Robust second-order correlation of twin parametric beams generated by amplified spontaneous parametric down-conversion

Kunpeng Jia, Xiaohan Wang, Xinjie Lü +7 more

We report an observation of the second-order correlation between twin beams generated by amplified spontaneous parametric down-conversion operating above threshold with kilowatt-level peak power, from a periodically poled LiTaO 3 crystal via a single-pass scheme.Photocurrent correlation was measured because of the bright photon streams, with raw visibility of 37.9% or 97.3% after electronic filtering. As expected in our theory, this correlation is robust and insensitive to parametric gain and detection loss, enabling important applications in optical communications, precision measurement, and nonlocal imaging.

This paper discusses a measurement scheme of high power twin beams generated by a non-degenerated optical parametric oscillator operating above threshold. The beam splitter can be used in the measurement scheme for high power twin beams without disturbing quantum correlation. An experimental demonstration is also given in this paper.

Observation of Quantum Noise Reduction on Twin Laser Beams

A. Heidmann, R. J. Horowicz, Serge Reynaud +3 more

We have used a two-mode optical parametric oscillator operating above threshold to generate high-intensity twin beams which exhibit quantum correlations. The noise power measured on the intensity difference between two such beams is reduced by 30% below the shot-noise limit. Noise reduction is observed over a broad range of frequencies.

Generation of Quantum-Correlated Twin Beams and Its Application

Katsuyuki Kasai

The signal and idler beams from a non-degenerate, above threshold, optical parametric oscillator have a strong quantum correlation, which are called twin beams. This correlation arises from the simultaneous generation of the signal and idler photons in the form of twin pairs of photons through the parametric down conversion, and the generated twin beams have exactly the same photon statistics. As a result, the fluctuations on the difference between the intensities of the twin beams are reduced with respect to the shot noise limit, that is, intensity-difference squeezing. We give a comprehensive overview of the generation of twin beams using the optical parametric oscillator, and the applications exploiting the quantum correlation of twin beams are presented.

Observation of quantum-correlated twin beams in cascaded nonlinear interactions

We report on the generation of twin beams through a cascaded process of optical parametric oscillation in a doubly resonant second-harmonic generation system. These bright beams exhibit strong quantum correlations, enabling the observation of up to 5 dB of noise reduction in their intensity difference below the standard quantum limit.
