Squeezing and entanglement in two-mode Bose–Einstein condensates

Abstract

We investigate the influence of one-body losses on the dynamics of squeezing and entanglement in two-mode Bose–Einstein condensates. We show that one-body losses play an important role in the dynamical process of generating squeezing and quantum entanglement. The stronger one-body losses induce smaller squeezing and lesser entanglement, but maintain in a longer time interval.

Spin squeezing in a bimodal condensate: spatial dynamics and particle losses

Yun Li, Philipp Treutlein, Jakob Reichel +1 more

We propose an analytical method to study the entangled spatial and spin dynamics of interacting bimodal Bose-Einstein condensates. We show that at particular times during the evolution spatial and spin dynamics disentangle and the spin squeezing can be predicted by a simple two-mode model. We calculate the maximum spin squeezing achievable in experimentally relevant situations with Sodium or Rubidium bimodal condensates, including the effect of the dynamics and of one, two and three-body losses.

Quantum squeezing and entanglement in a two-mode Bose-Einstein condensate with time-dependent Josephson-like coupling

Seok Jin Choi, N. P. Bigelow

Dynamical evolution of quantum mechanical squeezing and entanglement in a two-mode Bose-Einstein condensate (TBEC) with an adiabatic, time-varying Raman coupling is studied by finding analytical expressions for these quantities. In particular, we study the entanglement between the atoms in the condensate as well as that between the two modes. The nature of the enhanced quantum correlations in TBEC is clarified by considering squeezing and entanglement both with and without the nonlinear interaction turned on; it is found that entanglement approaching maximal value can be achieved with the nonlinear interactions present. Somewhat counterintuitively, greater squeezing is found in the absence of nonlinear interactions. This is due to the collapses and revivals of the TBEC quantum state induced by the nonlinear interactions. In addition, results involving the self-trapping phase state of TBEC indicate potential for creating a dynamically stable, macroscopic entangled quantum state which is relatively robust with respect to atom number fluctuations.

Squeezing and entanglement of a Bose-Einstein condensate in optical lattices

X. P. Liu, P. T. Leung

The squeezing and entanglement properties of a one-component Bose-Einstein condensate trapped in optical lattices are theoretically studied. A two-mode squeezing parameter for the system is found, which is identical with Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen correlation, indicating the quantum correlation between excitation modes. Its dynamics and relation to the Hamiltonian parameters are quantitatively shown, and some constructive relation between squeezing and condensation is pointed out. For entanglement, the entanglement of formation of the two-mode system is also presented. For the probing of such a correlation, relevant experimental issues about atom shot noise are also discussed.

The entanglement in the system which consists of two-mode squeezed vacuum state and Bose- Einstein condensate in two-photon process is investigated. The entanglement of field-atom and the entangle- ment between the two-mode field are investigated using the quantum reduced entropy and quantum relative entropy, respectively. The influences of the initial squeezed parameter of field and the interaction between atoms on the evolution of the entanglement of field-atom and one of two modes of field are discussed.

Robust generation of entanglement in Bose-Einstein condensates by collective atomic recoil

Mary M. Cola, Matteo G. A. Paris, N. Piovella

We address the dynamics induced by collective atomic recoil in a Bose-Einstein condensate in the presence of radiation losses and atomic decoherence. In particular, we focus on the linear regime of the lasing mechanism, and analyze the effects of losses and decoherence on the generation of entanglement. The dynamics is that of three bosons, two atomic modes interacting with a single-mode radiation field, coupled with a bath of oscillators. The resulting three-mode dissipative Master equation is solved analytically in terms of the Wigner function. We examine in details the two complementary limits of high-$Q$ cavity and bad cavity, the latter corresponding to the so-called superradiant regime, both in the quasiclassical and quantum regimes. We found that three-mode entanglement as well as two-mode atom-atom and atom-radiation entanglement is generally robust against losses and decoherence, thus making the present system a good candidate for the experimental observation of entanglement in condensate systems. In particular, steady-state entanglement may be obtained both between atoms with opposite momenta and between atoms and photons.

Quantum Phase Diffusion in Two-Mode Bose-Einstein Condensates with Particle Losses

Jianning Liu, Jiahao Xu, Kejela Wodajo Ebawak +3 more

We study the effect of particle losses on dynamical phase diffusion in a two-mode Bose-Einstein condensate.Starting with an equal-population coherent state, the single-particle coherence is solved analytically by the Monte Carlo wave function method. We show that decoherence slows down the loss of single-particle coherence. Moreover, we find that the bigger phase diffusion is, the more sensitive to the noise it becomes. Finally, we discuss the effect of the losses on the spin squeezing and show that the squeezing angle is robust to the decoherence even though the value of the squeezing is greatly affected.
