Abstract

We study the transient properties of phase and amplitude-controlled transparency in a three-level pump-probe quantum dot molecule. We apply a probe and a coupling fields to an asymmetric double quantum dot and we find that under transparency condition, system can exhibit transient gain without inversion. It is shown that dynamical behavior of absorption and gain are dependent to the relative phase of applied field as well as the parameters of the system.

Phase and amplitude control of optical bistability in quantum dot molecules

We investigate the optical bistability (OB) behavior in a unidirectional ring cavity containing an asymmetric semiconductor double quantum dot (QD) system that forms a three-level V type system. We apply a probe and a coupling field to the system and it is shown that in the presence of inter-dot tunneling, the bistability of the system can be controlled by amplitude and relative phase of applied fields.

Control of transient gain absorption via tunneling and incoherent pumping in triple quantum dots

Si-Cong Tian, Xiaojun Zhang, Ren-Gang Wan +6 more

Abstract The transient gain-absorption properties of the probe field in vertical triple quantum dots assisted by double tunneling and incoherent pumping are investigated. With a proper intensity value and detuning of the second tunneling, the transient gain in triple quantum dots with incoherent pumping can be completely eliminated. In addition, the incoherent pumping affects both the amplitude of the transient absorption and the steady-state value. The dependence of transient behaviors on other parameters, such as the radiative decay rate and the pure dephasing decay rate of the quantum dots, is also discussed. The scheme may have important applications in quantum information networks and communication.

Phase and Amplitude Control of Optical Properties of Quantum Dot Molecules

Mohammad Mahmoudi, Sahar Goharshenasan

We investigate the optical properties of a weak probe field in an asymmetry semiconductor double QDs system. We apply a coupling and a probe field to the system and it is shown that in the presence of interdot tunneling, the dispersion and absorption properties of the system can be controlled by the amplitude and relative phase of applied fields. Moreover, it is demonstrated that just by changing the relative phase of applied fields, the slope of dispersion is changed from positive to negative, corresponding to the superluminal light propagation.

Phase Control of Transient Optical Properties of Double Coupled Quantum-Dot Nanostructure via Gaussian Laser Beams

Jalil Shiri, Fatemeh Shahi, Mohammad Reza Mehmannavaz +1 more

We theoretically analyze the transient properties of a probe field absorption and dispersion in a coupled semiconductor double-quantum-dot nanostructure. We show that in the presence of the Gaussian laser beams, absorption and dispersion of the probe field can be dramatically influenced by the relative phase between applied fields and intensity of the Gaussian laser beams. Transient and steady-state behaviors of the probe field absorption and dispersion are discussed to estimate the required switching time. The estimated range is between 5–8 ps for subluminal to superluminal light propagation .

Transient gain-absorption properties of the probe field in a semiconductor quantum well

Zhiping Wang, Hong-Yi Fan

We investigate the transient gain-absorption properties of the probe field in an n -doped three-level semiconductor quantum well system. It is shown that the coupling field and the pumping field affect the optical behavior dramatically, which can be used to manipulate the gain-absorption coefficient. The dependence of the gain-absorption properties on the relative phase is also discussed. Our study is much more practical than its atomic counterpart due to its flexible design and the wide adjustable parameters. Thus, it may provide some new possibilities for technological applications.

Tunable control phase for superluminal to subluminal light propagation in a ladder three-level quantum dot molecule

Mozhgan Momeni Demne, Mostafa Sahrai

In this paper, the effect of relative phase of applied fields on probe field dispersion and absorption for a laddershaped three level quantum dot molecule is investigated. The results show that the relative phase of applied fields can be affected on the probe beam propagation, and thus its absorption, dispersion and group velocity. The dispersion and the absorption may change with the relative phase of applied fields. By adjusting relative phase of applied fields light propagation from superluminal to subluminal and absorption to gain can be switched.
