Abstract

A new technique of an entangled photon pair generation using an all fiber optic scheme is presented. The proposed system is consisted of a fiber optic Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) incorporating with a fiber optic ring resonator. The Kerr nonlinearity effect in the fiber ring resonator is exploited for the generation of two independent squeezed beams. The advantage of such a system is that it requires a simple arrangement without any optical pumping part and bulky optical components. Polarized light pulse trains are launched randomly into a MZI which one part of them is delayed in the longer path. The output pulses from both arms of the MZI are entered into a nonlinear fiber optic ring resonator. Where the superpositions of light pulses in a nonlinear fiber optics ring resonator are randomly occurred which is formed the entangled photon pairs. A polarization controller controls polarization states of light pulses while circulating in the ring resonator. The entangled photons are seen on the avalanche photo-detector, which is shown in good agreement with the previous works.

The entangled photon regeneration and characterization in a nonlinear fiber ring resonator incorporating an erbium-doped fiber

W. Khunnam, Preecha P. Yupapin

A new scheme of the entangled photon states re-generation the dynamic simulation of light traveling in nonlinear fiber optic ring resonator incorporating an erbium-doped fiber (EDF) has been investigated. We have shown that the weak entangled photon states can be recovered after circulating in the amplified fiber optic medium. The output entangled photon states can be re-generated by adjusting the polarization controller of the amplified photons, where the re-generated entangled states can be controlled and performed. The ring-cavity lifetime is much longer than the Kerr-effect response time of the fiber ring. The results obtained have shown that this system can be used to achieve the recovered polarization entangled states with the obtained high gain. The amplifying noise has also been detected and seen on the spectrum output. This is affected to the entangled photon visibility, which is discussed.

Quantum information investigation using photons trapped in a fiber optic ring resonator

Poramet Chunpang, Chatchawal Sripakdee, Preecha P. Yupapin

Photons source generated by light pulses tapping in a fiber optic rinvg resonator is presented. Light pulses from OTDR were launched into a single mode fiber optic, which was a form of a ring resonator. All fiber optic components were connected and used to realize the practical in quantum information via fiber optic. Light pulses were trapped in the ring resonator in a period of time, i.e. memor time, before the S/N ratio of the detected signal was not valid. Results obtained have shown that number of pulse/phton trains obtained depend on a fiber optic ring resonator length, input pulse width and gain. In applications, the signal amplifier using inline connection with fiber laser could be used to amaintain the required S/N. The attenuation part could be employed into the system to produce a single photon pulse during the circulation in fiber optic ring resonator. The photon visibility in term of polarization extinction ratio of 10 dB is noted.

Entangled Photon Generation in a Nonlinear Micro Ring Resonator for Quantum Key Distribution Use

Chatchawal Sripakdee, K. Sarpat, W. Suwancharoen +1 more

In analysis of a new technique for quantum key distribution using the entangled photon within a micro ring resonator is presented. The Kerr nonlinear effects type of light circulates in the micro ring resonator is induced into the device. The superposition i.e. four-wave mixing of the propagating waves at resonance is occurred, where the entangled photon is generated. The possible two entangle pairs is described and discussed. The proposed system has shown the potential of using in the realistic system, where such a device scale can be fabricated and performed within the mobile telephone hand set, which means the use of quantum telephone will be realized in the near future.

All-optical polarization scrambler based on polarization beam splitting with an amplified fiber ring

Yuanjie Yu, Shiyun Dai, Qiang Wu +6 more

Optical-fiber-based polarization scramblers can reduce the impact of polarization sensitive performance of various optical fiber systems. Here, we propose a simple and efficient polarization scrambler based on an all-optical Mach-Zehnder structure by combining a polarization beam splitter and an amplified fiber ring. To totally decoherence one polarization split beam, a fiber ring together with an amplifier is incorporated. The ratio of two orthogonal beams can be controlled by varying the amplification factor, and we observe different evolution trajectories of the output state of polarizations on the Poincaré sphere. When the amplification factor exceeds a certain threshold, the scrambler system exhibits nearly ideal polarization scrambling behavior. A commercial single wavelength laser with a linewidth of 3 MHz is utilized to characterize the scrambling performance. We found that when the sampling rate is 1.6 MSa/s, a scrambling speed up to 2000krad/s can be obtained for the average degree of polarization being less than 0.1. We also exploit these random polarization fluctuations to generate random binary numbers, indicating that the proposed technique is a good candidate for a random bit generator.

Polarization entangled photon pair generation in optical fibers with birefringence

Wei Zhang, Qiang Zhou, Pengxiang Wang +2 more

Spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM) in optical fibers is an important way to generate correlated/entangled photon pairs. When the pulsed pump light passes through the optical fiber, two kinds of SFWM will take place simultaneously. One is scalar scattering processes, in which two annihilated pump photons and generated photon pair are all polarized along the same fiber polarization axis. The other is vector scattering processes, in which two annihilated pump photons are polarized along different fiber polarization axes, either to the two photons of the generated pair. If the fiber has large group birefringence, the intensity of vector scattering processes will be suppressed at the phase matching frequencies of the scalar scattering processes. On the other hand, the walk-off effect of the pump pulse components polarized along the two fiber polarization axes also suppresses the vector scattering processes. Hence, by proper pump polarization and signal/idle frequency selection, photon pairs can be generated only by the two independent scalar scattering processes in optical fibers with birefringence, which provide a simple way to realize polarization entangled photon pair generation. In this paper, related experiments based on the high nonlinearity microstructure fiber (HN-MSF) with group birefringence and polarization maintained dispersion shifted fiber (PM-DSF) are introduced, showing their potential on developing practical quantum light sources.
