature, and is potentially useful for continuous variable quantum information processing.

Enhancement on quantum synchronization of directly coupled optomechanical oscillators via periodic modulations

Chu-Hui Fan, Lei Du, Han-Xiao Zhang +1 more

Abstract We study a double-cavity optomechanical system with two movable mirrors acting as mechanical oscillators coupled via a common girder. The fluctuation parts of mechanical oscillations induced by vacuum noises exhibit a limited quantum synchronization owing to the Heisenberg uncertainty. Exerting periodic modulations on the driving lasers or mechanical oscillators, we find that it is viable to attain a 50% ∼ 75% enhancement on this quantum synchronization with appropriate modulation frequencies and amplitudes. A direct comparison shows that the optimal modulations on driving lasers are more favorable than the optimal modulations on mechanical oscillators in that the former could result in a greater enhancement than the latter. Our findings should be instructive for further studies on multi-cavity optomechanical systems to pursue a promising platform for quantum information processing.

Modulation‐Based Atom‐Mirror Entanglement and Mechanical Squeezing in an Unresolved‐Sideband Optomechanical System

Cheng‐Hua Bai, Dongyang Wang, Shou Zhang +2 more

Abstract A hybrid optomechanical system which is composed of an atomic ensemble and a standard optomechanical cavity driven by a periodically modulated external laser field is investigated. Based on the simple periodic modulation forms of the driving amplitude and effective optomechanical coupling, respectively, the atom‐mirror entanglement is discussed in detail. It is found that the maximum of the entanglement in the unresolved‐sideband regime can be further enhanced compared with the non‐modulation regime. On the other hand, we find that the introduction of the atomic ensemble permits the mechanical squeezing induced by the periodic amplitude modulation can be successfully generated even in the unresolved‐sideband regime. Due to the self‐cooling mechanism constructed by the atomic ensemble, the mechanical squeezing scheme no longer requires the extra precooling technologies.

Enhancement of tripartite entanglement via periodically modulated fields with an atom-assisted optomechanical system

Jiaxin Wen, Yi Lu, Zhenghong Li +1 more

Abstract We propose a model for controlling and enhancing the entanglement between the two cavity fields and mirror with a hybrid optomechanical system consisting of Λ-type three-level 85Rb atomic ensembles driven by two externally modulated laser fields. When one (another) cavity mode is driven at the red (blue) mechanical sideband and both cavity modes are blue-detuned by the mechanical frequency to the respective atomic resonant transitions, the dynamic coupling control of the cavity field and mirror can be realized by periodically modulating the amplitudes of the two incident laser fields. Compared to the unmodulated case, the periodic modulation of the laser fields in a cavity-optomechanical system embedded with a small number of atoms has the capability to enhance the entanglement between the two cavity fields and mirror. This scheme provides a new approach to the generation and control of entanglement in cavity-optomechanical systems.

Strong mechanical squeezing and optomechanical entanglement in a dissipative double-cavity system via pump modulation

Wen-Jie Zhang, Yuchi Zhang, Qi Guo +3 more

We consider a dissipative cavity optomechanical system which couples to an auxiliary cavity with a high-quality factor and is driven by an amplitude-modulated laser field. Due to the introduction of the auxiliary cavity, we find that the steady-state mechanical squeezing can be enhanced compared to the case without an auxiliary cavity and the so-called 3 dB limit can also be broken in the resolved-sideband regime. Moreover, the squeezing can also be achieved even in the unresolved-sideband regime. We study the optomechanical entanglement in the presented system. It is found that the enhanced entanglement can be obtained by introducing the auxiliary cavity, and the entanglement can also be generated in the unresolved-sideband regime for appropriate system parameters. Numerical results show that the presented schemes have strong robustness against the thermal noise acting on the mechanical mode.
