Abstract

The dependences of the reflection (transmission) coefficients and the half-width of the spatial frequency band on the pump-wave intensity are obtained for an object (signal) wave in degenerate and quasi-degenerate four-wave mixers on resonant and thermal nonlinearities. The effect of the difference of the pump-wave frequencies on the phase-conjugation quality is studied at relatively high reflection coefficients.

Four-wave mixing on thermal nonlinearity with feedback for signal or object waves

Александр Александрович Акимов, Salavat A. Guzairov, Valery V. Ivakhnik

The coincidence of the amplitude reflection coefficients, half-widths of the spatial frequencies bands of a four-wave radiation converter on thermal nonlinearity with feedback for signal or object waves has been shown at equal pump waves intensity. The dependence of the amplitude reflection coefficient, spatial selectivity of the four-wave radiation converter on thermal nonlinearity on the pump waves intensity has been analyzed. An increase in the half-width of the spatial frequency band is observed with an increase in the pump waves intensity at the compensation for the phase shift arising as a result of the propagation of the pump waves in the medium. There is a threshold value of the pump waves intensity, above which the value of the amplitude reflection coefficient of the four-wave converter with feedback for signal or object waves, is less than in the absence of feedback.

Phase Conjugation By Resonantly Enhanced Degenerate Four-Wave Mixing

The use of resonantly enhanced four-wave mixing to generate high reflectivity phase-conjugate waves is discussed. A physical understanding of the mechanisms underlying the nonlinear response for a simple two-level system is presented followed by a discussion of the complicating effects of pump absorption, pump depletion, unbalanced pumps, and thermal motion. Modifications of the theory to describe four-level behavior are presented and compared with experiments. The application of nearly degenerate four-wave mixing to narrow-band filtering complicated by the A. C. Stark effect is dis-cussed along with examples of experimental observations.

Пространственная селективность квазивырожденного четырехволнового преобразователя на резонансной и тепловой нелинейностях при больших коэффициентах отражения

Акимов Александр Александрович, Ивахник Валерий Владимирович, В. И. Никонов

The dependences of reflectance (transmittance) and spatial frequencies half*width of object (signal) wave have been obtained in dependence of pumping waves intensity for the nondegenerate four*wave converter on resonant and thermal nonlinearities at various rations between pumping waves frequencies. The influence of difference between the frequencies of pump waves on a quality of wave*front reversal has been investigated at large reflectance.

Four-wave interaction with allowance for thermal and resonant nonlinearities at large reflectance

А. А. Akimov, А. А. Akimov, Ekaterina Vorobeva +3 more

The dependence of the amplitude and spatial characteristics of the four-wave converter on thermal and resonant nonlinearities from pumping waves intensity has been analyzed. It was shown, that growth of a reflectance degrades a quality of the wave-front reversal. It was established, that behavior of the amplitude and spatial characteristics of object and signal waves match in dependence of pumping waves intensity at large reflectance.

Four-wave mixing on thermal nonlinearity in a scheme with positive feedback

Aleksandr Akimov, Salavat A. Guzairov, Valery V. Ivakhnik

The influence of feedback for both signal and object waves on the amplitude reflection coefficient of a four-wave radiation converter on thermal nonlinearity has been considered. The dependences of the reflection coefficient of a four-wave converter on the parameters of a ring-type resonator, which provides the feedback, and the pump intensity have been obtained and analyzed. It was shown that the use of a ring-type resonator allows one to increase the reflection coefficient of a four-wave radiation converter on thermal nonlinearity by several times.

Theory of phase conjugation by degenerate four-wave mixing using spatially varying pump beams

Erik J. Bochove

Phase-conjugate beam fidelity is studied in degenerate four-wave mixing with spatially varying pump beams. The theory includes long-cell-length (or high-gain) effects, diffraction, and nonlinear phase variation, focusing of the probe beam, and, finally, losses. Relatively simple algebraic expressions for the reflectivity are given that cover the cases of collinear or near-collinear beam geometries. An easily calculated parameter is defined that characterizes phase-conjugate fidelity and is applied to study focusing effects. It is shown that focusing effects may be useful in greatly reducing the principal distortion of the phase-conjugate beam over a considerable range of variation of beam parameters.
