Abstract

In this paper, we present the energy level, transition configuration, and numerical model of a bismuth-doped fiber amplifier for the first time, to the best of authorspsila knowledge. With a three-level system, the rate and power propagation equations of the model are solved to examine the effect of the fiber parameter and pump power on the bandwidth of the gain spectra. It can be predicted that when excited at wavelength in the 800-900 nm range, the amplifier can have a ultrabroad gain spectra in the 1.2-1.62 mum range, which cover the low-loss windows of the all-wave fiber.

Optimization of bismuth-doped fiber amplifier gain spectrum based on genetic algorithm in 1200 nm-1600 nm

Zuohao Guo, Chenyu Xu, Jialing Yao

Abstract With the continuous evolution of communication technology, and the rapid rise of fiber optic communication in China However, the transmission distance of fiber optic communication is limited due to its fiber loss, so fiber optic amplifier has become one of the key research topics today. Currently on the market is a large-scale commercial bait-doped fiber amplifier, although it has the advantage of low noise and high gain, its effective amplification band is only concentrated in 1530 nm-1620 nm, however, there are many important transmission band amplification there are still research gaps. As a result, the focus of this paper’s research is on optimizing the gain spectrum of a bismuth-doped fiber amplifier at wavelengths between 1200 and 1600 nm using modelling and numerical simulation. The research method of this paper is as follows: first of all, after the literature survey, this topic is using the three-energy level structure, and then collecting the data of pump light wavelength and emission absorption cross-section, signal light emission, and absorption cross-section. fit the data to the graph line, and call the genetic optimization algorithm to derive the gain spectrum optimal value. It’s found that when the pump light wavelength is 1230 nm, fiber length is 2 m, bismuth ion doping concentration is 10.0×1024 ions/m3, the signal light wavelength is 1330 m, its amplifier gain spectrum reaches a peak of 57.17 dB, which is consistent with the results of the three-layer cycle (manual search).

Fiber optic amplifiers will improve the power of signals propagating in optical fibers, usually using doped ions as amplifiers. The bismuth-doped fiber amplifier can amplify the current E-band signal light, which is less used, and provide a solution to enhance the communication transmission capacity. In this essay, Matlab is used as a research tool, and the bismuth-doped fiber amplifier is selected, and the energy level system is a three-energy levelThe 830 nm-wavelength pumping source amplifies the signal light at 1390 nm. The bismuth-ion velocity and power amplification propagation equations are established, and the amplified spontaneous radiated optical power is calculated. Amplified spontaneous radiation optical power, and through the calculation and simulated annealing algorithm to derive the amplified spontaneous radiation optical power amplification with the doping concentration and fiber length spectrum, in the fiber length of 3.3m and the number of doped particles of 9.1 * 10^25 to obtain the maximum optical power of 7.95*10^-9W.

"Analytical Model of Pulse Amplification in Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier "

"Doping a part of the optical fiber core by (Er3+ ) ions in presence of external pumping power will lead to form the erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA).The performance of this optical amplifier depends on (the power and the wavelength of the pumping laser, the power and wavelength of the input signal, amplifier length, ion concentration). These parameters will affect the characteristics of EDFA such as amplifier gain, gain saturation, noise figure and output power. However, these characteristics can be determined by solving the EDFA propagation and rate equations. The solution of these equations of two-level laser medium can be done numerically. In this paper, we are proposed a novel method to solve these equations. The reconstructed results are perfectly coincided the well known numerical results.

E-band neodymium-doped fiber amplifier: model and application

Charles D. Boley, Jay W. Dawson, Leily Kiani +1 more

To analyze recent experiments with a neodymium-doped fiber amplifier operating in the E-band of wavelengths (1350-1450 nm) and embedded in fused silica, we develop a time-dependent model consisting of rate equations for the aggregate ion populations and the radiation intensities along the amplifier axis. Both copropagating and counterpropagating intensities, including amplified spontaneous emission, are incorporated. The wavelength-dependent cross section for excited state absorption is inferred from auxiliary measurements. Steady-state solutions are obtained over a range of seed wavelengths and powers. The resulting gain curves agree with experiment at low to intermediate powers (less than ∼1 mW). With a proposed addition to the system loss, the agreement extends to saturation (∼100 mW).

A Multiquantum-Dot-Doped Fiber Amplifier With Characteristics of Broadband, Flat Gain, and Low Noise

Cheng Cheng

Doped with PbSe nanocrystals of different sizes, a multiquantum-dot-doped fiber amplifier (MQDFA) is proposed. Performance of the MQDFA is simulated by solving light-propagation equations and rate equations for a three-level system, and by applying superposed emission-absorption cross sections of the quantum dots (QDs). Pumped with 980 nm, this proposed MQDFA has characteristics of broader band, flatter gain, and lower noise than those of the erbium-doped fiber amplifiers at present. There is evidence to show that two factors, i.e., the equivalent Stokes shifts and the full wave at half maximum of the superposed spectra, dominate the performances of the MQDFA. Also, the equivalent Stokes shift and the FWHM are tunable by adopting the QDs in different sizes and choosing the doped number available. It is expected that such a MQDFA may be able to cover the all waveband in telecommunications if it is optimized on the doped number, sizes, and doped concentrations of the QDs.
