Abstract

Dynamical evolution of quantum mechanical squeezing and entanglement in a two-mode Bose-Einstein condensate (TBEC) with an adiabatic, time-varying Raman coupling is studied by finding analytical expressions for these quantities. In particular, we study the entanglement between the atoms in the condensate as well as that between the two modes. The nature of the enhanced quantum correlations in TBEC is clarified by considering squeezing and entanglement both with and without the nonlinear interaction turned on; it is found that entanglement approaching maximal value can be achieved with the nonlinear interactions present. Somewhat counterintuitively, greater squeezing is found in the absence of nonlinear interactions. This is due to the collapses and revivals of the TBEC quantum state induced by the nonlinear interactions. In addition, results involving the self-trapping phase state of TBEC indicate potential for creating a dynamically stable, macroscopic entangled quantum state which is relatively robust with respect to atom number fluctuations.

Entanglement dynamics in two-component Bose–Einstein condensates

Hao Ya-Jiang, Liang Jiu-Qing

Based on the exact solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for two-species Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs) consisting of two hyperfine states of the atoms coupled by a tuned adiabatic and time-varying Raman coupling, we obtain analytically the entanglement dynamics of the system with various initial states, particularly the SU(2) coherent state, for both of cases with and without the nonlinear interactions. It is shown that the effect of nonlinear interaction on the entanglement appears only in a longer time period depending on the BEC parameters.

Atomic Tunnelling Dynamics of Two Squeezed Bose–Einstein Condensates

Jin-Hui Li, Kuang Le-Man

In this paper, tunnelling dynamics of squeezed Bose–Einstein condensates (BEC's) in the presence of the nonlinear self-interaction of each species, the interspecies nonlinear interaction, and the Josephson-like tunnelling interaction is investigated by using the second quantization approach. The influence of BEC squeezing on macroscopic quantum self-trapping (MQST) and quantum coherent atomic tunnelling is analyzed in detail. It is shown that the MQST and coherent atomic tunnelling between two squeezed BEC's can be manipulated through changing squeezing amplitude and squeezing phase of BEC squeezed states.

Quantum dynamics of a model for two Josephson-coupled Bose–Einstein condensates

Arlei Prestes Tonel, Jon Links, Angela Foerster

In this work, we investigate the quantum dynamics of a model for two single-mode Bose–Einstein condensates which are coupled via Josephson tunnelling. Using direct numerical diagonalization of the Hamiltonian, we compute the time evolution of the expectation value for the relative particle number across a wide range of couplings. Our analysis shows that the system exhibits rich and complex behaviours varying between harmonic and non-harmonic oscillations, particularly around the threshold coupling between the delocalized and self-trapping phases. We show that these behaviours are dependent on both the initial state of the system and regime of the coupling. In addition, a study of the dynamics for the variance of the relative particle number expectation and the entanglement for different initial states is presented in detail.

Quantum dynamics of a spin-1 condensate in a double-well potential

Özgür Esat Müstecaplıoğlu, Wenxian Zhang, Li You

We study quantum dynamics of a Bose-Einstein condensate of spin-1 atoms inside a double-well potential. Under the single spatial mode approximation for condensate wave functions localized within each of the two wells, we examine quantum entanglement and pseudo-spin-squeezing properties in both the Rabi and Josephson regimes. Quantum fluctuations is found to be more stable leading to robust multipartite entanglement in the lower end of the Josephson regime, or the mean field self-trapped region. Substantial multipartite entanglement is witnessed not only due to pseudo-spin-squeezing by the axis-twisting interaction but also from redistribution of mode-entangled atoms between the wells by the tunneling coupling.

Bose-Einstein condensate as a nonlinear Ramsey interferometer operating beyond the Heisenberg limit

Seok Jin Choi, Bala Sundaram

We show that a dynamically evolving two-mode Bose-Einstein condensate (TBEC) with an adiabatic, time-varying Raman coupling maps exactly onto a Ramsey interferometer that includes a nonlinear medium. Assuming a realistic quantum state for the TBEC that has been achieved experimentally, we find that the measurement uncertainty of the ``path-difference'' phase shift scales as the standard quantum limit $(1/\sqrt{N})$, where $N$ is the number of atoms, while that for the interatomic scattering strength scales as $1/{N}^{7/5}$, overcoming the conventional Heisenberg limit of $1/N$.

Atomic squeezing properties in Roman-Coupled Bose-Einstein Condensate are studied analytically and numerically. The dependence of two-mode squeezing on the parameters is investigated in detail. It is found that the degree of two-mode squeezing can be enhanced by increasing the initial intensity and the strength of inter-atomic weak nonlinear interactions and decreasing the tunneling coupling strength.
