The short-range, one-band model for electron correlations in a narrow energy band is solved exactly in the one-dimensional case. The ground-state energy, wave function, and the chemical potentials are obtained, and it is found that the ground state exhibits no conductor-insulator transition as the correlation strength is increased.
The ground-state wave function for the electrons in a narrow s band is investigated for arbitrary density of electrons and arbitrary strength of interaction. An approximation is proposed which limits all the calculations to counting certain types of configurations and attaching the proper weights. The expectation values of the one-particle and two-particle density matrix are computed for the ferromagnetic and for the non-ferromagnetic case. The ground-state energy is obtained under the assumption that only the intra-atomic Coulomb interaction is of importance. Ferromagnetism is found to occur if the density of states is large at the band edges rather than in the center, and if the intra-atomic Coulomb repulsion is sufficiently strong. The relation of this approximation to certain exact results for one-dimensional models is discussed.
We present a two band fermion model consisting of a subband of conduction electrons and a subband of local electron pairs interacting via interband interactions. The model is solved in one dimension by means of the Bethe ansatz for an empty subband of local electron pairs. The ground state energy, the chemical potential, the critical exponents, describing the asymptotic behavior of correlation functions at long distances, the effective electron transport mass have been calculated numerically for an arbitrary density of conduction electrons.
Electron correlation is studied in the special case of a single reversed spin in an otherwise fully aligned band in the one-dimensional Hubbard model for the purpose of examining our previous theory which exactly takes account of the three-body correlation. The importance of the three-body correlation is demonstrated through a comparison of our results with those of exact theories. The ground-state energy and the single particle spectra are in good agreement with McGuire-Lieb-Wu's exact solution and also with exact numerical solutions for finite size systems over a wide range of the intraatomic Coulomb integral and the electron number. The properties of the ground state are studied in detail through the calculation of pair correlation functions.
The exact phase diagrams of the one-dimensional Hubbard model, both attractive and repulsive, in the presence of an arbitrary magnetic field h for various electron concentrations n and on-site interaction strengths U <0 or U >0 are calculated and investigated. The exact ground-state properties, namely, the ground-state energy, the average spin (magnetization), the concentration of the doubly occupied sites, the kinetic energy, the chemical potential, the spin (magnetic) susceptibility and the charge compressibility, are calculated and examined over a wide range of interaction strengths U for various h and n . It is found that the spin susceptibility at half-filling is non-analytic and changes discontinuously as U →0. The exact theory shows the absence of a charge energy gap in the U ⩽0 region for all n and provides, for the chemical potential, the rigorous upper and lower bounds for half-filled and empty bands respectively. The analytical results derived for the weak-coupling limit and asymptotic expansions for strong coupling are in full agreement with the numerical calculations.
