Quantum Laser Field Effect on the Photoelectron Spectrum for Auto-ionizing Systems

Abstract

We discuss an atomic system containing one auto-ionizing level and driven by an external laser field. We assume that the field is of quantum nature and two cases of its initial state are discussed: Fock state and coherent state. For this system long-time photoelectron spectra are found. Due to the quantum nature of the field the spectrum differs from quasi-classical. A novel kind of quantum interference phenomenon, which we refer to as ‘comb confluence of coherences’, occurs.

Effect of additional dc-field coupling on the long-time photoelectron spectrum from a system with double autoionizing levels

W. Leoński, R. Tanaś

The atomic model that contains two autoionization levels coupled to the discrete ground state by an external laser field is discussed. In addition both autoionizing levels are coupled mutually by the dc-electric-field gradient. The analytical formula for the long-time photoelectron spectrum is found for this system. Calculations are performed that are valid for any strength of the laser field and the dc-electric-field gradient. The effects of the additional coupling by the dc-electric-field gradient on the photoelectron spectrum are discussed and illustrated graphically.

Above-threshold Ionization Photoelectron Spectrum Induced by a Train of Ultra-short Laser Pulses

J. [Sgrave]wiatzlowski, W. Leoński

We discuss an atomic system comprising a single discrete, ground level and two orthogonal continua. We assume that the continua are structured m we discuss two cases: that of Lorentzian continua, and the case of Gaussian structures. Our system is irradiated by an external laser field in the form of a train of ultra-short pulses. The analytic formulas for long-time photoelectron spectra are found and discussed for various values of the parameters describing our system.

Photoelectron spectra in an autoionization system interacting with a neighboring atom

Jan Peřina, A. Lukš, W. Leoński +1 more

Photoelectron ionization spectra of an autoionization system with one discrete level interacting with a neighbor two-level atom are discussed. The formula for long-time ionization spectra is derived. According to this formula, the spectra can be composed of up to eight peaks. Moreover, the Fano-like zeros for weak optical pumping are identified in these spectra. The conditional ionization spectra depending on the state of the neighbor atom exhibit oscillations at the Rabi frequency. Dynamical spectral zeros occurring once per the Rabi period are revealed in these spectra.

Long-time joint spectra and entanglement of two photoelectrons originating in interacting auto-ionization systems

Jan Peřina, Antonín Lukš, W. Leoński

Abstract Two auto-ionization systems in a stationary optical field that are mutually interacting via the dipole–dipole interaction are considered. Their evolution is found analytically. Joint spectra of two ionized electrons are analyzed in detail in the long-time limit for comparable strengths of direct and indirect ionization paths as well as the dominating indirect ionization path. Entanglement in the state of two ionized electrons is quantified using the density of quadratic negativity. Suitable conditions for obtaining highly entangled states are discussed.

Photoelectron spectra as a probe of double-core resonsance in two-electron atoms

R. Grobe, Stanley L. Haan, Joseph H. Eberly

The authors calculate photoelectron spectra for a two-electron atom under the influence of two external driving fields, using an essential states formalism. They focus on the regime of so-called coherence transfer, in which electron-electron correlation transfers field-induced photo-coherence from one electron to the other. In the case studied here, two laser fields are resonant with coupled atomic transitions, in the manner familiar from three-level dark-state spectroscopy. Dynamical two electron effects are monitored via the photoelectron energy spectrum. The authors show that the distribution of the photoelectron energies can be singly, doubly or triply peaked depending on the relative laser intensities. The electron spectra are independent of the turn-on sequence of the fields.

Photoelectron spectra for an atom with one autoionizing level that interacts with a neighbor

A. Lukš, Vlasta Peřinová, Jan Peřina +2 more

We investigate two atoms coupled with a quantized field mode. Whereas one is the Jaynes-Cummings (JC) two-level atom, the other is an autoionizing system with two discrete levels and a continuum of states. In case interactions between the atoms do not occur, the periodic behavior of the JC atom contrasts with the autoionizing system. We ask whether or not a seesaw-like interaction between the atoms can change the behavior of the JC atom. We present photoelectron spectra dependent on the time for various initial states of the field mode.
