Abstract

This paper shows the secrecy performance of a network in which secure two-way communication is possible via two half duplex decode and forward (DF) relays with an eavesdropper (EAV) trying to decode the message. In the absence of direct link from source one (S1) to source two (S2), two-way communication is established in two time phases with the help of two half duplex DF relays, first one is in broadcast phase and second one is in relaying phase and two DF relays are named as DF relay one (DFR1) and DF relay two (DFR2). Each of the two relays is assisted with two directive antennas, one is receiving antenna and the other is transmitting antenna directed towards respective transmitting and receiving nodes. Thus, the EAV only receives the information from both sources only and does not receive the forwarded information signal of the relays. Matlab based simulation results, in terms of secrecy outage probability (SOP), have been shown to validate the results.

Secrecy performance of a two‐way communication network with two half‐duplex DF relays

Shashibhusham Sharma, Sanjay Dhar Roy, Sumit Kundu

In this paper, the authors evaluate the secrecy performance of a two‐way communication network via two half‐duplex decode and forward relays under an eavesdropper attacking. The sources (S1 and S2) communicate with each other via the relays in two phases. Due to the directional antennas at the relay, eavesdropper does not eavesdrop from the relay. The eavesdropper only eavesdrops the message from one of two sources at a time, which has higher strength. The total relay power is divided between two relays. An optimal value of power allocation, which minimises the secrecy outage probability (SOP), is derived under equal and different transmit power of both the sources. The optimal value of transmitting power of S1 is obtained for a fixed value of transmitting power of S2. Performance in terms of the SOP increases with increase in transmit power of the sources, supply power for relays while it may decrease with increase in transmit power of one source beyond its optimal value for a given transmit power of the other source and increase in the threshold of global secrecy rate. They derive a closed‐form expression of SOP of this proposed model. The analytical results are validated by our MATLAB based simulation results

Secrecy Performance of Two-Way Communication in CRN with Half-Duplex AF Relay under Eavesdropper Attacking

Shashibhushan Sharma, Sanjay Dhar Roy, Sumit Kundu

We evaluate secrecy outage probability (SOP) of a two-way communication network that uses a half-duplex amplify and forward (AF) relay in a cognitive radio network, where the relay uses two directional antennas. The transmitted signal from the cognitive sources only is eavesdropped by an eavesdropper (EAV) which however fails to eavesdrop relayed signal due to use of directional antennas. A signal from one cognitive source (CS1) acts as a jamming signal for the other at the EAV. A closed form expression for SOP, in the jamming nature of the signals of the cognitive sources, has been developed and impact of several network parameters such as primary transmit power, channel mean power, relay transmit power, and threshold secrecy rate on SOP has been evaluated. Further, MATLAB Simulation has been carried out to validate the analytical results.

Full-Duplex Relay Assisted Secure Transmission for NOMA Networks

Yang Cao, Jie Tang, Nan Zhao +4 more

In a downlink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system, the reliable transmission of cell-edge users cannot be guaranteed. On the other hand, the presence of eavesdroppers can severely threaten the secure transmission. Thus, a two-user NOMA system assisted by a multi-antenna decode-and-forward (DF) relay is considered in this paper, and a two-stage jamming scheme, FDJam, is proposed to ensure the secure transmission of NOMA users. In the FDJam scheme, using full-duplex (FD), the relay transmits the jamming signal to the eavesdropper while receiving confidential messages in the first stage, and the base station (BS) generates the jamming signal in the second stage. Furthermore, we eliminate the self-interference and the jamming signal at the relay and the legitimate node, respectively, through relay beamforming. To measure the secrecy performance, analytical expressions for secrecy outage probability (SOP) are derived. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Secrecy Performance of NOMA-Based Two-Way Communication System at Physical Layer

Shashibhushan Sharma, Kounteya Sarkar, Sudip Misra

Abstract This paper examines physical layer security in a NOMA-based two-way wireless communication system with several decode-and-forward relays and a malicious eavesdropper. We implement a partial relay selection system to maximize the secrecy capacity of a specific user's information signal. Two hops are involved in the communication process because of the half-duplex relay cooperation. A selected relay receives information from two users. The relay strengthens the signals and broadcasts them during the second hop. Additionally, a jammer transmits a jamming signal that is known to all legitimate nodes but appears as noise with the received signals at the eavesdropper. Since legitimate user nodes are already aware of the jamming signal, channel status information, and self-information, they can decode the original information in downlink mode by self-interference and successive interference cancellation. Secrecy outage probability, intercept probability, and secrecy throughput have been investigated as metrics to analyze the security, where the secrecy performance of a particular user is found to increase by $94.66\, \%$ with an increment in transmit SNR of jamming from $60\, dB$ to $70\, dB$ and increases by $90.78\, \%$ with an increment in the number of relays from 2 to 5.

Improving physical layer security in full-duplex relaying system

Rupali Nirala, Singh Chauhan, Gaurav Kumar Verma

Secure transmission is possible in wireless communication due to physical layer security with the help of relay in the presence of eavesdroppers. In this system, we investigate the secrecy performance for desired users where undesired users, who are not selected for data reception, may overhear the message signal as eavesdroppers. Here, relay operate with decode-and-forward (DF) mode with full-duplex jamming (FDJ) under total transmit power constraint. First obtain the secrecy rate for half-duplex transmission (HDT), which requires two time slot for data reception and transmission. Second obtain the secrecy rate in FDJ. In this system, we use FDJ scheme to overcome the overhearing of eavesdroppers, in which a desired receiver send a jamming signal towards untrustworthy relay when relay receive a message signal from transmitter and then relay decode and forward the received signal towards desired receiver on the same time slot. Now receiver receives the message signal with jamming and only this desire receiver can subtract the jamming signal and also it will create an interference to prevent the overhearing of undesired receiver. The result indicate that secrecy rate of FDJ is better than the HDT.

Secrecy outage probability of dual hop amplify and forward relay in presence of an eavesdropper

Gowthamkrishnan Cherukuri, Shashibhushan Sharma, Sanjay Dhar Roy +1 more

In this paper we evaluate the secrecy outage probability (SOP) of an amplify and forward relay (AFR) scheme in presence of a single eavesdropper (EAV). A two hop communication scheme is studied where secrecy is enhanced by transmitting jamming signals from source (S), relay (R) and destination (D). A novel scheme of assisting the confidential information transfer by simultaneous transmission of jamming signal is presented. The source transmit power is appropriately divided for simultaneously transmission of jamming signal and information signal following a power splitting ratio (a). The performance of the scheme is evaluated in terms of secrecy outage probability (SOP) under several conditions of transmission power of source, relay, destination and SNRs of inter node channels. A MATLAB based simulation of our scheme demonstrates significant reduction of SOP.
