Influence of chromatic dispersion on degenerate four-wave mixing

Abstract

We investigate the way in which four-wave mixing in a waveguide is affected by chromatic dispersion. The frequency dependence of the associated phase-conjugate mirror reflectivity turns out not to be influenced by chromatic dispersion itself.

Interference pattern produced on reflection at a phase-conjugate mirror II: Experiment

Arturo A. Jacobs, Wayne R. Tompkin, Robert W. Boyd +1 more

The nature of the fringe pattern produced by interference between a wave incident upon a phase-conjugate mirror and that leaving the mirror has been studied experimentally for a phase-conjugate mirror based on degenerate four-wave mixing. The fringe locations are found to depend on the phase of the wave incident upon the mirror, in agreement with recent theoretical predictions but in contrast to the results observed for the interference pattern produced on reflection at an ordinary metal mirror. The phases of the waves that pump the phase-conjugate mirror are shown to provide the reference with respect to which the phase of the incident wave is determined.

Investigation of retroreflection scheme for optical phase conjugation by degenerate four-wave mixing

Solomon M. Saltiel, B. Van Wonterghem, Tracy E. Dutton +2 more

The authors present theoretical and experimental data which show that the value of the phase conjugate reflectivity of degenerate four-wave mixing depends on whether the retroreflection or counterpropagating schemes are used. It is also shown that the retroflection method may result in decay constants which are not related to the decay of the gratings formed in the nonlinear medium.>

Phase conjugation under four-wave mixing on resonant and thermal nonlinearities at relatively high reflection coefficients

A. A. Akimov, Valery V. Ivakhnik, В. И. Никонов

The dependences of the reflection (transmission) coefficients and the half-width of the spatial frequency band on the pump-wave intensity are obtained for an object (signal) wave in degenerate and quasi-degenerate four-wave mixers on resonant and thermal nonlinearities. The effect of the difference of the pump-wave frequencies on the phase-conjugation quality is studied at relatively high reflection coefficients.
