Abstract

The authors realize the experimental observation of green bright quadrature amplitude squeezed light through a home-made 1064nm single-frequency Nd:YVO_4 laser doubled in a periodically poled KTP crystal inside a standing-wave cavity. The squeezing as a function of input power is investigated. When the pump power is 59 mW,the result is we observed 0.6 dB second harmonic squeezing. The experimental results agree with the theoretical predictions.

3 dB squeezing by single-pass parametric amplification in a periodically poled KTiOPO_4 crystal

Takuya Hirano, K. Kotani, T. Ishibashi +2 more

We present the experimental observation of pulsed squeezed light from a degenerate optical parametric amplifier pumped by a second harmonic of a continuous-wave mode-locked Nd:YVO4 laser. With a single pass through a 10 mm long periodically poled KTiOPO4 crystal, the classical parametric gain of 11 is observed. The measured noise reduction in the quiet quadrature is 3.2 dB below the shot-noise level.

Efficient Generation of Squeezed Light Based on MgO-Doped Periodically Poled LiNbO 3

Dehuan Kong, Zong-Yang Li, Xuyang Wang +1 more

We demonstrate a high-efficiency green light conversion from an external cavity second harmonic generation with a MgO-doped periodically poled LiNbO 3 crystal. The frequency doubler can reach a conversion efficiency of 64% with a fundamental power of 26 mW. Meanwhile, the generated green light is quadrature-amplitude squeezed and 1.2 dB green light squeezing is experimentally measured. The squeezing at different pump levels is also investigated and is in good agreement with the theoretical prediction.

Green bright squeezed light from a cw periodically poled KTP second harmonic generator

Ulrik L. Andersen, Preben Buchhave

We present the experimental observation of bright amplitude squeezed light from a singly resonant second harmonic generator (SHG) based on a periodically poled potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) crystal. Contrary to conventional SHG, the interacting waves in this device couple efficiently using quasi phase matching (QPM) and more importantly QPM allows access to higher valued elements of the nonlinear tensor than is possible under the constraint of birefringence phase matching. We observe a noise reduction of 13% below the shot noise limit in the generated second harmonic field. This noise reduction is greater than what could be expected using normal birefringence phase matched KTP with the same experimental parameters. Excellent agreement between experiment and theory is found.

Squeezed singly resonant second-harmonic generation in periodically poled lithium niobate

M. J. Lawrence, Robert L. Byer, M. M. Fejer +3 more

We determine the theoretical singly resonant second-harmonic generation squeezing performance of several cavity designs and nonlinear materials. We show that, for the doubling of the 1064-nm output of Nd:YAG lasers, monolithic cavities made from periodically poled LiNbO3 (PPLN) will produce the largest amount of squeezing. We also present experimental results for a free-space cavity with a PPLN sample that yielded slightly less than 0.6 dB of measured squeezing. The cavity performance as a function of input power agrees with our theoretical predictions and shows the superior performance of periodically poled materials for the production of bright squeezed light.

Quantum correlation between fundamental and second-harmonic fields via second-harmonic generation

Yongmin Li, Sujing Zhang, Jianli Liu +1 more

We experimentally demonstrated the quantum anticorrelation between fundamental (1064 nm) and second-harmonic (532 nm) fields in an external cavity-enhanced singly resonant periodically poled KTP (PPKTP) frequency doubler. Fundamental amplitude squeezing of 0.5 dB and second-harmonic amplitude squeezing of 0.3 dB were generated simultaneously at a pump power of 6.1 mW. Meanwhile, quantum anticorrelation of 0.64 dB between the squeezed fundamental and the second-harmonic fields was observed.

Generation of femtosecond pulsed quadrature phase squeezed light

Hongyu Liu, Chen Li, Liu Ling +4 more

We demonstrate experimentally the short pulse amplitude squeezed light from a singly resonant synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillator (SPOPO). The SPOPO operates in the frequency degenerate case and below threshold, with using a periodically poled potassium titanyl phosphate crystal. The pump laser is the second harmonic of a ultrashort mode-locked femtosecond pulse at 850 nm. The reduction of quantum noise of 2.58 dB is obtained experimentally. The squeezing extent is deduced to be 4.48 dB.
