Abstract

We shall show how the so-called Berry's or quantum nonintegrable phase appears in the context of the time-dependent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov equations. It is shown that the right requantization of the time-dependent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov equations is achieved only when Berry's phase is properly taken into account.

On the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov equations

Volker Bach, Sébastien Breteaux, Thomas Chen +2 more

We review some results of our paper arXiv:1602.05171v2 on the "nonlinear quasifree approximation" to the many-body Schrödinger dynamics of Bose gases. In that paper, we derive, with the help of this approximation, the time-dependent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) equations, providing an approximate description of the dynamics of quantum fluctuations around a Bose-Einstein condensate and study properties of these equations.

Quantum phase diffusion of a Bose system: beyond the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approximation

FERDINANDO DE PASQUALE, Gian Luca Giorgi

A diffusion process is usually assumed for the phase of the order parameter of a Bose system of finite size. The theoretical basis is limited to the so called Bogoliubov approximation. We show that a suitable generalization of the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approach recovers phase diffusion.

The time-dependent Hartree–Fock–Bogoliubov equations for Bosons

Volker Bach, Sébastien Breteaux, Thomas Chen +2 more

Abstract We introduce the map of dynamics of quantum Bose gases into dynamics of quasifree states, which we call the “nonlinear quasifree approximation”. We use this map to derive the time-dependent Hartree–Fock–Bogoliubov (HFB) equations describing the dynamics of quantum fluctuations around a Bose–Einstein condensate. We prove global well-posedness of the HFB equations for pair potentials satisfying suitable regularity conditions, and we establish important conservation laws. We show that the space of solutions of the HFB equations has a symplectic structure reminiscent of a Hamiltonian system. This is then used to relate the HFB equations to the HFB eigenvalue equations discussed in the physics literature. We also construct Gibbs equilibrium states at positive temperature associated with the HFB equations, and we establish criteria for the appearance of Bose–Einstein condensation.

Time-Dependent Hartree–Fock Approximation and Mean-Field Decoupling

Giancarlo Calvanese Strinati

Mean-field decouplings can also be utilized in time-dependent (nonequilibrium) situations. This chapter considers the time-dependent Hartree–Fock approximation for fermions in the normal phase, as obtained in terms of a time-dependent mean-field decoupling (postponing to Part II the Gor’kov generalization to the superfluid phase). A connection is also established with a more standard formulation of the time-dependent Hartree–Fock approximation in terms of a set of time-dependent single-particle wave functions.

A canonical quantization method for the time-dependent Hartree-Fock equation is presented with the use of the generalized Hamiltonian method by Dirac. It is shown that in the Lipkin model our quantized Hamiltonian reproduces the original one approximately.

Extended Time-Dependent Hartree-Fock Approximation with Particle Collisions

Cheuk-Yin Wong, Henry H. K. Tang

We formulate an extended time-dependent Hartree-Fock approximation which includes particle collisions. As the configuration-space analog of the quantum Boltzmann equation, it can be utilized to study the dynamics of nuclear or other fermion systems when irreversible dissipation is present.
