Q-switched iodine laser emitting at two frequencies

An investigation was made of the characteristics of stimulated emission of short light pulses in a transverse magnetic field. Conditions for simultaneous emission at two frequencies corresponding to the F'=3F=4 and F'=2→F=2 transitions. In magnetic fields of 0–800 Oe intensity the frequencies of the σ Zeeman components of the above 3–4 and 2–2 transitions coincided with the central frequencies of the corresponding transitions in the luminescence spectrum of atomic iodine in the absence of a magnetic field.

Characteristics of the stimulated emission from iodine atoms in pulsed magnetic fields

Белоусова Инна Михайловна, B D Bobrov, Valery M. Kiselev +1 more

An investigation was made of the influence of pulsed magnetic fields on the characteristics of the stimulated radiation resulting from the 2 P 1/2 – 2 P 3/2 transition in iodine atoms. It was found that pulsed magnetic fields could be used to modulate the gain and the output power of this iodine laser.

Coherent Pulse Propagation on a Q-branch Transition in Atomic Iodine Vapour

Gan Xu, Terence A. King, J. J. Bannister

Self-induced transparency (SIT) has been observed on a Q(J)-branch transition (J=2) for the first time. Coherent field-matter interaction was studied using a photodissociation atomic iodine laser system operating on the 2P1/2 F=2 →2P3/2 F′=2 magnetic dipole hyperfine transition and a self-resonant iodine vapour. With linearly polarized radiation the propagation phenomena are characterized by high transparency and large time delay at pulse areas θ > π and small-pulse splitting at θ ≃ π. With circularly polarized radiation, non-degenerate SIT is observed. The results can be explained by the dynamic effects of the different dipole moments involved in the process.
