Abstract

An experimental study was made of the conditions for the appearance of negative images, formed using the green (510.5 nm) and yellow (578.2 nm) lines of the copper atom, in a laser projection microscope and in an oscillator–amplifier system. The energy and spatial characteristics of the negative images were investigated. It was found that quite sharp negative images were obtained when the plane of an intermediate image was located within the active medium. A rise in the intensity of the light beams carrying negative images was discovered on introduction of a diffuse scatterer into the system.

Conditions for the appearance of a negative image in an optical signal amplifier

Tatiana I. Kuznetsova, D. Yu. Kuznetsov

A study is made of the characteristics of wavefront reversal in a resonantly amplifying medium. The region of the effective interaction between waves is of finite size and the phase relationships between the constant and alternating components of the resultant signal influence the signal increment.

Brightness amplifiers with PRF up to 100 kHz

Maxim V. Trigub, Dmitrii V. Shiyanov, Vasilii V. Vlasov

In this paper the design of high speed brightness amplifiers on transitions of copper and manganese atoms is discussed. A possibility of obtaining images in active optical systems with a brightness amplifier operating at 100 kHz frequency is demonstrated. The results of comparing the images obtained using brightness amplifiers on copper bromide and manganese bromide vapors are given.

Spectral composition of stimulated radiation from a pulsed copper vapor laser

Anatoly A. Isaev

An investigation was made of the spectral composition of the spontaneous radiation, superradiance, and laser radiation emitted by a pulsed copper vapor laser. The time resolution was about 3 nsec. It was found that the observed spectral structure of the laser radiation and superradiance was governed by the hyperfine and isotopic splitting of the active levels of the copper atom. In the absence of saturation of the active medium a narrowing of the spectral line profiles was observed during a superradiance pulse. When saturation was achieved for superradiance and lasing, the line profiles broadened to the width of the spontaneous emission line during a radiation pulse. It was found that the temperature of the gas in the copper vapor laser did not exceed 2500°K.

Imaging systems based on active optical signal converters

Maxim V. Trigub, Dmitriy V. Shiyanov, Nikolay A. Vasnev +1 more

The use of metal atom active media allows to convert optical signals with the transferring of the adjusted contrast. Due to the opportunities of metal vapor active media it makes possible to increase the intensity of the signal in the narrow spectral range. As a result, the signal-to-noise ratio can be dramatically increased. It makes possible to build active optical systems for high speed imaging of processes which are hidden by high intensive radiation. In the systems is available the image active filtration due to induced transition on metal atoms. Active optical systems with metal vapor brightness amplifiers (which is called Laser monitor), have shown the high efficiency for reducing the background radiation effect on the observing processes in the real-time mode. Moreover, the use of different active media makes it possible to change the spectral contest of the input signal with the increasing of the intensity. In the work the result of the research such systems are presented. The method of transformation IR images to VIS images is discussed. The work presents the results of the using of different active optical systems for high speed imaging.

Dynamic holograms in amplifying medium

Е. В. Ивакин, I. P. Petrovich, Alexander S. Rubanov +1 more

An investigation was made of the formation of dynamic holograms in media with a negative absorption coefficient. Recording and/or reconstruction of a wave front under these conditions resulted in an increase of the intensity of the light fluxes. When feedback was sufficiently strong, a dynamic hologram (recorded in an excited system by spatial modulation of the gain) generated radiation with a specified spatial-temporal spectrum.

Investigation of the parameters of a fiber optical quantum image amplifier

V L Koval'chuk, V P Konarev, V N Lomakin +1 more

An experimental investigation was made of the resolution of a neodymium-activated glass fiber laser image amplifier and of the dependence of the signal/noise ratio at the amplifier output on the signal power at the input. The resolution in the active regime (in the presence of pumping) was not inferior to that in the passive regime (without pumping) and the signal/noise ratio (and, consequently, the contrast of the amplified image) improved, compared with the passive regime.
