Abstract

Abstract The transient gain-absorption properties of the probe field in vertical triple quantum dots assisted by double tunneling and incoherent pumping are investigated. With a proper intensity value and detuning of the second tunneling, the transient gain in triple quantum dots with incoherent pumping can be completely eliminated. In addition, the incoherent pumping affects both the amplitude of the transient absorption and the steady-state value. The dependence of transient behaviors on other parameters, such as the radiative decay rate and the pure dephasing decay rate of the quantum dots, is also discussed. The scheme may have important applications in quantum information networks and communication.

Electrical and optical control of optical gain in a coupled triple quantum dot system operating in telecommunication window

Mohammad Reza Mehmannavaz, Hamed Sattari

We investigate the light amplification and gain without inversion (GWI) in triple quantum dot molecules in both steady-state and transient state. We demonstrate that the light amplification and GWI of a light pulse can be controlled through the rates of the incoherent pumping and tunneling between electronic levels. The required switching times for switching of a light pulse from absorption to gain and vice versa is then discussed. We obtain switching time at about 40 ps, which resembles a high-speed optical switch in nanostructure. The proposed approach in QDMs may provide some new possibilities for technological applications in optoelectronics and solid-state quantum information science.

Optically controllable switch for light propagation based on triple coupled quantum dots

Mostafa Sahrai, Mohammad Reza Mehmannavaz, Hamed Sattari

A switch is proposed for controlling the subluminal and superluminal light propagation through the triple coupled quantum dots system. The steady-state and transient behavior of the absorption and the dispersion of a probe pulse through a triple quantum dots molecule are investigated. We demonstrate that the group velocity of a light pulse can be controlled from subluminal to superluminal or vice versa by controlling the rates of incoherent pumping and tunneling between electronic levels. Switching time is calculated by discussing the dependency of optical transient properties on the incoherent pumping and inter-dot tunneling rates. We introduce three controlling parameters that make it possible to control the wave propagation electrically or even optically in such coupled quantum dot systems.

Transient properties of amplitude and phase-controlled transparency in a quantum dot molecule

S. Goharshenasan Esfahani, Mohammad Mahmoudi

We study the transient properties of phase and amplitude-controlled transparency in a three-level pump-probe quantum dot molecule. We apply a probe and a coupling fields to an asymmetric double quantum dot and we find that under transparency condition, system can exhibit transient gain without inversion. It is shown that dynamical behavior of absorption and gain are dependent to the relative phase of applied field as well as the parameters of the system.

Controlling the Goos–Hänchen Shift via Incoherent Pumping Field and Electron Tunneling in the Triple Coupled InGaAs/GaAs Quantum Dots

Rajab Nasehi, Seyyed Hossein Asadpour, HAMID RAHIMPOUR SOLEIMANI +1 more

We study the controlling of the Goos-Hänchen (GH) shifts in reflected and transmitted light beams in the triple coupled InGaAs/GaAs quantum dot (QD) nanostructures with electron tunneling and incoherent pumping field. It is shown that the lateral shift can become either large negative or large positive, which can be controlled by the electron tunneling and the rate of incoherent pump field in different incident angles. It is also demonstrated that the properties of the GH shifts are strongly dependent on the probe absorption beam of the intracavity medium due to the switching from superluminal light propagation to subluminal behavior or vice versa. Our suggested system can be considered as a new theoretical method for developing a new nano-optoelectronic sensor.

Gain-phase grating via double tunneling in quantum dot molecules

Ruijin Sun, Yongsheng Hu, Guangling Cheng +1 more

Abstract The scheme for gain-phase grating is proposed via double tunneling effect in the quantum dot molecules system with five-level structure, which is formed by two quantum dots due to inter-dot tunneling. Combining the stranding-wave control field with the double tunneling effect, the weak probe field could be diffracted to the high-order direction with the strong diffraction intensity. In the presence of double tunneling, the gain accompanied with the certain dispersion occurs, which is responsible for the preparation of the high-efficiency grating. It is found that the first-, second-, and other-order diffraction intensities are simultaneously higher than the central intensity and the diffraction intensities could be controlled by adjusting the parameters such as tunneling intensities, interaction length, probe detuning, relative phase and Rabi frequencies of external fields. The scheme we present can be utilized to develop a new photonic device for optical network and communication.

Electrical and optical control of entanglement entropy in a coupled triple quantum dot system

Mohammad Reza Mehmannavaz

We investigated theoretically the entanglement creation through tunneling rate and fields in a four-level triple quantum dot molecule based on InAs/GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure in both steady state and transient state. We demonstrate that the entanglement entropy among the QDM and its spontaneous emission fields can be controlled by coherent and incoherent pumping field and tunnel-coupled electronics levels. The results may provide some new possibilities for technological applications in solid-state quantum information science, quantum computing, teleportation, encryption, compression codec, and optoelectronics.
