Abstract

A multimode integrated optical bistable switch using a LiNbO(3) phase modulator in a noncavity configuration was constructed and tested. Bistability and discriminator operation were observed in this device using a He-Ne laser.

Review Of Integrated Bistable Optical Devices Construction

Tadeusz Maciak, Jerzy Kruszewski

Bistable optical devices have been suggested for a number of applications (switching, optical memory, binary logic, discrimination, amplifications, clipping, limiting and pulse shaping) in optical signal processing and communication system. Recently, several integrated optical bistable devices have been made available. Most of them have performed by using LiNb03 as electrooptical waveguide modulator. A review of integrated bistable devices based on waveguide optical modulators is presented under this paper.

Incoherent mirrorless bistable optical devices

A new class of bistable optical devices is described which do not require resonators or single-mode lasers. Optical bistability was demonstrated using a LiNbO3 electro-optic modulator and a multimode laser.

A optoelectronic hybrid integrated active optical bistable device

P Zhang

In this letter, we report a novel bistable optical device composed merely of a laser diode (or LED), two PIN photodetectors and several electronic components. The effect of hysterisis has been experimentally demonstrated. The operational modes of the device, such as optical memory, optical switching, optical pulse shaping have also been achieved. The operational principle, optoelectronic hybrid integrated, technique and characteristics of the present device are described.

Optical bistable device as electro-optical multivibrator

W. Sohler

A truly bistable device using an integrated optical cutoff modulator in LiNbO3 is reported. With appropriate optical input power, the device may be used as an electrical Schmitt trigger (electrical bistability). By electrical feedback, electro-optical multivibrator operation is demonstrated.

Optical Bistability And Switching By Non Inear Waveguiding In Semiconductor Lasers And Laser Amplifiers

Bistable optical devices (BODs) are interesting for optical switching, limiting, memory, signal conditioning and logic [1]. Semiconductor-based BODs are especially promising because their large nonlinearities should permit development of compact, rugged and efficient systems. Here we concentrate on active semiconductor BODs and switches, that is those which have internal gain, such as injection lasers and amplifiers.

Grating optical bistability

Ye H

In this paper, a grating optical bistable device is described. Changing the relative displacement between two symmetrical gratings, a periodic modulation of the light intensity is realized, Taking such a system as the transmission part and using He-Ne laser and white light, we have performed the optical bistable experiment. The experimental results are in good agreement with theoretical analyses.
