Abstract

We developed a scheme to prepare photon pairs in polarization-spatial-mode entangled states. This entailed sending polarization-entangled states to a polarization interferometer where diffractive-optical elements encode spatial modes onto the light.

Preparing photon pairs entangled in any desired spatial modes via interference

Enrique J. Galvez

This article presents a proposal for producing photon pairs in states that are entangled in their spatial modes. The method sends collinear pairs of photons to an unbalanced interferometer with diffractive optical elements, and uses coherence and timing discrimination to create entangled states.

Proposal to produce two and four qubits with spatial modes of two photons

Enrique J. Galvez

This article presents a proposal for preparing photon pairs in states that are entangled in their spatial modes. The method allows the encoding of any pair of spatial modes that is desired, without restrictions; a procedure that up to now has been elusive. This method consists of three steps: preparing photon pairs in polarization-entangled states, filtering the spatial mode, and use of polarization interferometers with diffractive mode-encoding elements to effect entanglement swapping between polarization and spatial modes. An extension of the method consists of entangling polarization and spatial mode, allowing the preparation of a 4-qubit cluster state of two photons.

Observation of quantum entanglement using spatial light modulators

Eric Yao, Sonja Franke‐Arnold, Johannes Courtial +2 more

We use spatial light modulators to observe the quantum entanglement of down-converted photon pairs. Acting as diffractive optical elements within one of the beams, they can be reconfigured in real time to set the spatial profile of the measured mode. Such configurations are highly applicable to the measurement of orbital angular momentum states or other spatial modes, such as those associated with quantum imaging.

Polarization Entanglement Converted from Spatially Correlated Photon Pairs

Ryōsuke Shimizu, T. Yamaguchi, Yasuyoshi Mitsumori +2 more

We propose and demonstrate a novel scheme for the generation of polarization entanglement from spatially correlated photon pairs generated by parametric down-conversion. Using the state, we also demonstrate the violation of Bell's inequality.

Four-Photon Polarization-Entangled States with Minimal Spectral and Spatial Entanglement

J. Schaake, Warren P. Grice, Duncan Earl

We present a scheme for the direct generation of four-photon states using photon pairs having minimal spectral and spatial entanglement. The method does not require polarization-entangled pairs, and can be generalized to larger states.

Entanglement concentration of individual photon pairs via linear optical logic

Chuanwei Zhang

We propose a scheme for concentrating nonmaximally pure and mixed polarization-entangled state of individual photon pairs. The scheme uses only simple linear optical elements and may be feasible within current optical technology.
