Abstract

In this paper we evaluate the secrecy outage probability (SOP) of an amplify and forward relay (AFR) scheme in presence of a single eavesdropper (EAV). A two hop communication scheme is studied where secrecy is enhanced by transmitting jamming signals from source (S), relay (R) and destination (D). A novel scheme of assisting the confidential information transfer by simultaneous transmission of jamming signal is presented. The source transmit power is appropriately divided for simultaneously transmission of jamming signal and information signal following a power splitting ratio (a). The performance of the scheme is evaluated in terms of secrecy outage probability (SOP) under several conditions of transmission power of source, relay, destination and SNRs of inter node channels. A MATLAB based simulation of our scheme demonstrates significant reduction of SOP.

Secrecy outage probability with destination assisted jamming in presence of an untrusted relay

The study of secrecy capacity of wireless networks, considering variety of powerful attacks is currently of great interest. In this paper, we have considered a possible attack scenario where an eavesdropper is present as a legitimate relay node in disguise in the network. A novel scheme of simultaneous transmission of jamming signal and message signal is proposed to confuse the eavesdropper. Here we consider a source, a destination and two amplify and forward (AF) relays each employed with a single antenna. One of the two relays used in the network is un-trusted and eavesdrop the information signal sent by the source. We analyze secrecy outage probability (SOP) of our proposed scheme under several network parameters such as target secrecy rate, transmit power of source, jamming power by destination and mean powers of fading channel. We also develop a simulation test bed to evaluate secrecy outage probability.

Secure communication for wireless energy harvesting decode and forward relay in presence of an eavesdropper

Gowthamkrishnan Cherukuri, Shashibhushan Sharma, Srinivas Nallagonda +1 more

In this paper, we analyze the secrecy performance of a dual hop communication system with decode and forward relay (DFR) in the presence of an eavesdropper (EAV), which operates in full duplex mode. The secrecy capacity of the system is enhanced by using a Hybrid scheme of combination of time switching-based relaying (TSR) and power splitting-based relaying (PSR). A novel scheme of assisting the confidential information transmission by simultaneous transmission of jamming signal is presented. Both relay and EAV harvest energy from RF signals by using the Hybrid scheme. The performance of the scheme is evaluated in terms of secrecy outage probability (SOP) under several conditions of network parameters and SNRs of inter node channels. We also compare the results of PSR scheme alone in terms of SOP with Hybrid scheme under our proposed jamming model. MATLAB based simulation of our scheme demonstrates significant reduction of SOP.

Secrecy Performance of Two-Way Communication in CRN with Half-Duplex AF Relay under Eavesdropper Attacking

Shashibhushan Sharma, Sanjay Dhar Roy, Sumit Kundu

We evaluate secrecy outage probability (SOP) of a two-way communication network that uses a half-duplex amplify and forward (AF) relay in a cognitive radio network, where the relay uses two directional antennas. The transmitted signal from the cognitive sources only is eavesdropped by an eavesdropper (EAV) which however fails to eavesdrop relayed signal due to use of directional antennas. A signal from one cognitive source (CS1) acts as a jamming signal for the other at the EAV. A closed form expression for SOP, in the jamming nature of the signals of the cognitive sources, has been developed and impact of several network parameters such as primary transmit power, channel mean power, relay transmit power, and threshold secrecy rate on SOP has been evaluated. Further, MATLAB Simulation has been carried out to validate the analytical results.

On Secrecy Performance for Energy-Harvesting Multi-Antenna Relaying Networks with a Dual-Use Source

Jiliang Zhang, Gaofeng Pan, Yiyuan Xie

This paper studies the secrecy performance of an energy-harvesting relaying system in the presence of a dualuse source node and an eavesdropper.Specifically, the source has dual roles in the dual-hop communication: 1) to transmit confidential information in the first hop; 2) to generate jamming signal to interfere the eavesdropper in the second hop. Moreover, the multi-antenna relay deploys a power-splitting harvesting scheme to coordinate the information receiving and energy harvesting, and adopts maximal ratio combining technique to process the multiple copies of signals.Considering decode-andforward protocol and transmit antenna selection scheme, we derive an analytical expression for secrecy outage probability, and perform Monte Carlo simulation to validate the analysis.Analytical results show that the SOP performance with the dualuse source node can be effectively improved when the relaydestination channel does not have absolute advantage over the relay-eavesdropper channel.

Secrecy Outage of Dual-Hop AF Relay System With Relay Selection Without Eavesdropper's CSI

Abhishek Jindal, Chinmoy Kundu, Ranjan Bose

We evaluate the upper bound, lower bound and an approximate expression for secrecy outage probability of a dual hop Amplify-and-forward (AF) relay system when the single cooperating relay among the relays is selected without the knowledge of eavesdropper's instantaneous channel state information (CSI). This situation arises when eavesdropper is not a legitimate node, or being a trusted node, it acts maliciously and does not share its instantaneous CSI. We also obtain the tighter bounds in high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the source to relay links and in high SNR of the relay to destination links. We show that when the SNR of the source to relay links tends to zero, it becomes the bottle neck for secure communication, and the secrecy outage tends to 1. We show that the approximate expression follows the simulated outage closely and the outage decreases with an increase in the number of relays and increases with an increase in the required secrecy rate.

Outage optimal relay selection strategy using destination-based jamming for secure communication in amplify-and-forward relay networks

Sarbani Ghose, Ranjan Bose

In this paper, we consider a two-hop wireless system consisting of one source, one destination, one eavesdropper and multiple amplify-and-forward relays. A time-division duplex scheme is proposed that aims at minimizing the secrecy rate outage by selecting an optimal relay from the set of candidate relays. In the first time slot, the source transmits the information bearing signal, meanwhile the destination jams the eavesdropper. In the second slot, the selected relay forwards the received signals in amplify-and-forward fashion. Out of two hops, the eavesdropper can tap only the signal transmitted by the relay in the second hop. We obtain a closed-form expression of the end-to-end secrecy outage for instantaneous and statistical channel-state information of the eavesdropper. The analytical results suggest that the proposed destination-based jamming outperforms the conventional relay selection scheme without jamming. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to verify the analytical results.
