Abstract

Abstract We propose a model for controlling and enhancing the entanglement between the two cavity fields and mirror with a hybrid optomechanical system consisting of Λ-type three-level 85Rb atomic ensembles driven by two externally modulated laser fields. When one (another) cavity mode is driven at the red (blue) mechanical sideband and both cavity modes are blue-detuned by the mechanical frequency to the respective atomic resonant transitions, the dynamic coupling control of the cavity field and mirror can be realized by periodically modulating the amplitudes of the two incident laser fields. Compared to the unmodulated case, the periodic modulation of the laser fields in a cavity-optomechanical system embedded with a small number of atoms has the capability to enhance the entanglement between the two cavity fields and mirror. This scheme provides a new approach to the generation and control of entanglement in cavity-optomechanical systems.

Enhanced multipartite entanglement via quantum coherence with an atom-assisted optomechanical system

Xihua Yang, Jiaqi Liu, Xiaona Yan +1 more

Abstract We present a scheme to significantly enhance multipartite entanglement with an atom-assisted single-cavity optomechanical system. By embedding an ensemble of Λ-type three-level atoms into the cavity, the stationary tripartite entanglement among two longitudinal cavity modes and a mirror oscillation mode can be greatly enhanced due to quantum coherence induced between the two lower atomic states when one (another) cavity mode is driven at the red (blue) mechanical sideband, and both cavity modes are blue-detuned by the mechanical frequency to the respective atomic resonant transitions; moreover, strong light–light–atom–mirror quadripartite entanglement can also be obtained. The present hybrid system can serve as a promising platform for realizing various quantum protocols, and may find potential applications in quantum information processing and quantum networks.

Modulation‐Based Atom‐Mirror Entanglement and Mechanical Squeezing in an Unresolved‐Sideband Optomechanical System

Cheng‐Hua Bai, Dongyang Wang, Shou Zhang +2 more

Abstract A hybrid optomechanical system which is composed of an atomic ensemble and a standard optomechanical cavity driven by a periodically modulated external laser field is investigated. Based on the simple periodic modulation forms of the driving amplitude and effective optomechanical coupling, respectively, the atom‐mirror entanglement is discussed in detail. It is found that the maximum of the entanglement in the unresolved‐sideband regime can be further enhanced compared with the non‐modulation regime. On the other hand, we find that the introduction of the atomic ensemble permits the mechanical squeezing induced by the periodic amplitude modulation can be successfully generated even in the unresolved‐sideband regime. Due to the self‐cooling mechanism constructed by the atomic ensemble, the mechanical squeezing scheme no longer requires the extra precooling technologies.

Enhancement of the entanglement of two output fields via an atom-assisted optomechanical system without adiabatic elimination

Yi Lu, Zheng-Hong Li, Xihua Yang

The entanglement of two output fields generated by a hybrid system consisting of an ensemble of Λ-type three-level atoms placed inside a conventional cavity optomechanical system is investigated without adiabatic elimination of the atomic operators. We show that the entanglement between two output fields can be enhanced significantly by introducing a suitable number of atoms in the cavity optomechanical system as compared to the case without atoms under realistic experimental conditions. A high-finesse cavity is more favourable than a low-finesse one for entangling two output fields in such a hybrid system. In addition, keeping a low dephasing rate of the atomic lower doublet and a low-temperature environment of the movable mirror are crucial to the generation of entanglement between two output fields. This hybrid system provides new perspectives for quantum interfaces and may find potential applications for quantum information processing with continuous variables.

Generation of the mechanical Schrödinger cat state in a hybrid atom-optomechanical system

Najmeh Etehadi Abari, M. H. Naderi

In this paper, we propose a new theoretical scheme for generating a macroscopic Schrödinger cat state of a mechanical oscillator in a hybrid optomechanical system where a beam of two-level atoms passes through the cavity. In the model under consideration, the cavity field couples to the macroscopic mirror through the optomechanical interaction while it couples to the atom through a generalized Jaynes–Cummings interaction that involves the cavity-mode structure. The motion of the mirror modifies the cavity-mode function and therefore modulates the atom-field interaction, leading to the three-mode atom-field-mirror coupling or, equivalently, polariton-mirror coupling in a dressed picture. This interaction induces a controllable anharmonicity in the energy spectrum of the mechanical oscillator, which provides the possibility of generating a superposition of two time-dependent coherent states of the mechanical oscillator just by performing a conditional measurement on the internal states of the atoms exiting the optomechanical cavity. We also investigate the tripartite atom-field-mirror entanglement, which is controllable by adjusting the parameters of the system. In addition, we explore the effects of the mechanical dissipation and thermal noise on the tripartite quantum correlation in the system as well as the generated mechanical superposition state.

Manipulating the steady-state entanglement via three-level atoms in a hybrid levitated optomechanical system

Guoyao Li, Wenjie Nie, Yu Xi Wu +3 more

We theoretically investigate the generation of steady-state entanglement in a levitated optomechanical system with a cascade three-level atomic medium and a dielectric nanosphere. There are two cavity modes, driven by two external laser beams with different frequencies, which are responsible for trapping and cooling the nanosphere. Atoms prepared in coherent superposition are injected into the cavity to manipulate the optical fields and the effective optomechanical coupling. We show that the entanglement between the nanosphere and the cavity modes can be enhanced by selecting properly the initial population of the lower atomic level. In particular, when the atoms are prepared at that level, the corresponding optomechanical entanglement increases with the increase of the atom-field coupling strength. We also investigate in detail the influence of the effective cavity field detunings, the atomic detunings, the driving power, and the nanosphere's radius and found that there exist optimal values of the effective cavity field detuning and the driving power that maximize the optomechanical entanglement. By selecting the system's parameters properly, we further demonstrate the generation of genuine tripartite entanglement between three degrees of freedom in the system. The findings here may help flexible control of the steady-state entanglement in hybrid optomechanical systems.

Electromagnetically and optomechanically induced transparency and amplification in an atom-assisted cavity optomechanical system

He Hao, Mark C. Kuzyk, Juanjuan Ren +7 more

We propose an atom-assisted cavity optomechanical system consisting of a single $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$-type three-level atom, a mechanical resonator, and a sideband-driven cavity. The analytic expression of the system's evolution is constructed under the consideration of sideband-driven fields, then steady-state solution of electromagnetically and optomechanically induced transparency and amplification is presented. In the resolved red sideband case, we demonstrate the appearance of electromagnetically and optomechanically induced transparency when the two sets of two-photon resonances are satisfied. Moreover, we set up the eigenstate structure for this atom-assisted cavity optomechanical system, which gives an explicit explanation for the mechanism of the transparency. In the resolved blue sideband case, we can achieve the controllable amplification of the probe light, which is induced by the constructive interactions of photon, atom, and phonon. The proposed scheme offers insight for the tripartite coherent interaction among photons, atoms, and phonons, which will provide great flexibility for phonon storage and motivate the development of quantum information processing.
