Abstract

This paper demonstrates dual-frequency phase conjugation waves via the high-order nonlinear effect by nondegenerate six-wave mixing in iron-doped lithium niobate. In the experiment, two conjugation waves of different frequency are generated. Conjugation wave 1 is similar to nondegenerate four-wave mixing; conjugation wave 2 is completely different. The experiments measure the relationships between two conjugation wave intensities and parameters, respectively, and compare the differences of the two conjugation waves. To explain the experimental results, we assume that there is a fifth-order nonlinear interaction in crystal, and we believe the two conjugation waves are generated via different level nonlinear interactions. The theory agrees with the experimental results.

Forward Phase Conjugation Wave due to Multi-wave Coupling and Grating Share in Lithium Niobate Crystal

Qiao Hai-Jun, Jingjun Xu, Zhang Xin-Zheng +4 more

The steady intensity of a forward phase conjugate wave (FPCW) is successfully observed along the c-axis in the highly magnesium-doped lithium niobate crystal. We put forward a detailed physical picture for our experiment phenomena. The FPCW is generated from the phase-mismatch in a three-wave coupling process, and tends to be stable accompanied with the building of photorefractive gratings and four-wave coupling processes. Our experimental result is also discussed and analysed by means of the wave coupling theory, and the theoretical expression is provided for the experiment.

Phase conjugation of vector fields by degenerate four-wave mixing in a Fe-doped LiNbO_3

Sheng-Xia Qian, Yongnan Li, Ling‐Jun Kong +2 more

We propose a method to generate the phase-conjugate wave of the vector field by degenerate four-wave mixing in a c-cut Fe-doped LiNbO3 crystal. We demonstrate experimentally that the phase-conjugate wave of the vector field can be generated. In particular, the phase-conjugate vector field has also the peculiar function of compensating the polarization distortion, as the traditional phase-conjugate scaler field can compensate the phase distortion.

Nonlinear dispersion of backward-wave four-wave mixing in a photorefractive semiconductor and its effect on group velocity

Konstantin Shcherbin, P. Mathey, Alexander N. Shumelyuk +1 more

Photorefractive backward-wave four-wave mixing may be configured for the amplification of the phase conjugate output and the attenuation of the transmitted output. The nondegenerate-in-frequency interaction is studied in such a configuration, realized in a semiconductor CdTe crystal. The spectra measured at different outputs show the gain and attenuation resonances. The preliminary study of optical pulse propagation demonstrates that, due to different nonlinear dispersions at different outputs of the selected wave mixing configuration, a slowing down of light is observed at the phase conjugate output, while an acceleration of light is detected at the transmitted output for the same input pulse at the same interaction.

Stationary Photorefractive Self-Pump Phase-Conjugation with Stimulated Backward Scattering in LiNbO 3 :Fe Crystals

Jingjun Xu, Xin-zheng Zhang, Qian Sun +4 more

Stationary photorefractive self-pumped phase-conjugation with one four-wave-mixing interaction region, stimulated by the photorefractive amplified backward scattering, is obtained in LiNbO 3 :Fe crystals, in which the strong backward scattered light is gotten by putting a scattering particle on the backface of the sample. Even though its reflectivities are not high (its temporal and stationary reflectivities are 10% and 3%, respectively), due to the low electrooptic coefficients of LiNbO 3 :Fe crystals, our experimental results prove that this mechanism is effective and simple comparing with the "cat" self-pumped phase-conjugator.

Experimental study of the forward phase-conjugate wave in degenerate four-wave mixing in LiNbO3:Fe

Sing Hai Tang, Xue Hua He, Heyi Zhang

Both backward and forward phase conjugate waves have been observed indegenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) in a LiNbO 3 :Fe crystalline slab. Investigation shows that the observed forward phase conjugate wave consists of two main contributions. The dominant contribution is the phase conjugate wave of the reflected signal beam. The other contribution arises from the reflection of backward phase conjugate wave at the front surface of the crystal. The intensity of the forward phase conjugate wave is comparable with that of the backward phase conjugate wave.

Self-oscillation in a photorefractive phase-conjugate mirror with linear absorption II Anisotropic four-wave mixing

Nitin C. Kothari

The effects of linear absorption on the degenerate and nondegenerate self-oscillation of a photorefractive phase-conjugate mirror under condition of anisotropic four-wave mixing are considered. The phase conjugation results from nonlinear mixing of two strong undepleted orthogonally polarized counterpropagating pump waves with a probe wave. We consider two types of situation for orthogonally polarized pump beams corresponding to two crystal families: one such as the Bi12SiO20 crystal family (sillenite family) and the other such as the BaTiO3 and strontium barium niobate crystal family. In both of these crystal families the degenerate and nondegenerate self-oscillations are shown to occur in the presence of linear absorption, which tends to increase the value of the coupling coefficient required for self-oscillation. Numerical results are presented that exhibit various features of degenerate and nondegenerate self-oscillation in both crystal families for different values of the phase ϕb of the backward grating.
