Abstract

We consider a dissipative cavity optomechanical system which couples to an auxiliary cavity with a high-quality factor and is driven by an amplitude-modulated laser field. Due to the introduction of the auxiliary cavity, we find that the steady-state mechanical squeezing can be enhanced compared to the case without an auxiliary cavity and the so-called 3 dB limit can also be broken in the resolved-sideband regime. Moreover, the squeezing can also be achieved even in the unresolved-sideband regime. We study the optomechanical entanglement in the presented system. It is found that the enhanced entanglement can be obtained by introducing the auxiliary cavity, and the entanglement can also be generated in the unresolved-sideband regime for appropriate system parameters. Numerical results show that the presented schemes have strong robustness against the thermal noise acting on the mechanical mode.

Entanglement enhancement in a modulated optomechanical system via squeezed vacuum field

Abstract We present a double-cavity optomechanical system with a mechanical oscillator, which is jointly driven by an amplitude-modulated laser field and a weak squeezed vacuum field, aiming to explore quantum entanglement effects under the unresolved-sideband regime. Within our proposed scheme, it is possible not only to surpass the limit of maximum steady-state entanglement ln2 for bipartite entanglement, achieving strong entanglement, but also to significantly enhance tripartite entanglement and improve the system’s robustness against thermal noise. Meanwhile, the introduction of the squeezed vacuum field plays a crucial role in entanglement control, enabling not only a several-fold enhancement of entanglement but also continuous and precise manipulation of its strength within specific ranges. The suggested method demonstrates exceptional flexibility and adaptability under a wide range of operating conditions, offering a new pathway for theoretical and experimental investigations of strong bipartite entanglement and tripartite entanglement.

Mechanical Squeezing via Pump Modulation in a Double‐Cavity Optomechanical System With Optical Parametric Amplifier

Haotian Wu, Ping‐Chi Ge, Xue Yan Han +2 more

Abstract A novel and efficient method is proposed for generating mechanical squeezing in a double‐cavity optomechanical system by introducing an optical parametric amplifier (OPA) with pump modulation (PM). The combined effects of periodic amplitude modulation of the driving laser and the OPA enable mechanical squeezing in both the resolved‐sideband and unresolved‐sideband regimes, with significantly enhanced squeezing observed in the resolved‐sideband regime. The individual contributions of the OPA and PM to mechanical squeezing is systematically investigated, with results indicating that PM plays a more dominant role. Additionally, the proposed scheme demonstrates excellent robustness against environmental thermal noise. These findings highlight the potential of this approach for advancing quantum precision measurements and exploring macroscopic quantum phenomena.

Improving macroscopic entanglement with nonlocal mechanical squeezing

Chang‐Sheng Hu, Xinyu Lin, Li-Tuo Shen +4 more

We report an efficient mechanism to generate mechanical entanglement in a two-cascaded cavity optomechanical system with optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs) inside the two coupled cavities. We use the especially tuned OPAs to squeeze the hybrid mode composed of two mechanical modes, leading to strong macroscopic entanglement between the two movable mirrors. The squeezing parameter as well as the effective mechanical damping are both modulated by the OPA gains. The optimal degree of mechanical entanglement therefore depends on the balanced process between coherent hybrid mode squeezing and dissipation engineering. The mechanical entanglement is robust to strong cavity decay, going beyond simply resolved sideband regime, and is resistant to reasonable high thermal noise. The scheme provides an alternative way for generating strong macroscopic entanglement in cascaded optomechanical systems.

Strong mechanical squeezing in an unresolved-sideband optomechanical system

Rong Zhang, Yinan Fang, Yangyang Wang +2 more

We study how strong mechanical squeezing (beyond 3 dB) can be achieved through reservoir engineering in an optomechanical system which is far from the resolved-sideband regime. In our proposed setup, the effect of unwanted counter-rotating terms is suppressed by quantum interference from two auxiliary cavities. In the weak coupling regime, we develop an analytical treatment based on the effective master equation approach, which allows us to obtain explicitly the condition of maximum squeezing.

Generating squeezing and enhancing entanglement in an opto-magnomechanical system via pump modulation

Qi Guo, Jinglan Liu, Cheng‐Hua Bai +3 more

We propose schemes for generating quantum squeezing and enhancing entanglement in an opto-magnomechanical configuration by periodically modulating the driving field. The system consists of an optical cavity and a ferrimagnetic yttrium-iron-garnet micro-bridge supporting a magnon mode and a mechanical vibration mode, in which the mechanical mode couples to the optical mode and the magnon mode via radiation pressure and magnetostrictive interaction, respectively. The optical mode and the magnon mode are driven by classical fields, and the amplitude of the laser field driving the optical cavity is periodically modulated. We find that when the classical fields are red-detuned and their anti-Stokes sidebands scattered by the mechanical motion resonate with the corresponding driven modes, all the modes in the system will be squeezed simultaneously, and the mechanical squeezing can exceed the 3-dB limit. Furthermore, when the driving laser field is red-detuned and the microwave field is blue-detuned, both the bipartite and tripartite entanglements will be generated, and compared to the case without periodical modulation, the entanglements are significantly enhanced. We also show that the schemes have strong robustness against the system dissipations and environmental temperature. Our schemes may provide efficient quantum resources for quantum precision measurement and quantum information processing.

Abstract Different from the general schemes of two‐mode mechanical squeezing, a dissipative scheme to generate strong and robust two‐mode mechanical squeezing via frequency modulation of cavity modes in a cavity optomechanical system consisting of a modulated two‐mode optical cavity and two mechanical oscillators is proposed. It is shown that the strong mechanical squeezing, which is highly robust against the thermal noise, can be engineered by means of cavity dissipation. Moreover, the squeezing mechanism is explored via analytical approach and it is found that the squeezing direction is controlled by modulation amplitude. The scheme provides an alternative pathway to generate strong mechanical–mechanical entanglement.
