Abstract

We demonstrate a high-efficiency green light conversion from an external cavity second harmonic generation with a MgO-doped periodically poled LiNbO 3 crystal. The frequency doubler can reach a conversion efficiency of 64% with a fundamental power of 26 mW. Meanwhile, the generated green light is quadrature-amplitude squeezed and 1.2 dB green light squeezing is experimentally measured. The squeezing at different pump levels is also investigated and is in good agreement with the theoretical prediction.

Efficient generation of highly squeezed light with periodically poled MgO:LiNbO_3

We report on efficient generation of continuous-wave squeezed light and second harmonics with a periodically poled MgO:LiNbO(3) (PPMgLN) crystal which enables us to utilize the large nonlinear optical coefficient d(33). We achieved the squeezing level of -7.60+/-0.15 dB at 860 nm by utilizing a subthreshold optical parametric oscillator with a PPMgLN crystal. We also generated 400 mW of second harmonics at 430 nm from 570 mW of fundamental waves with 70% of conversion efficiency by using a PPMgLN crystal inside an external cavity.

Kuanshou Zhang

The authors realize the experimental observation of green bright quadrature amplitude squeezed light through a home-made 1064nm single-frequency Nd:YVO_4 laser doubled in a periodically poled KTP crystal inside a standing-wave cavity. The squeezing as a function of input power is investigated. When the pump power is 59 mW,the result is we observed 0.6 dB second harmonic squeezing. The experimental results agree with the theoretical predictions.

Amplitude squeezing by means of quasi-phase-matched second-harmonic generation in a lithium niobate waveguide

Darwin K. Serkland, Prem Kumar, Mark A. Arbore +1 more

We demonstrate that traveling-wave second-harmonic generation produces amplitude-squeezed light at both the fundamental and the harmonic frequencies. Quasi-phase-matched second-harmonic conversion efficiencies approaching 60% were obtained in a 26-mm-long single-mode LiNbO(3) waveguide with pulses from a mode-locked laser at 1.53 microm. The amplitude noise of the transmitted fundamental field was measured to be 0.8 dB below the shot-noise level, and the generated 0.765-microm harmonic light was measured to be amplitude squeezed by 0.35 dB. The conversion-efficiency dependence of the observed squeezing at both wavelengths agrees with theoretical predictions. Waveguide losses appear to degrade the squeezing, but the maximum observed squeezing is currently limited only by the available input power.

Investigation of fundamental and second harmonic squeezed lights from a singly resonant PPKTP frequency doubler

Sujing Zhang, Yongmin Li, Jianli Liu +1 more

Both fundamental and second harmonic amplitude squeezed lights were generated from an external cavity-enhanced singly resonant PPKTP frequency doubler. The effect of input coupling and fundamental power on the squeezing was experimentally investigated. It was shown that the optimal conditions (input coupling and fundamental power) are different for the squeezing of the fundamental and second harmonic lights. An agreement between experiment and theoretical prediction was found.

Pulsed Homodyne Detection of Squeezed Light at Telecommunication Wavelength

Yujiro Eto, Takashi Tajima, Yun Zhang +1 more

We present the generation of pulsed squeezed light at telecommunication wavelength of 1.535 µm via single-pass parametric amplification in a periodically poled MgO-doped lithium niobate waveguide using a novel collinear configuration. The quadrature-amplitude of squeezed light is measured in time domain. The classical parametric deamplification of -3.2 dB and quadrature squeezing of -1.5 dB are observed. The maximum classical parametric amplification of 19.3 dB is obtained at pump average power of 0.47 mW, taking advantage of the tight confinement in a waveguide and high peak power of the pulsed light.
