Abstract

To improve the image quality of the decrypted image through the double-random phase-encoding optical encryption, the design method of the input phase mask is proposed. The input phase mask is iteratively designed so that the extent of the Fourier spectrum of the product of an input image and the input phase mask matches to the space bandwidth of the optical system. By using the designed input phase mask, we show that the bit-error rate is improved. We also discuss the number of the phase levels of the designed input phase mask.

Optical encryption system that uses phase conjugation in a photorefractive crystal

Unnikrishnan Gopinathan, Joby Joseph, K. Singh

We implement an optical encryption system based on double-random phase encoding of the data at the input and the Fourier planes. In our method we decrypt the image by generating a conjugate of the encrypted image through phase conjugation in a photorefractive crystal. The use of phase conjugation results in near-diffraction-limited imaging. Also, the key that is used during encryption can also be used for decrypting the data, thereby alleviating the need for using a conjugate of the key. The effect of a finite space-bandwidth product of the random phase mask on the encryption system's performance is discussed. A theoretical analysis is given of the sensitivity of the system to misalignment errors of a Fourier plane random phase mask.

Shift-tolerance property of an optical double-random phase-encoding encryption system

We investigate the shift-tolerance property of the decrypting phase mask in an optical double-random phase-encoding encryption system. A simple method for improving the shift tolerance of the phase mask is proposed. We demonstrate how the robustness to data loss of the encrypted image extends the shift tolerance of the decrypting phase mask. The signal-to-noise ratio is calculated. Both a computer simulation and an experiment are presented.

Improvement of the shift tolerance in the double random phase encoding encryption system

Bor Wang, Ching‐Cherng Sun, Wei‐Chia Su

Double random phase encoding technique is a valuable and effective method for optical image encryption. However, a precise alignment is required when optical setup is performed. In this paper, we investigate the shift tolerance property of the technique. The theory of the robustness to data loss of the encrypted image is proposed. According to the theory, we propose a simple and novel method to improve the shift tolerance of the decrypting phase mask. Both theory and computer simulation are presented.

An optical image encryption method based on Fourier single-pixel imaging and phase retrieval algorithm

Tianyu ZENG, Liansheng Sui, Cong Du +2 more

An optical image encryption method is proposed based on Fourier single-pixel imaging and iterated phase retrieval algorithm. First, a binary barcode image containing two groups of horizontal strips is randomly generated and used as the target image in the single-pixel imaging process. Second, considering the barcode image as the amplitude constraint, the original plaintext image is encoded to two phase-only masks using a designed phase retrieval algorithm in Fresnel domain, and these masks are applied as secret keys. Finally, the barcode image is encrypted to a series of measurements using two-step phase shift Fourier single-pixel imaging as the ciphertext. Differing other methods, the original image is not directly imaged and encoded into the ciphertext. Even the ciphertext is obtained by a cracker, only the barcode image may be further discovered. Due to two phase-only masks as secret keys, the security level of the cryptosystem can be enhanced greatly. The simulated results verify the feasibility of the proposed method, and this work provides an effective alternative for the related research.
