CW laser pumping of the 4s21S0-4s4p3P1transition of calcium: study of ionization and absorption line profiles

Muhammad Arshad Khan, Mohammad F. Al-Kuhaili

Experimental results on the ionization of calcium atoms following resonant pumping of the 4s 2 1 S 0 -4s4p 3 P 1 transition with a CW ring dye laser are reported. Absorption profiles of the 4s 2 1 S 0 -4s4p 3 P 1 transition around 6572.78 AA are measured under different conditions of temperature (T) and buffer gas pressure (p) where ionization was observed. Voigt profile fits are seen to adequately describe the observed absorption profiles. The results on collisional widths are in agreement with some previously published measurements. At low buffer gas pressures, collisional widths are found to scale as T 0.5 .

Two-Photon Doppler Cooling of Calcium Atoms

Wictor C. Magno, Reinaldo L. Cavasso Filho, Flávio C. Cruz

A new possibility of laser cooling of Calcium atoms using a two-photon transition is analyzed We investigate the possibility of Doppler cooling of Calcium using its two-photon (4s 2 ) 1 S0 - (4s5s) 1 S0 transition, with excitation in near resonance with the (4s4p) 1 P1 level. The two-photon absorption of l aser beams at 423 and 1 034 nm greatly increases the two-photon rate, allowing an effective transfer of momentum. The ex perimental i mplementation o f t his technique is discussed a nd we show that two-photon cooling can be used to achieve a temperature limit of about 1/7 of the onephoton Doppler limit reached in a conventional MOT.

Theoretical Analysis of a Possible Method to Quantum Communication of Exceed Velocity of Light

Jue Wang

If the projection of two photon entangled state in two orthogonal state basis are not equal, the direction of observation of one photon would have influence on the probability distribution of the polarization state of the other photon, which affects the statistical results of a large number of photons. non-local communication can be realized with this method. To get these type of two photon entangled state, this paper designs a method: put the calcium atoms in strong magnetic field.According to the Zeeman effect, calcium atoms would have energy level splitting. Then if the angle between the direction of observation and magnetic field is acute angle, the π light of the calcium atoms’ cascade radiation from 4p2 1S0→4s4p 1P1→4s1 1S0 would meet the requirement. Thus we demonstrate the method of non fixed domain transfer information is feasible.
