Abstract

We study how strong mechanical squeezing (beyond 3 dB) can be achieved through reservoir engineering in an optomechanical system which is far from the resolved-sideband regime. In our proposed setup, the effect of unwanted counter-rotating terms is suppressed by quantum interference from two auxiliary cavities. In the weak coupling regime, we develop an analytical treatment based on the effective master equation approach, which allows us to obtain explicitly the condition of maximum squeezing.

Reservoir-engineered entanglement in an unresolved-sideband optomechanical system

Abstract We study theoretically the generation of strong entanglement of two mechanical oscillators in an unresolved-sideband optomechanical cavity, using a reservoir engineering approach. In our proposal, the effect of unwanted counter-rotating terms is suppressed via destructive quantum interference by the optical field of two auxiliary cavities. For arbitrary values of the optomechanical interaction, the entanglement is obtained numerically. In the weak-coupling regime, we derive an analytical expression for the entanglement of the two mechanical oscillators based on an effective master equation, and obtain the optimal parameters to achieve strong entanglement. Our analytical results are in accord with numerical simulations.

Strong Squeezing of Duffing Oscillator in a Highly Dissipative Optomechanical Cavity System

Biao Xiong, Xun Li, Shi‐Lei Chao +3 more

Abstract In the conventional scheme of generating strong mechanical squeezing by the joint effect between mechanical parametric amplification and sideband cooling, the resolved sideband condition is required so as to overcome the quantum backaction heating. In the unresolved sideband regime, to suppress the quantum backaction, a χ(2) nonlinear medium is introduced to the cavity. The result shows that the quantum backaction heating effect caused by unwanted counter‐rotating term can be completely removed. Hence, the strong mechanical squeezing can be obtained even for the system far from the resolved‐sideband regime.

Large mechanical squeezing beyond 3dB of hybrid atom-optomechanical systems in a highly unresolved sideband regime

Jian-Song Zhang, Aixi Chen

We propose a scheme for the generation of strong mechanical squeezing beyond 3dB in hybrid atom-optomechanical systems in the highly unresolved sideband (HURSB) regime where the decay rate of cavity is much larger than the frequency of the mechanical oscillator. The system is formed by two two-level atomic ensembles and an optomechanical system with cavity driven by two lasers with different amplitudes. In the HURSB regime, the squeezing of the movable mirror can not be larger than 3dB if no atomic ensemble or only one atomic ensemble is put into the optomechanical system. However, if two atomic ensembles are put into the optomechanical system, the strong mechanical squeezing beyond 3dB is achieved even in the HURSB regime. Our scheme paves the way toward the implementation of strong mechanical squeezing beyond 3dB in hybrid atom-optomechanical systems in experiments.

Strong mechanical squeezing and optomechanical entanglement in a dissipative double-cavity system via pump modulation

Wen-Jie Zhang, Yuchi Zhang, Qi Guo +3 more

We consider a dissipative cavity optomechanical system which couples to an auxiliary cavity with a high-quality factor and is driven by an amplitude-modulated laser field. Due to the introduction of the auxiliary cavity, we find that the steady-state mechanical squeezing can be enhanced compared to the case without an auxiliary cavity and the so-called 3 dB limit can also be broken in the resolved-sideband regime. Moreover, the squeezing can also be achieved even in the unresolved-sideband regime. We study the optomechanical entanglement in the presented system. It is found that the enhanced entanglement can be obtained by introducing the auxiliary cavity, and the entanglement can also be generated in the unresolved-sideband regime for appropriate system parameters. Numerical results show that the presented schemes have strong robustness against the thermal noise acting on the mechanical mode.

Enhanced mechanical entanglement in a hybrid optomechanical system via reservoir engineering

Yangyang Wang, Lang-Yue Duan, Xiaohai Zheng +1 more

Abstract Mechanical entanglement serves as the crucial resource in quantum information processing. In this scheme, we investigate mechanical entanglement via reservoir engineering in a highly unresolved-sideband optomechanical system assisted by two nitrogen vacancy centers ensembles (NVEs). We demonstrate that strong mechanical entanglement can be generated under appropriate system parameters even in the highly unresolved-sideband regime. Notably, mechanical entanglement emerges only in the resolved-sideband regime without NVEs, while it arises even in the highly unresolved-sideband regime upon coupling with the NVEs. This enhancement stems from the two NVEs effectively suppressing undesirable counter-rotating terms through destructive quantum interference. Meanwhile, a small frequency difference between two mechanical oscillators can enhance mechanical entanglement. Our scheme mitigates the stringent parameter requirements imposed on hybrid optomechanical systems in experimental settings and offers a novel approach for generating strong entanglement in solid-state quantum information processing.

Highly Squeezed Mechanical State Generation in an Optomechanical System Assisted by Nitrogen‐Vacancy Ensembles

Yangyang Wang, Qian Liu

ABSTRACT Narrow linewidth and macroscopically accessible mechanical microstructures make mechanical squeezing a promising platform for ultra‐high‐sensitivity detection and fundamental investigations of classical‐to‐quantum quantum effects. The conventional approaches to utilizing optomechanical interactions for generating mechanical squeezing are restricted to the resolved‐sideband regime, limiting their practical applicability. In this paper, we propose a scheme to generate a highly squeezed mechanical state in both resolved‐ and unresolved‐sideband optomechanical systems assisted by nitrogen‐vacancy ensembles (NVEs). By coupling two NVEs to the optical cavity, the detrimental counter‐rotating terms that degrade mechanical squeezing are efficiently suppressed via destructive quantum interference originating from the NVEs‐cavity coupling channels. Numerical results reveal that mechanical squeezing exhibits non‐monotonic behavior with respect to both the optomechanical coupling ratio and the cavity‐spin coupling strength. Moreover, the achievable degree of mechanical squeezing degrades as the initial thermal‐phonon occupation of the mechanical resonator and the dissipation rates of the NVEs increase. This work offers an alternative feasible pathway toward strong mechanical squeezing beyond the 3‐dB limit and broadens the application scope of hybrid solid‐state‐optomechanical quantum systems.
