Abstract

Abstract: The concentration influence of Er3+ ion on electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is demonstrated in a three-level model. The maximum absorption is observed when the Er3+ concentration is about 15% in the absence of the coupling field, and there is an optimal ratio of transmission at about 3% of Er3+ concentration in the presence of a resonant coupling field.

Er 3+ ion concentration effect on transient and steady-state behavior in Er 3+ :YAG crystal

The effect of Er 3+ ion concentration on transient and steady-state behavior in 45-nm Er 3+ :YAG crystal is investigated. It is shown that by changing the signal field, the coherent field and the concentration of Er 3+ ions in the crystal, the absorption, dispersion, and group index of the weak probe field can be adjusted. Also, it is found that the probe absorption occurs in the presence of population inversion and probe amplification is obtained in the absence of population inversion.

Quantum-interference and the concentration of Er3+ion effect on left-handedness with zero absorption and large negative refractive index in Er3+:YAG crystal

Huifang Zhang, Haihong Ren, Xiaona Yan +1 more

The electromagnetically induced left-handedness with zero absorption and large negative refractive index was investigated in a solid Er3+:YAG crystal with a four-level system proposed for an atomic medium. It was found that the frequency region with simultaneous negative permittivity and negative permeability, the zero absorption intervals, and the maximum values of the negative refractive index can be adjusted by changing the signal field, the coherent field, as well as the concentration of Er3+ ion in crystal. It is shown that wider zero absorption intervals with a higher index of refraction can be easily obtained when the signal field is only off resonance. The slab fabricated by the left-handed solid medium Er3+:YAG crystal with zero absorption may be a practical candidate for designing perfect lenses.

Incoherent pumping field and Er3+ ion concentration effects on diffraction pattern of transmitted light in Er3+ doped YAG crystal

Junle Chen

The effect of Er[Formula: see text] ion concentration and incoherent pumping field on the Fraunhofer diffraction pattern of the transmitted light beam in Er[Formula: see text]: YAG crystal is discussed. It is shown that under different concentration of Er[Formula: see text] ion in crystal, the energy of the probe light can transfer to the higher orders of the grating. Also, it is shown that the switching from electromagnetically induced grating to electromagnetically induced phase gratin or vice versa can be obtained by different concentration of Er[Formula: see text] ion and incoherent pumping rate in crystal. Moreover, we have found that by replacing the probe light by optical vortex light, the asymmetric diffraction pattern can be obtained by tuning the optical vorticity of optical vortex light. In this case, the asymmetric diffraction pattern can also be controlled at different ion concentration.

We study the absorption-dispersion process and group index of weak probe field in a four-level Er 3+ :YAG crystal. We find that the Er 3+ ion concentration and incoherent pumping field can influence the absorption-dispersion process and group index of weak probe field. Moreover, our results show that Er 3+ ion concentration plays a major role in lasing without inversion and absorption with inversion.

Electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is reported in a solid-state material doped with erbium ions. In this paper we introduce the spectroscopic investigations we have conducted in order to identify the adequate $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$-like three-level systems in ${\text{Er}}^{3+}:{\text{Y}}_{2}{\text{SiO}}_{5}$ crystal, relevant for the demonstration of EIT. These results pave the way for nonlinear and quantum optics applications based on EIT at the telecom wavelength around $1.5\text{ }\ensuremath{\mu}\text{m}$.
