Abstract

We evaluate secrecy outage probability (SOP) of a two-way communication network that uses a half-duplex amplify and forward (AF) relay in a cognitive radio network, where the relay uses two directional antennas. The transmitted signal from the cognitive sources only is eavesdropped by an eavesdropper (EAV) which however fails to eavesdrop relayed signal due to use of directional antennas. A signal from one cognitive source (CS1) acts as a jamming signal for the other at the EAV. A closed form expression for SOP, in the jamming nature of the signals of the cognitive sources, has been developed and impact of several network parameters such as primary transmit power, channel mean power, relay transmit power, and threshold secrecy rate on SOP has been evaluated. Further, MATLAB Simulation has been carried out to validate the analytical results.

Physical Layer Security in Two-Way Wireless Communication System

Shashibhushan Sharma, Sanjay Dhar Roy, Sumit Kundu

We present secrecy performance of a two-way communication (TWC) with a number of amplify and forward (AF) relays in a cognitive radio network (CRN) as well as TWC with the help of DF relays. A TWC with multiple untrusted half-duplex AF relays is set up in an underlay CRN where two sources are not directly connected due to shadowing and path loss. In this cognitive network, two sources share their information to each other over two phases via an intermediate relay selected among multiple AF relays. A power-splitting scheme based energy harvesting from radio frequency signal is considered at the relay. Further, the AF relays are untrusted and eavesdrops the message also. Due to the CRN, the transmit power of the transmitting nodes are controlled under the cognitive constraints such as outage probability threshold of the primary network. Further, the TWC is analyzed with DF relays where an external eavesdropper eavesdrops the message from both the sources but not simultaneously. We have evaluated the physical layer security (PLS) through a metric known as secrecy outage probability (SOP). We have derived SOP in closed-form expression and presented in for both the scenarios of investigations. The analytical results, based on the closed-form expression, are justified by the MATLAB-based simulation results. We observe that PLS increases with an increase in the number of relays, primary network transmit power, and transmit power of the cognitive device. In TWC with DF relays, an optimal value of transmit power of a source and fraction of supply power to the relay are obtained at which secrecy performance is maximized.

Two way secure communication with two half-duplex DF relay

Shashibhushan Sharma, Sanjay Dhar Roy, Sumit Kundu

This paper shows the secrecy performance of a network in which secure two-way communication is possible via two half duplex decode and forward (DF) relays with an eavesdropper (EAV) trying to decode the message. In the absence of direct link from source one (S1) to source two (S2), two-way communication is established in two time phases with the help of two half duplex DF relays, first one is in broadcast phase and second one is in relaying phase and two DF relays are named as DF relay one (DFR1) and DF relay two (DFR2). Each of the two relays is assisted with two directive antennas, one is receiving antenna and the other is transmitting antenna directed towards respective transmitting and receiving nodes. Thus, the EAV only receives the information from both sources only and does not receive the forwarded information signal of the relays. Matlab based simulation results, in terms of secrecy outage probability (SOP), have been shown to validate the results.

Secrecy performance of a two‐way communication network with two half‐duplex DF relays

Shashibhusham Sharma, Sanjay Dhar Roy, Sumit Kundu

In this paper, the authors evaluate the secrecy performance of a two‐way communication network via two half‐duplex decode and forward relays under an eavesdropper attacking. The sources (S1 and S2) communicate with each other via the relays in two phases. Due to the directional antennas at the relay, eavesdropper does not eavesdrop from the relay. The eavesdropper only eavesdrops the message from one of two sources at a time, which has higher strength. The total relay power is divided between two relays. An optimal value of power allocation, which minimises the secrecy outage probability (SOP), is derived under equal and different transmit power of both the sources. The optimal value of transmitting power of S1 is obtained for a fixed value of transmitting power of S2. Performance in terms of the SOP increases with increase in transmit power of the sources, supply power for relays while it may decrease with increase in transmit power of one source beyond its optimal value for a given transmit power of the other source and increase in the threshold of global secrecy rate. They derive a closed‐form expression of SOP of this proposed model. The analytical results are validated by our MATLAB based simulation results

In this paper, the physical layer security in cognitive radio networks (CRNs) is investigated. We consider an underlay relay assisted CRN consisting of multiple secondary sources, multiple-antenna destination, a single relay, and multiple eavesdroppers. The destination node performs the maximal-ratio combining under uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channels. In more details, we consider, a secondary source is randomly selected to transmit its data, and a jammer is chosen from the remaining source nodes to send a jamming signal to the eavesdroppers. The closed-form expression of the secrecy outage probability is derived, based on the statistical characteristics of the communication channels, under the primary user's quality of service constraint. The derived analysis gives deep insights into the impact of network parameters on the performance of on the secrecy outage performance. Analytic results are corroborated through Monte Carlo simulation.

Physical Layer Security of Full-Duplex Two-Way AF Relaying Networks with Optimal Relay Selection

Fang Liu, Jiaojiao Li, Shulan Li +1 more

In this paper, the physical layer security of full-duplex two-way multiple amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying network in the presence of an eavesdropper is analyzed. The closed-form expression of the approximate secrecy outage probability (SOP) based on the optimal relay selection scheme (ORS) in maximizing the secrecy capacity of proposed network is given out. Furthermore, Monte-Carlo simulation results validate the analytical expressions and show that secrecy performance can be impacted by different parameters, including the number of candidate relay and the average power of residual self-interference. The simulation results also show that the full-duplex relaying systems based on optimal relay selection scheme can significantly outperform the conventional single-relay systems and the traditional half-duplex scheme in secrecy performance.

Secrecy outage probability of dual hop amplify and forward relay in presence of an eavesdropper

Gowthamkrishnan Cherukuri, Shashibhushan Sharma, Sanjay Dhar Roy +1 more

In this paper we evaluate the secrecy outage probability (SOP) of an amplify and forward relay (AFR) scheme in presence of a single eavesdropper (EAV). A two hop communication scheme is studied where secrecy is enhanced by transmitting jamming signals from source (S), relay (R) and destination (D). A novel scheme of assisting the confidential information transfer by simultaneous transmission of jamming signal is presented. The source transmit power is appropriately divided for simultaneously transmission of jamming signal and information signal following a power splitting ratio (a). The performance of the scheme is evaluated in terms of secrecy outage probability (SOP) under several conditions of transmission power of source, relay, destination and SNRs of inter node channels. A MATLAB based simulation of our scheme demonstrates significant reduction of SOP.
