Abstract

We mainly investigate four generated four-wave-mixing (FWM) signals, and second- and fourth-order fluorescence (FL) signals, simultaneously in a cascade three-level atomic system of sodium, in which dual electromagnetically induced transparency windows are used to enable transparency of the generated FWM signals. The moving and immobile two-photon dressing effects on the FWM and multi-order FL signals as well as the interaction of dressing effects are studied. Furthermore, we investigate the spontaneous parametric FWM signal and spatial images of the transmitted probe signal modulated by the cross-Kerr nonlinearities effect of the dressing field both experimentally and theoretically. The study may find applications in all-optical communication.

Spatial Four Wave Mixing, Probe Images, and Fluorescence Signals in Dressed Three-Level System

Huayan Lan, Jia Sun, Zhenkun Wu +4 more

We investigate the spatial images of the probe, generated four wave mixing (FWM) signal and the accompanying fluorescence spectrum signal simultaneously in FWM process in a cascade three-level atomic system for the first time. We experimentally observe and theoretically investigate the three spectrum signals versus the probe field as well as the dressing field frequency detunings. Utilizing the experimental results of spectrum signals, the cross phase modulation and the relative position between the weak and strong beams, we analyze the characteristics indicated in the spatial images of probe transmission and FWM, such as focusing or defocusing, shift and splitting in detail. Such studies can be used in all-optical controlled spatial signal transmission.

Comparison of Ultranarrow Fluorescence and Four-Wave Mixing in Electromagnetically Induced Transparency Windows

Zhiguo Wang, Peiying Li, Zhaoyang Zhang +4 more

We simultaneously observe the probe transmission, four-wave mixing (FWM) and fluorescence signals under dressing effects in a four-level -type atomic system for the first time. The physical mechanisms of three types of signals are explored by changing the frequency detuning and power of incident laser beams. Especially, the ultranarrow fluorescence signals have been experimentally obtained due to twice shearing by electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) window, which are much narrower than the Doppler-free EIT window. Such ultranarrow fluorescence signals with very high coherence and monochromaticity have potential applications in the quantum correlation and narrow linewidth laser. Studying the FWM processes can find applications in optical switch and optical communication.

Fluorescence and Four-Wave Mixing in Electromagnetically Induced Transparency Windows

Zhiguo Wang, Cheng Li, Zhaoyang Zhang +4 more

We simultaneously compare the probe transmission, Four-Wave Mixing (FWM) and fluorescence signals with dressing effects in a four-level atomic system. The variation rules of three types of signals are exhibited by changing the frequency detuning and power of incident laser beams. The interplay between two ladder subsystems is investigated in the Y-type atomic system. In particular, the fluorescence signal with ultra-narrow linewidth is obtained due to being sheared twice by the electromagnetically induced transparency window. Such fluorescence with very high coherence and monochromaticity can be used for the quantum correlation and narrow linewidth laser.

Controllable Four-Wave Mixing Signal inside a Cascade Three-Level Atomic System

Yun Zhe Zhang, Li Bo Fa, Hui Peng Gao +4 more

We experimentally report that electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in the nonlinear propagation of probe beam, four-wave mixing (FWM) images and in a cascade three-level atomic systems. It is shown that by changing the frequency between pumping fields or dressing fields, respectively, the properties of the measured signals including the intensity and spatial images are affected greatly, including the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT), Aulter-Townes splitting. By changing the laser frequency we can control the four wave signal, Moreover, the AT splitting effect due to spontaneous emission was also observed under EIT conditions..

Multidressing interaction of four-wave mixing image in three-level atomic system

Suling Sang, Huaibin Zheng, Zhiguo Wang +5 more

We demonstrate different dressed processes of four-wave mixing (FWM), as changing the powers of the probe, pump, and dressing fields, respectively, in ladder-type three-level system. It is demonstrated that scanning detuning of the dressing field can lead to the direct detection of the dressing effects and the interaction between the dressing fields, compared with scanning that of the probe field. Moreover, by respectively controlling the powers of the dressing, pump, and probe fields, the enhancement and suppression of FWM signals can be switched sensitively. Meanwhile, the spatial splitting in y direction of FWM signal due to the cross-phase modulation and electromagnetically induced gratings is observed, respectively. Such nonlinear signal with switchable enhancement has potential applications in optical switching, optical communication, and quantum information processing.

Observation of Angle Switching of Dressed Four-Wave Mixing Image

Suling Sang, Zhenkun Wu, Jia Sun +4 more

We experimentally report that angle-control dynamics in the nonlinear propagation of the images of the probe, generated four-wave mixing (FWM) and fluorescence signals beams in FWM process in a cascade three-level, as well as a two-level atomic systems. It is shown that, by changing the angles between pumping fields and dressing fields, respectively, the characteristics of the measured signals including the spectra intensity and spatial images can be controlled to display many effects, including the electromagnetically induced transparency and absorption (EIT and EIA, respectively) and Autler-Townes splitting. In particular, we demonstrate the angle-controlled switching from EIA to EIT in probe transmission or from enhancement to suppression in FWM signal. Additionally, we also illustrate the interaction between spatial characteristics and spectra intensities of weak fields. The studies can be very useful in producing all optical-signal-processing devices, such as spatial beam splitters, routers, and switches.
