Abstract

Purification of non-maximally entangled two-atom states and three-atom states is investigated by means of entanglement swapping, which is generalized to non-maximally entangled multi-atom states' purification. It is found that the purification probabilities in all kinds of entangled atom states are the same, 2|b|~2,which is equal to twice modulus of the least coefficient of four coefficients in entangled atom states.

Optimal entanglement purification via entanglement swapping

Bao‐Sen Shi, Yun-Kun Jiang, Guang‐Can Guo

It is known that entanglement swapping can be used to realize entanglement purification. In this way, two particles belonging to different nonmaximally entangled pairs can be projected probabilistically to a maximally entangled state or to a less entangled state. In this paper, we show, when the less entangled state is obtained, then a maximally entangled state can be obtained probabilistically from this less entangled state if a unitary transformation is introduced locally. The probability of success of our scheme is equal to the entanglement of a single pair purification (if two original pairs are in the same nonmaximally entangled states) or to the smaller entanglement of a single pair purification of these two pairs (if two original pairs are not in the same nonmaximally entangled states). The advantage of our scheme is that no continuous indefinite iterative procedure is needed to achieve optimal purification.

Nonmaximally entangled bases and their application in entanglement purification via swapping

Mátyás Koniorczyk, Vladimír Bužek

Four basis vectors of the Hilbert space of two qubits have the property that if three of them are product states, then the fourth one has to be a product state as well. We address the following situation: Consider a set of orthogonal vectors, each exhibiting a certain degree of entanglement. What is the bound on entanglement of the rest of the basis vectors to form a complete orthonormal basis? Specifically, we present an orthonormal basis, the $\ensuremath{\Xi}$ basis in the Hilbert space of two qubits, with one product state and three equally entangled states. The maximum of the so available entanglement is quantified. A close-to-optimal protocol is presented for entanglement purification via entanglement swapping of two-qubit states. It is based on a suitably chosen nonmaximally entangled basis and carried out in a single step without any ancillas. A similar application of the $\ensuremath{\Xi}$ basis is examined. In this latter case, all the involved entangled states have different and nonorthogonal Schmidt decompositions and, except for some possibly resulting states, none of them are maximally entangled. Entanglement of single pair purification is not conserved on average in this case.

Quantum dialogue using non-maximally entangled states based on entanglement swapping

Yan Xia, Jie Song, He‐Shan Song

We present a secure quantum dialogue protocol using non-maximally entangled two-particle states via entanglement swapping at first, and then discuss the requirements for a real quantum dialogue. Within the present version two authorized users can exchange their faithful secret messages securely and simultaneously based on the method of entanglement purification.

Generation and concentration of multi-atom entangled states

Jia Min Tan, Xin-Wen Wang, Mao-Fa Fang

A direct entanglement concentration protocol for generalized GHZ states is proposed using entanglement swapping in cavity QED. Via this scheme, multi-atom maximally entangled states can be prepared free from the effects of the cavity decay and the thermal field, due to the fact that the interaction here is a large-detuned one between atoms and the cavity.

Matching for probabilistic entanglement swapping.

Luis Roa, Torben L. Purz, Ariana S. Muñoz +3 more

The basic entanglement swapping protocol allows to achieve the main aim of deterministically projecting two qubits, which have never interacted, onto a maximally entangled state. For deterministic swapping the key ingredient is the maximal entanglement initially contained in two pairs of qubits and the ability to measure onto a Bell basis. In other words, the basic and deterministic entanglement swapping scheme involves three maximal level of entanglement. In this work we address probabilistic entanglement swapping processes performed with different amounts of initial entanglement. Besides, we suggest a non Bell measuring-basis, thus we introduce a third entanglement level in the process. Additionally, we propose the \emph{unambiguous state extraction} scheme as the local mechanism for probabilistically achieving the main aim. Amalgamating these three elements allows us to design four strategies for performing probabilistic entanglement swapping. Surprisingly, we encountered an twofold entanglement matching effect related to the concurrence of the measuring-basis. Specifically, the maximal probability of accomplishing the main aim becomes a constant for concurrences higher than or equal to the matching entanglement values. Thus, we show that maximal entanglement in the measuring-basis is not required for attaining the main aim with optimal probability.
