Abstract

It is well known that squeezed states can be produced by nonlinear optical processes, such as parametric amplification and four wave mixing, in which two photons are created or annihilated simultaneously. Since the Hamiltonian of the dynamic Casimir effect contains a 2 and a +2, photons in such a process are also generated or annihilated in pairs. Here we propose to get squeezed light through the dynamic Casimir effect. Specifically, we demonstrate it from the full quantum perspective and the semiclassical perspective successively. Different from previous work, we focus on generating squeezed states with the lowest average photon number, because such squeezed states have better quantum properties. For the full quantum picture, that is, phonons also have quantum properties, when the system is initially in the excited state of phonons, squeezed light cannot be generated during the evolution, but the light field can collapse to the squeezed state by measuring the state of phonons. When the phonon is treated as a classical quantity, that is, the cavity wall is continuously driven, squeezed light with the minimum average photon number will be generated in the case of off-resonance. This will play a positive role in better regulating the photon state generated by the dynamic Casimir system in the future.

Generation of atomic-squeezed states via dynamical Casimir effect

Neha Aggarwal, Aranya B. Bhattacherjee, Arup Banerjee

We investigate the generation of atomic-squeezed states due to the dynamical Casimir effect in a lossless optomechanical cavity containing a Bose-Einstein Condensate. In particular, we study the combined effect of dynamical Casimir effect and nonlinear atomic interaction on spin-squeezing for the three special cases- initial cavity field in coherent state, squeezed vaccum state and squeezed state. We show that the dynamical Casimir effect plays a significant role in producing the squeezed-spin states by producing squeezed states of the optical field which is then transferred to the condensate atoms. We further show that the maximum spin-squeezing is obtained in the case of initial cavity field prepared in the squeezed state.

Two schemes for characterization and detection of the squeezed light: dynamical Casimir effect and nonlinear materials

H Lotfipour, Z Allameh, R Roknizadeh +1 more

Abstract Using two different schemes, a non-classical-squeezed state of light is detected and characterized. In the first scheme, in a one-dimensional cavity with a moving mirror (non-stationary Casimir effect) in the principal mode, we study the photon generation rate for two modes (squeezed and coherent state) of a driving field. Since the cavity with the moving mirror (similar to an optomechanical system) can be considered an analogue to a Kerr-like medium, in the second scheme, the probability amplitude for multi-photon absorption in a nonlinear (Kerr) medium will be quantum mechanically calculated. It is shown that because of the presence of nonlinear effects, the responses of these two systems to the squeezed versus coherent state are considerably distinguishable. The drastic difference between the results of these two states of light can be viewed as a proposal for detecting non-classical states.

Stimulated Raman scattering with initially nonclassical light

Jan Peřina

Nonclassical light is now available in a number oflaboratories, being generated by Frank—Hertz experiment, optical parametric processes, four-wave mixing including optical fibres, by optical system with feedback, etc. Therefore it is senseful to reconsider various nonlinear optical interactions involving initially nonclassical light ,originally solved with coherent (laser) light. Adopting tools of quasidistributions related to antinormal ordering, the photocount distributions, its factorial moments and characteristics of squeezing of vacuum fluctuations can be investigated assuming initially nonclassical (squeezed) light in the framework of the Heisenberg—Langevin of Schrödinger approaches. Photon statistics of stimulated Raman scattering of squeezed light can be derived assuming phonon system in chaotic, coherent or squeezed states and including additive noise. The influence of nonlinear dynamics can be established on initially inclassical light and it can be shown that the initially nonclassical effects are encresed by the nonlinear dynamics provided that the Stokes mode is less amplified than the anti-Stokes mode is damped, whereas in the opposite case the nonclassical features are smoothed out. Also frequency detuning can be optimized to have maximum nonclassical effects, which are missing with increasing phonon number, even if the phonon system is squeezed. Small initial squeezing can by increased by the nonlinear dynamics, whereas strong squeezing can only be diminished.

Strong squeezing via phonon mediated spontaneous generation of photon pairs

Kenan Qu, G. S. Agarwal

We propose a scheme for generating squeezed light by using a double-cavity optomechanical system driven by a blue detuned laser in one cavity and by a red detuned laser in the other. This double-cavity system is shown to effectively mimic an interaction that is similar to the one for a downconverter, which is known to be a source of strong squeezing for light fields. There are however distinctions, as the phonons which lead to such an interaction can contribute to the quantum noise. We show that squeezing of the output fields, of the order of 10 dB, can be achieved even for an effective mechanical mode occupation number of about 4, which for the chosen parameters corresponds to 10 mK.Our results are generic and applicable to a wide class of electromechanical and optomechanical systems involving the interaction of two electromagnetic modes and one mechanical mode.

Dynamics and enhancement of nonlinear coupling via squeezing a cavity mode

Yang Gu, Zhong-Ju Liu, Tong-Rui Cui +3 more

Abstract We propose a scheme to enhance nonlinear coupling between a two-mode optical cavity via parametric squeezing. Employing a two-mode squeezed vacuum state, we derive an effective Hamiltonian that reveals enhancement of nonlinear coupling. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the enhanced squeezing will cause the oscillation between the two-mode photon numbers of the system. The dissipation of the system is also considered, that the dissipation has a positive effect on the preparation of steady state via parametric squeezing. The result in our investigation could provide an effective simulation platform for the realization of quantum information process.
