Abstract

The authors of the paper select and subsequently structurise the content of training in the construction of classical decompositions of single-qubit quantum gates, used in teaching the “Quantum Computing and Programming in the QCL Language” section of the training course “Applied Programming in High-Level Languages” to students of the Institute of Information Technologies and Technology Education (3rd year, Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia).

THE CONTENT OF STEM TRAINING IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF CLASSICAL DECOMPOSITIONS OF QUANTUM GATES

Tatiana S. Smirnova, Mikhail V. Shvetskiy

The article clarifies the content of training in the construction of controlled quantum gates using twelve decompositions of single-qubit quantum gates (Z-Y, Z-X, X-Y, Y-Z, X-Z, Y-X; Z-Y-X, Z-X-Y, X-Y-Z, X-Z-Y, Y-X-Z, Y-Z-X), consisting in a detailed proof of two theorems that make it possible to construct these decompositions much faster. The obtained results are used in the process of teaching the section “Quantum Computing and Big Data” of the “Big Data” course to students of the Institute of Information Systems and Telecommunications (3rd year, Herzen State Pedagogical University).

Mikhail V. Shvetskiy, Irina Kudryavtseva

The article presents the content, methods and means of STEM teaching of important elements of quantum circuitry in the course on quantum computing for 3rd-year students of the Institute of Information Technologies and Technological Education (Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia), namely: teaching the generation of generalised quantum states GHZn gen и Wn gen. At the same time, the content of training implies the joint use of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Quantum Programming Methods: Approaches to the Formation of Ontology and Formalization of the Modern Computing Paradigm in the Educational Process

A. A. Kryuchkov, Maxim Andreevich Knyazev

The article confirms the increasing level of involvement of the international community in the development of quantum technologies. In the scientific space in the domestic segment, the authors have identified a significant lag between the level and quality of existing educational programs of higher educational institutions in relation to international practical achievements in the field of development and programming of quantum computing devices. In order to eliminate the existing scientific and methodological gap, it is recommended to introduce relevant subjects into the educational programs of enlarged groups of training areas 09.00.00 and 10.00.00 as separate disciplines, or into already existing [disciplines], and expand them to study the possibilities of quantum programming methods. Based on their own teaching experience, the authors propose a possible strategy for making appropriate changes, as well as options for adjusting the work programs of disciplines that include tasks for programming quantum computing devices.

GENERALISED QUANTUM STATES WNGEN IN THE PROCESS OF STEM TEACHING IN QUANTUM CIRCUITRY

Mikhail V. Shvetskiy

The article presents the content, methods and means of STEM teaching of elements of quantum circuitry in the course on quantum computing for third-year students majoring in information systems at the Institute of Information Technology and Technological Education (Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia). Namely, the teaching content includes algorithms for creating quantum circuits for constructing a quantum state from its complex amplitudes and vectors of basic states. Algorithms use QRAM quantum memory, whose address register contains the Wngen state, as well as the uncomputing quantum programming technology; in this case, intricate quantum states Wn and Wngen are essentially used. The content of training implies the joint use of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Lectures on Quantum Mechanics for Mathematics Students

L. D. Faddeev, O. Yakubovskiĭ

This book is based on notes from the course developed and taught for more than 30 years at the Department of Mathematics of Leningrad University. The goal of the course was to present the basics of quantum mechanics and its mathematical content to students in mathematics. This book differs from the majority of other textbooks on the subject in that much more attention is paid to general principles of quantum mechanics. In particular, the authors describe in detail the relation between classical and quantum mechanics. When selecting particular topics, the authors emphasize those that are related to interesting mathematical theories. In particular, the book contains a discussion of problems related to group representation theory and to scattering theory. This book is rather elementary and concise, and it does not require prerequisites beyond the standard undergraduate mathematical curriculum. It is aimed at giving a mathematically oriented student the opportunity to grasp the main points of quantum theory in a mathematical framework.

The Physics of Two-Qubit Gates

Asma Al-Qasimi, Daniel F. V. James

Important concepts from the diverse fields of physics, mathematics, engineering and computer science coalesce in this foundational text on the cutting-edge field of quantum information. Designed for undergraduate and graduate students with any STEM background, and written by a highly experienced author team, this textbook draws on quantum mechanics, number theory, computer science technologies, and more, to delve deeply into learning about qubits, the building blocks of quantum information, and how they are used in quantum computing and quantum algorithms. The pedagogical structure of the chapters features exercises after each section as well as focus boxes, giving students the benefit of additional background and applications without losing sight of the big picture. Recommended further reading and answers to select exercises further support learning. Written in approachable and conversational prose, this text offers a comprehensive treatment of the exciting field of quantum information while remaining accessible to students and researchers within all STEM disciplines.
